I am comparing our situation to Chelsea when AVB was put in charge. He brought new methods to the club and upset the senior players, ie Terry, Lampard and Drogba. They therefore didn't perform when they were selected and more than likely turned other players against him as well. This cost him his job and RDM came in, was nicey nicey and they started to play again and won the Champions League.

PDC did the same as AVB. He upset the senior players and it also cost him his job as they did not perform and complained about him. Had he utilised man management then he would still have a job now.

I am hoping GP comes in, talks to the players, gets them onside and off they go starting to perform on the pitch. Our squad is not that bad, although it does need strengthening in some areas, so happy players might just pull us up from the position we are in now.

Haway the lads!

Well let's hope so pal, a few of the players have already spoken out sayin how positive all the staff are. We all just need to see results now and I think its all down to our first 2 games swans and mags. If we beat these which I no is possible, it will boost us all up and we will start from there! But if it all goes wrong then am afraid its going to kill us off.

Agree0 Disagree0

If that theory was correct, they would have started performing when Kevin Ball was in put in charge.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice in theory however PDC bought UTTER sh*^% and now you're stuck with them!

Agree0 Disagree0

Now your stuck with them? mags are fools, PDC didn't buy sh**e as you say! they just haven't clicked as of yet and he destroyed their confidence, now hopefully Poyet will get them playing, when is the court case for your loaned star striker? only player on your team who is keeping you out of the relegation places mugpie! won't be long before you start losing games, start with as big defeat by Liverpool and then a defeat by us! SGB!

Agree0 Disagree0

No he didn't
We are stuck with them, but that's a good thing

Agree0 Disagree0

Disagree, pdc bought better players and its the old guard who are the disgrace, fleeced our club for too long and don't deserve anyone being nicey nice. Spend so long talking a great game to media they forget to actually play like it. PDC was good for this football club and deserves credit for trying to improve us with a plan for change.

Agree0 Disagree0

They did start performing when Ball took over there was a marked difference in effort for the Liverpool and Man U games I just hope that the points we lost when they weren't playing for PDC don't ultimately cost us. On the plus side I'm glad we're going to win the Champions league.

Think I better clarify in case you have not seen any of my previous posts on Rumours and Banter pages.

I stated above his man management cost PDC his job as he upset too many of the senior players. This was IMO identical to AVB at Chelsea. However, I actually agreed with his assessment and work ethos that he tried to instill in the club.

We have over the hill and very average players who are overpaid. They lacked drive and passion, fitness, commitment and an understanding of what football means in the North East. Their mentality was play, take the wages and not really care about performance.

PDC wanted to change all of this but his approach was too radical all at once. He had to change the overall mentality from negative to positive. He had to improve diet and fitness. He had to instill pride to wear the club shirt. He had to change the style of play form sit back and hope they don't score to try and attack first and score before they do.

Ok, it didn't work. New players not integrated, old players refusing to change, all players being treat like school children, public criticism (Ok end of last season but not this season with his own squad)

The club needed a massive overhaul in the way it conducted its business. New scouts, new DOF, new transfer policy and adhering to the new FFP regulations. Short has done this and had PDC learnt some personal skills I believe he would have done very well, a bit like AVB at Spurs now!

So to conclude, I liked PDC and regret he could not alter his management to meet the scenario he was working in. He therefore had to go but my priority in January and at the end of the season would be to move on the players who revolted against him, unless they have bought into GP's ethos and are performing week in week out.

Heard the rumours about Ulloa from Brighton. Decent player but not sure another target man is really what we need. If we're going to get a striker make it a nippy poacher, who plays off the last defender.

We want Emenike
But it will be a tough one to pull off
