I can see Sunderland improving next season.I am not delusional enough to suggest we will be Champions League 2012/13 however a good run in either cup plus a top eight finish would represent progress. That is what SAFC is all about at present WORK IN PROGRESS.Let's just enjoy the season and the football club for what it is.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Totally agree although with this amount of signings they're either gonna bond and do REALLY well or REALLY poor, don't think we're in for a run of the mill season. I'm staying optimistic now we've got goals from the Midfield and also Sessegnon is adapting to the English game.

SAFC'tilIdie

Agree0 Disagree0

Top 8 finish would be good, I'd be really happy with 7th, but we should be aiming for europe and show we mean business this season

Agree0 Disagree0

How many points were thrown away last season? another 10 or 12 points would have been achievable last season with more depth in our squad , this is not delusional, it has sound basis. .

Agree0 Disagree0

European qualification is harder than ever for clubs like us now though. You have Spurs who are always spending, maybe they've hit a slight rough patch but I still don't see them dropping out of the top 6, Liverpool have loads of money now, United still manage to spend somehow, and obviously City and Chelsea. Arsenal are the only ones who don't but they'll still be up there unless something severe happens.

Need some serious financial backing to get up there now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Still think Bruce and Quinn know what they doing, patience and I think we will get 2 or 3 good quality signings in before the end of the window. have faith lad

if we can't afford nzogbia we def can't afford johnson will cost twice as much and wages out of our wage structure

Believable1 Unbelievable0

That is the problem with trying to sign City players. They are lured there on ridiculous wages and don't want to take a cut to leave.

Agree0 Disagree0

Will people stop mentioning adam johnson on the rumour pages. the lads a fantastic player who had a great season and there will be more to come next year. we couldn't afford his fee or wages so stop it

Believable3 Unbelievable1

He was about join but offered double what we were offering we could affod him just Man city could offer more

Agree0 Disagree0

2 answers to that No he wasnt and no you can't Simple not drawn out and easily understood Johnson is outa SAFC and NUFC league at the minute And he will play a big part for city this season

Any news on transfer targets? Not just ridiculous rumours please, just players that have a real chance of coming to us. Any rumours too Ed?
Cheers,
SAFC 'til I die

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ye hopefully we gonna pip newcastle to there targets of bedtner, sturridge, drogba, and erdinc take ye pick as we have more ambition so they will come to us first mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Who does Bedtner play for? Never heard of him. Drogba isn't a target of ours either.

Agree0 Disagree0

And who was it a couple of weeks ago who said the geordies pinch our targets? You have as much chance of getting these players as we do

Agree0 Disagree0

Only Steve Bruce and sir Alex ferguson know the answer

nzogbia has got what he wants teams fighting over him which in turn makes his weekly pay packet rise and rise, im happy bruce has pulled out think he would just rock the boat , if he wanted to play for safc he would be there now

Believable4 Unbelievable1

When will you muppets realise that no one off any quality will come to you. Whickham using you as a stepping stone, the rest you signed either past it or just not very good. you will never amount to anything only one team in the north east. Always has been always will be. Smb

Believable0 Unbelievable2

There's been some decent conversations stoked up today from both sets of fans then sum divvy has to come and lower the tone

Agree0 Disagree0

That jealousy really sticks out, and yes there is only 1 north east team and they play in red and white, you muppet, like the man said there has been sum good banter and a d*** head like you has to spoil it you, oh and by the way not many s/land fans have said we are buying quality, but then again where is your quality u got none, what you have will be sold, tiote, barton enrique all gone by the start of the season SGB.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spelling and punctuation. . . F minus

Agree0 Disagree0

Spelling and punctuation. . F minus. . That's hilarious. . not

Agree0 Disagree0

Red and white? What Middlesborough?

Agree0 Disagree0

What the hell does middlesboro have to do with anything? They not even worth talking about

Agree0 Disagree0

Pathetic Geordie clown talking crap

Agree0 Disagree0

Im a geordie and agree about being some good crack until gets spoilt Thats not banter its just a no brainer really BUT. . Tiote won't be sold Think about Gyan and that's the same boat as tiote

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think its fair to say Sunderland are a stepping stone for Wickham. The lad isn't even THAT good, there may have been some reported interest from bigger clubs, but nothing serious.

A good, young prospect. But he still only managed 9 league goals in the Championship. Sunderland, or a similar midtable club are about the right level for him at the minute.

Agree0 Disagree0

He was used on the right wing for most of last season, he did preform a few assists

Love the fact that some supporters seem to think SAFC will get into europe this year There is no chance of SAFC finishing above man utd, man city, chelsea, arsenal, liverpool, spurs, so that's that out of the question Thats the top 6 again this year coming but maybe not in that order

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You seem that clever i thought ye could have put them in order of finishing but then ye don't know a lot do ye

Agree0 Disagree0

Possibly that order then If i don't know a lot then how come you said i seemed clever? Contradiction in the same sentence now that's not clever mate Try having educated digs instead of mouth running before brain in gear

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate, judging by the way that guy is typing, he is the same person who responds to most peoples posts on here. You can't make a point, no matter how valid without him trying to insult "ye". . and failing miserably because he's dense.

Nothing he writes ever makes sense anyway so I'd just ignore him. Just a walking contradiction.

