ed, ssn say Blackburn have a transfer embargo so can't replace outgoing players. so if we offered cash plus player would that be acceptable due to the embargo?

{Ed001's Note - that becomes difficult due to wages, even if you do have a player they want, that you don't want and that wants to join them. The embargo sets a limit on the replacement's wages. They have to be paid a percentage less than the player they are replacing. Sorry, I forget the actual amount. Though Rovers are very close to removing the embargo, the sale of Rhodes should clear them and so it probably won't be needed.}

what an frankly awful start the season - which begs the question - what are congerton and co going to do about it! You see people saying you can say anything or judge anyone after one game but all that game done was reliterate what we already new- that the quality from back to front is not of prem standard nor will it get better! Coates and kaboul are a partnership that will stake a claim in a team selected by someone who's primary aim is to. Concede goals! Van aanholt is a much better attacking option than Johnson but cannot defend to save his life! Jones is a honest player unfortunatly lacks prem class and quality - our defence will need gutting at the end of the season by the next poor sod who carries the burden of a big club with no support!

Continuing rumours about Rhodes and Januzaj, but signing a striker and another lightweight- albeit skillful- midfielder will not improve the organisation of a defence that parts like the Red Sea. We concede so many soft goals that even with Benteke and Costa in a front two we would struggle to win many games.
The fact is that the back four still needs radical surgery- minus Vergini plus Matthews and Kaboul does not begin to address the problem. We still have no pace-or speed of thought- at centre-back- and signing Coates only made sense if we were planning to pair him with a commanding and experienced partner to nurture his development- Curtis Davies might fit the bill. VA remains a liability when teams are free to run at us, as he does not yet have the positional sense or sufficient concentration to defend securely on the left. He is an asset going forward, but without a more mobile and secure central pairing and someone in midfield who can actually hold onto the ball when we win it his lack of positional sense will cost us.So we should still be be looking for a strong central defender and also a midfielder who is confident on the ball. Cattermole and Larsson are both too slow for the premier league and we have no-one who can retain possession and dictate play in the middle of the park. These are bigger priorities than another striker- though if Dick wanted to play a big man up front to partner Defoe in an 4 4 2 I have no idea why he sold Wickham rather than Fltetcher.
I guess no-one wants them, but we still seem to have at least half a dozen players who would not even get on the bench at Watford- and re-signing Brown was an incomprehensible decision given the number of makeweights we have in the squad.
Thanks for least year Dick, but you don't seem to have any better plan for the team than the previous incumbents; Your return began in tears and I think it will end in tears too!

Yup, the ladies team who are doing awesome, also there's this youth team we have that seems to do awesome year in year out too, shame we have this semi-pro almost amateur senior team that couldn't out play a team of 6 year olds.

Why is Advocaat only now realising that Defoe cannot play in a 3. I have been saying this since he was signed. To accommodate him they need to play 4-4-2. But to do this they need to strengthen the left defensive side. Rodwell used to be a top class defender - he should be able to play left sided midfield defence to cover for Van Anholt and Lens. M'vila getting sent off does not bode well for him in the Premier as he will be targeted when he gets into the team.Rhodes is not the answer at CF as he is a poacher like Defoe.

You have to question why some of the youngsters didn't even get a look in in preseason. If they aren't good enough then get rid of them otherwise can they really do no better than players who have failed for the past 3 seasons? I'm not saying put 3 or 4 in the first team together but one or two on the bench gives an option if things are going badly. On another note why didn't O'shea start. For me Kaboul looked overweight and displayed no composure at all. I suspect the weekend will be a watershed moment for the club. And a question for the readers. Is Kaboul better than Vergini? Personally I think not.

as if your targeting Kaboul. granted he wasn't perfect but Coates was shocking. Kaboul alongside Oshea should be the pairing next weekend. yes Kaboul is better than vergini. did you even watch the game? how can you criticise Kaboul and not even mention how bad Coates was or is it just bias?

O yes I watched the game and I suspect you were watching through the pair of rose tinted glasses you got last Christmas. If you think any of our central defenders are good enough I despair. Think back to the debacles at home last season at home when we were beaten by half time. Why on earth you or anyone think miraculously that we now have a solid central defensive unit God only knows. Other teams have moved on and made some good signings with flair and imagination not frightened to get forward and take a chance. We I'm afraid are going to be the league's whipping boys unless he sorts the back out. Come to mention it the midfield and attack too. Very very poor, how you think Kaboul is the answer is beyond me. As for Coates yes he was awful too. As I say we have a whole squad of inadequate standard players. Get down to the Hetton Centre and support the ladies and Beth Mead. At least you will see an entertaining game.

{Ed001's Note - to be fair to Coates, he tends to be a slow starter and need a few games to find his feet. He needs a game or three to get his form sorted.}
