Until we raise our maximum wage which has been in place since we signed stead malbranque all those years ago we will never be able to attract decent players . Fact

Fletcher to get Sunderland relegated as he did with burnley and wolves good luck : )

Believable3 Unbelievable6

The squads got them relegated not Fletcher, I wouldn't call hitting double figures relegating a team. Safc93

Agree5 Disagree2

How can a striker get you relegated?person,a bad defence and keeper gets you relegated.tk73

Another game lost without a goal. We better bring in strikers before the Arsenal game. Nobody knows what's happening with the fletcher deal and Defoe likewise. We were linked with so many players a few days ago, now it's quiet again. I still have faith that O'Neill will bring some decency into the club though.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Think he put all his hopes on average fletcher. Doesnt look good. Running out of options and time. Hate saying this but i think its looking like a quarter to midnight last day heskey deal

It is really poor reporting, when you get linked with a player who will never leave London. (Defoe). More likely to go to QPR. Sick of all this awful media reporting total crap.

I think sunderland need to re-think their wages policy to attract a proven goal scorer.Man Utd have rooney on top wages whilst his team mates will be on a lot less as do a lot of other clubs[this is merely an example].We need to pay higher wages than we are to get the quality up here, the more successful we are the more revenue will follow.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Rooney on a reported 220k a week nearly 9 million a year so a 5 year contract so that would mean 44 MILLION in wages plus for a player like rooney 35 million+ to buy safc aint got or never will have that kind of budget now dream on.....

Agree2 Disagree0

We will never have the budget because we ain't winning trophies or getting in Europe when we start doing this we will have more of budget catch 22 situation but something gotta give . Here's a question for everyone if oneil said in order to get a big name striker on say 90 k plus a week but in order to do this we need to get rid of sess n Larson to free up the wage who would go for this.ed what your view on the wage cap

Agree0 Disagree2

Rooney is just crap and does not deserv as much money as he earns kun aguero would be an awesome signing if we linked aguero with sess we would be unstoppable

Agree1 Disagree2

Our maximum wage has stayed the same for years whilst money from sky has doubled, ticket prices risen, and sponsorship money gone way up. So where is it all going? Even qpr and reading offering better wages

Agree2 Disagree0

Qpr owners have more billions that short and make money a lot easier theres why.

Agree0 Disagree1

Rooney crap...put it this way when he retires he would of scored more goals than bent and phillips put together.....

Agree1 Disagree1

Owners not allowed to use their own money anymore with fair play so how can qpr with less attendance and less sponsorship and sky money afford to pay more wages than us. We MUST raise our wage structure to enable us to compete in transfer market. If london clubs like qpr fulham and even reading are offering same or more wages than us then players will go to london. Because of our location we need to offer more than these clubs or be stuck with average players and remain average mid table club. Im sunderland thru and thru but also a realist

O'neill has a history of buying british. He know's the players are used to the pace of the game and are unlikely to want a move after 18 month ( see Gyan and please not Sess) because of the s*** weather, mates and lack of Kristal in da club. His plan is to build a side for the future, so chucking money at a foreign club for an unproven striker is doubtful. Fletcher will be a decent buy, if a bit expensive and i can't remember the last time we scored a header......was it Mart Poom against Derby?

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Unless we sign decent players our future will be in championship mate. Need to act now not for 4 years time

Agree2 Disagree0

Short memory, did'nt Bendner score a couple with his head last season, maybe we should have kept him as was highest scorer at club

If MO'n wants Fletcher and Ellis is happy to spend his bucks, let them get on with it. If Whickham goes the other way, be it as a loan or a sale, good luck to him. Honestly, you would think it's your cash to be spending. Fletcher is better than Whickham, fact. The stats tell us that from last season so let them get on with on with it. I reckon by the end of the week, Fletcher plus one more striker will be in.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

You are full of it. No strikers will be in before deadline day

Agree3 Disagree4

I think ur right mate we will be lucky to have 1 more player in and he will b a defender.tk73

Scott Dann would be a good buy.
I'd take a punt on kevin Davies from Bolton & Jordan Rhodes for 6 Million. Give Ji, Whickham, Campbell & Noble a chance. Have another look in January, we are not going to win the league. Top 10 finish & improve next year. We need to be patient. 12 Million for Fletcher is too much.

Believable1 Unbelievable6

Them signings will not get you in the top 10 thank god your not the manager

Agree2 Disagree0

Im sick of taking a punt on players sunderland are in one of the healthiest positions they have ever been in , lets have the two or three quality players that was supposed to happen.

Agree2 Disagree1

Not sure what the disagree is for? Scott Dann or the forwards, or being patient, or having another look in January, or not winning the league, or top 10 finish?

Agree0 Disagree0

Steven fletcher is a player worth 8 million and Sunderland should sign fletcher,Defoe,Rhodes and Saha

Agree0 Disagree3

Defo noway rhodes is looking like a 6 to 8 million player so he not coming either......

Agree0 Disagree0

If Sunderland can sign fletcher for 12 million then they can sign Rhodes for at least 9 million

It's a season Loan for Whickham as part of the deal. Would give Whickham more experience. I'd still tell Wolves to get lost. 8 Million maximum for Fletcher, less if Whickham goes there on Loan. Come on Sunderland, there is better than Fletcher for less Money.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

Like who.

If MON and Short want quaility instead of quantity my idea of quality is the likes of
James Milner RM
Adam Johnson LM
Jorge Fucile LB
Tom Huddlestone CM
Jermaine Defoe S
John Gudietti S
they will all cost alot of money but if we want to improve as a squad these are the type of players we need or we will just do another repetative season like the last 5 years bottom half/mid table.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Would take all of them m8, MON wont let us down....

11 Aug 2012 09:57:38
we will NEVER get defoe. he wants to stay in london and if it becomes apparent that he is available then qpr will offer him stupid wages. as i have said in the past to get quality players you have to play quality wages. pay average wages (our wage cap is 50m) then you only attract average players. we better get used to it

Believable4 Unbelievable2

11 Aug 2012 09:09:28
Ed maybe you can shed some light on this, has there been any real interest from anyone in Jordan Rhodes? Heard nothing and can't for the life of me understand why he doesn't look like being in the perm or top championship next year

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Supposedly blackburn had bid turned down of 2mill would be worth offering 3mill for him

Why do i keep reading that we will be selling meyler. the lad is coming back from 2 injuries that would have finnished most players careers. mon rates the lad he has just been getting his fitness back training with his father who trains the gaelic footballers i think we will see the meyler who looked so promising before his 1st injury and it will be like having a new signing in the team.

Defoe will never move away from London. Press have got no idea and should be ashamed of really really poor reporting.

I think we should forget about fletcher.
