Anyone seen the player ratings on the echo site? Jones got a 5. Whoever was doing the rating must have mistaken jones for the ball boy. I might even be doing the ball boy an injustice.

Defoe wants to leave! Can honestly say I am pleased about it, Huge wages off the bill for a striker who offers very little. Major overhaul is needed in this club unfortunately I can't see the right quality players being brought in. I am already resigned too relegation and won't return to the sol again this season.

I totally agree with you, no reason why he shouldnt, I feel sorry for him, 5/6 quality players promised and we got 1. Likely was promised a substantial budget and didn't get one. Short and Congerton are disgraceful. I just hope some fans realise it is not really Dicks fault. Yeah he is the manager but who are the ones who have put him to the task with this daft squad in the first place? We could have Ancelotti and we'd still be fighting for relegation. Short needs to spend otherwise goodbye Premier league hello championship.

Also remember lombaerts and fer were his choices, it's not anyone at the clubs fault that one said no & the other failed his medical. I do agree we need a couple more at the very least, I just don't think we'll get it since anyone in their right mind won't come here the way it is now.

Been thinking long and hard bout this our club needs direction a full rebuild from the top down I personally would bite the bullet and bring in a new manager now it's obvious that dick is struggling to get this shower to play mat be disability was rite but I would bring in a strong manager who would play the kids and drop the dross who in my opinion are killing the club I love. Please Mr short save my club from being a joke at present
Bring in a decent manager in allerdyce hoddle or Sean Dyce. Invest big in the club or we will go down. If not sell up and go.

Oh I forgot. Alonzo, borini and ki. Did we replace them with anyone better. Errr no no and no. As other teams have invested wisely with quality we have thrown whatever money we have with dross worse the average players. I f.or one watch with great interest the next two weeks to see what happens to the squad. On a positive note I'll be watching from a pool or restaurant in Majorca spending my hard earned cash on several beers and steak n chips. And when I return I won't be going back wasting my money only to be left devastated and another miserable week at work. Come on short. Sack congers and get people in who can get deals done for quality players.

Hate to say it but it's not another manager we need but I fear advocate will leave in the next 48 hrs. He has been let down by the utter sh. t congerton has brought in over the last 3 seasons. If short has Sunderland as a serious business investment he should be looking at getting rid of conger ton and employing me to get the players he needs.
Naismith at everton , Evans at Manchester United are just two I would go for. Did we ever replace sessegnon? No! Did we ever replace colback? No! Certainly not with better players. Who gave wes brown another contract when they knew he was crocked!!! Whickham a 5 yr contract???? Seriously if this was any other business conger ton would have been sacked. Does anyone else agree??

It was fascinating to watch the edited interview with Lee Cattermole on MOTD. He seemed to give the impression that there may be players who have decided they are deliberately not playing at their full potential.
Either they are sulking at the re appointment of the manager which shows a complete lack of forward vision. I have nothing against Mr Advocaat but his appointment is hardly an endorsement of a forward thinking progressive club or the players are rebelling against the selling of Conor Wickham and the lack of additions to the squad. Advocaat also eluded to the fact that the lack of effort has been present all through pre season which is extremely worrying. On a personal note I fail to understand as a manager of Advocaats experience how you make no changes to a back 4 after the Leicester game. I wonder what O Shea has done to annoy the manager? Whatmore was refreshing but alone he is not going to make a losing team into a team you can reasonably expect to get anything against Swansea next week. I just hope they show some pride and respect for the fans and the result isn't embarrassing. On the form shown so far we are in for a torrid time next week and 3 defeats from 3 will be a complete and utter disaster. I fear after 2 games that the problems run so deep that it is already too late and let's be honest we look like the worst side in the Premiership at the moment. I can't see that changing in a hurry. We do need at least 4 or 5 players to make us competitive and we simply aren't going to get them. All the prices have just shot up for us. Who would want to come to this set up? As for the fans, we deserve more and anyone blindly paying the money to go and watch sub standard football then good luck. Frankly I went to see the ladies play Saturday evening and saw more effort there. On a plus note the fans can go and see a progressive, exciting, pacy, forward thinking and skilful side in Swansea. We can only dream of such riches and sadly look forward to a home fixture against MK DONS next season. How on Gods earth can that be true?

I think we can all see that when you don't fix problems things get worse. I have been surprised by then clamour for strikers over the past two years- not because we did not need them, but because it does not matter who you have up front if your defence gives away goals on a weekly basis. Pathetic as Fletcher has been, we can't expect any forward to maintain confidence when the team is consistently off the pace and there is so much pressure on every chance.
We need to build from the back- and substantial investment will be needed to avoid relegation.
Alonso, Byram and Van Dijk would give us a solid back line, which has to be the first priority, and probably these players could be brought in for a little over £20m. Then some creativity in midfield would further relieve the pressure on the defence, as we would not be constantly giving the ball away. We should have stumped up for Wijnaldum or Nzonzi, but they are gone now, and we are unlikely to see much change out of £10m for a the sort of drive we lack. Actually, with better organisation at the back and some attention to keeping the ballad using it, Defoe and Whatmore could do the necessary, so £30m could keep us up, a relatively modest investment. One thing is clear, sticking to the current policies will see us go down, and further alienate fans who are sick of the constant promises and woeful performances.
Meanwhile, Bridcutt, Buckley, Jones, Kaboul, Rodwell and Fletcher should be got rid of in a fire sale- none of them is worth a place, and the failure to move on substandard players has been as big a problem as recruiting good ones over recent years.
Short must realise that unless he spends quickly- and more important intelligently- he will be looking at a drop in income of about £40m next year, and this bunch of overpaid, under-performing clowns will be lucky to play out the season in front of 20,000 crowds.
