For the people saying it may be a good thing if we get relegated let's get real. If we go down then we will lose so much money the owner is highly unlikely to spend big as he hasn't done so for the last two seasons in the Premiership. It is arguably more difficult to get out of the Championship than stay in the Premiership. We need to stay in it at all costs. We will lose all the decent players for nothing and I know some will say what decent players but you won't get out of the Championship with the youth team. The team we have is probably full of good Championship players but don't underestimate that leaving the Premiership will lose sponsorship and an enormous amount of money from TV rights. It will be an unprecedented disaster for the club and the City.

He's not spent big the last few years due to having no wage to pay anyone. We spent over 117mil in the last five years and god only knows how much in golden handshakes to managers we've fired. 3mil to poyet for horrifically screwing up an entire season, it's insane.

Makes you wonder how much di canio or any of the other 5 in the last 5 seasons got.

We desperately need to get rid of at least half our squad, especially the ones on silly money for their ability. Relegation is probably the best way for that to happen no matter how much it'd suck.

I have to say I agree with lessthan88. If going down to clear out overpaid players was good business, then clubs would be fighting to get relegated rather than staying up.

Ok. Dick Advocaat has been appointed as our 'Short Term' head coach / manager (whatever they are called these days)

He is 67 with no premier league experience (except Scottish Premier League but that doesn't count)

He has however won titles in Holland and Uefa Cup's with Zenit so does have some kind of track record.

He has also managed multiple national teams so his reputation must carry some weight.

A post further down states that he is a disciplinarian so I really hope this is true. PDC identified that our players were unfit drinkers with poor diets but got rebelled against and wasn't backed by the board. Hopefully they will stand by Dick!

Is he the right choice?? Who knows?? He was available so who else fell into that category? Hoddle, Lambert, Curbishley, Redknapp. Would you want any of those in charge?

The real point is it doesn't matter. Gus had lost the fans, ran out of any ideas, had no tactical solutions and had a team stripped of any confidence where players did not know what role they were meant to be carrying out.

Basically, Dick is our manager so for 9 games at least let's get behind him and the team and hopefully we stay up and can rebuild in the summer.

Haway the lads!

GNSAFC, you're right. He probably was the best we could do. But in the end, he's a band-aid on a broken arm at best. PDC and Poyet both did what Dick was hired to do and look where we are. Back to square one. Another major overhaul is probably going to happen AGAIN this summer, and that's if we stay up. Signing 10+ quality players and sticking to FFP isn't something the club has shown it can do well. I hope the club can spend these next 2 months establishing a plan for next season and setting their sights higher than 17th.

USA your band aid comment is correct. The issues are within the higher levels of club and the squad of players. Keane, Bruce and O'Neil all wasted large transfer budgets for poor players soso PDC and Gus had limited funds. The main core of the squad are the same players so until these are shipped out we will not move forward.

The issue now is players have lost so much value. Fletcher , Wickham, Rodwell, Johnson (if he's not locked up) will return nowhere near the double figure millions we paid. Giacherrini and Graham again will get nowhere near the fees forked out.

How do we rejuvenate the squad on limited funds and still survive (assuming we do this season)? Maybe relegation is what we need to clear them out and start again!

Agree with above comments like Dick or not he's here and let's give him 100% support hell certainly give the players a much needed kick up the backside which is long overdue. and reports coming out that defoe quoted he's was frustrated by Poyets tactics (his body language said that ) and Gus rejected both Moses and Richards last Summer over Congelton shows the rift and lack of vision by Poyet ! and also agree the band aid comment ! we need an overhaul not just at player level but in the board room ! and that's long over due aswell !

Advocaat as manager

Back room staff
R. White Fitness coach
B. Lime Goalkeeping coach
M. Gin. Optional coach

Add a little zest
Stir a little fizz
And things will snowball from there!!,

For those who don't know
R. White is a secret lemonade drinker

Well here we go. A big risk with Advocaat with no Premiership experience. I don't think managing a team in Scotland counts!! Having said all that it's now time to get behind the team and hopefully he can get the squad playing in a way that they are comfortable with starting on Saturday at West Ham. Let's hope we put in a good display.

A little research says Advocaat's preferred system is a 4-3-3. I hope he's more flexible than Poyet was because I don't see that working with the players we have. But I suppose with some of the developmental lads it could work. Thoughts?

Dissapointed with the appointment of Advocaat ! i'd have put Bally and Bracewell mind I've read Advocatt is a dicliplinarian and has a high work ethic which the players need but itll be interesting if he plays the kids and remember the same coaching staff that Poyet brought in are still there so how would that work ?? and more importantly IMO the regime at the top ie Byrne Short and paticulally Congelton need to go and we need a change at the top the whole structure is wrong at this club but for now let's support the manager and deal with the sackings in the summer and have a BIG clear out !
