Who agrees that our rivalry is becoming too bitter?.

Our derby is or was as I think now the biggest and best and most passionate derby in England.

Our rivalry has become, childish, bitter, the banter is just not funny anymore.

We celebrate each others downfall and its pathetic it should be the opposite. No wonder the region is starved of success we don't deserve it. Neither of us.

It comes down to FEAR. We are scared wittless of you winning a cup and having any kind of success and I bet you feel the same way about us.

Its sad.

Our two clubs should be both competing for the champions league as we are the hotbed of football and the most passionate.

Another thing that makes me cringe is when our fans call your attendances even though you average over forty thousand. Its just our fans need that to grip on to being seen as the bigger club.

I have been honest so why don't you.

Were both clubs with potencial. Dare I say it sleeping giants.

Newcastle worldwide as we speak are the bigger club just. European football. fa cup finals. second place finishes etc.

Admire you for coming on and trying to have a sensible conversation. I agree with the majority of what you say, the derby is an absolute monster of a derby, in drives me nuts when arsenal tottenham derby etc get compared. to the south it is a rivalry, to us our whole week depends on a weekend result and a derby result can have an impact for months, the same can't be said for the south. You'll never rid the petty and aggressive comments flying towards each other, its pure misplaced passion and almost tribalistic but let's accept one thing, what an amazing rivalry we both have and deep down we all love it. Weve all got mates from each side and we don't wish any harm to them, but we're both fiercely loyal to our city and club and nobody wants it any other way.

Its nice, and a pleasant surprise, to see a sensible post from the 'enemy' lol. Agree with a lot of what you say mate! Bring on the season!

TBH I agree with most of that, both clubs have the loyalest supporters in the country but it's a shame we don't get the recognition we deserve for it. Both clubs will be up there fighting for top 10 next season IMO. Safc93

Once upon a time we had rivalry, not hatred. I favoured the rivalry. I have actually stood and drank in the Strawberry with Newcastle fans before a derby game. Long time ago mind.

Couldn, t agree more to your post, i, m a passionate sunderland fan but love to see all our north east teams doing well as it reflects on the whole region, still love the derby games and of course stuffing the mags but I want us all doing well middlesboro and hartlepool included

I don't think the team will have a problem gelling
•Di Canio is forcing them to sit together at lunch, and get to know each other
•Double gym and training sessions, together
•Plenty of Pre season games
•Every English man has to partner up with a foreigner