His response to this will no doubt be to call me a sad Geordie clown for posting on here, then tell me I'm jealous that we have no money to spend and are gonna get relegated. He is that predictable.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think any SAFC fans have talked about Europe , We know that more points could have been achieved last season and the strengh in depth may help us to achieve those extra points this season, therefore a higher leauge position is acheivable , this is not rocket science, it is do-able (a higher position not necesseraly europe. . )

Agree0 Disagree0

Sunderland will try and get into Europe this season, our problem last season we didn't have a big enough squad and good cover, we have changed that now, if we finish higher than last season it is an improvement but we will be aiming for europe not relegation like Scumcastle

Agree0 Disagree0

Think both teams will be around the mid table again

Agree0 Disagree0

Same s**tty banter. Why would we be aiming for relegation when we finished 12th last season, just out of the top half? We're aiming for the top half of the table just like you. Which is funnier because we just came back from the Championship, whereas you have been spending millions to finish where we did last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

And we only were out of top ten by 1 point so its fair to say that now we not just a newly promoted team that we can push on and play for more points and look up the table

Agree0 Disagree0

Not when you lose your best players. but if you wnat to cheer yourself up with false hope geordie's then krak on

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, but you lot are losing Gyan so.

Agree0 Disagree0

We don't need to finish 6th to get in to europe just win a cup which with this squad is possible

Agree0 Disagree0

True, true. Cups are unpredictable though, anyone can win one. Can't be focussing everything on winning the league cup and finishing poorly.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2011 17:29:15
i, m a makem mate and believe me we will not be spending 27 million on 1 player and that's a fact allthough it pains me to admit it we just don't have that kind of money for 1 player.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

That's some one having a laugh and you were daft enough to reply

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said When i raed the post on the rumour page i nearly choked Thats not even a dream to be honest its just plain silly For one i doubt man city would let him go and 2 he wouldn't cost that and in all honesty SAFC don't have that to spend on one player Spent 28 mill up to now and add wages to that figure and SAFc pretty much finished spending

Agree0 Disagree0

Give me a run down on the 28 million please

Agree0 Disagree0

I never put the post up but 2 for won 2 for elmohamady 6 for gardener 7 for man utd lads and 8 rising to 12 for wickham that 25 or if ye add all the wickham fee that's 29

Agree0 Disagree0

Go to and check the table for money spent and it states with signing on fees that SAFC have spent 28 million plus like the guy above said add them up

Agree0 Disagree0

And on top of all that you still won't have enough dosh to but johnson

Agree0 Disagree0

You fail to mention the money that has come into the club Bent, Jordon and others even with bents money been diluted to Spurs, also don't we have 2m coming in each year from the Jones sale we also have the free players brought in and of course monies made from 3 nights of sold out take that concerts and Kings of leon. . There is a lot of cash floating around, probably more than people think

Agree0 Disagree0

As as been said on ere before the SOL was used for countless concerts but SAFC don't get the money from this only get a arena hire fee and food and drink money that is it Its a lot but not enough to buy a player

Agree0 Disagree0

That is wrong the stadium get a fee for holding/renting the stadium to the music promotors also a good promotor would have a share of the beer and food sales

It's rumoured on one of today's websites that Aston villa manager has given nzogbia until Saturday to give him an answer, but they say that nzogbia is waiting for another club to come in for him and that club is thought to be Sunderland.
_ _ _ _ _

Its Everton

- - - - -

EVERTON? Who are as much as skint are going into a bidding war with Villa who have at least £20/30m to spend and are willing to pay Nzogbia £80k a week? I don't think so mate.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sunderland won't pay him that much either. N'Zogbia would prefer Everton so he doesn't have to uproot his family.

Toon coming in peace, looking for some mackems who know football to give me their thoughts. .

Sunderland 1st Team
westwood. .brown. . oshea. . bramble. . bardsley. .larsson. . gardner. . vaughan. . richardson. . sessegnon. . gyan

Newcastle 1st Team
krul. . simpson. . taylor. . coloccini. . enrique. . barton. . tiote. . cabaye. . gutierrez. . ben arfa. . ba

Sunderland 2nd Team
mignolet. . angeleri. .ferdinand. . turner. . blair. . elmohamady. . cattermole. . colback. . malbranque. . dong won. . wickham

Newcastle 2nd Team
forster. . r.taylor. . williamson. . kadar. . ferguson. . gosling. . guthrie. . abeid. . marveaux. . ameobi. . best

Thats how things stand at the moment, all rumours, future moves or other crap is all hypothetical, i don't argue what isn't real. .

Now all animosity aside, i m just interested to know what real mackems that know football think looking at it objectively. .

It genuinely baffles me how some think that Sunderland are a much better side and will definitely be in Europe next season. think theyve made some good solid signings and will do okay but to think that theyre any better off than the toon is beyond me. . both will be pushing top half but very lucky to get a European place, and neither will be caught up in a relegation battle

Honestly, being as fair and objective as I can possibly be, looking at the squads as they stand the only players I would have in your first team ahead of what we have is probably Brown for Simpson and Gyan for Ba. Ba is a good player, will suit our play and compliment our attacking midfielders this season and will get goals, but admittedly Gyan is the better player

Again going into the squad depth. . theres only two, maybe three positions I would rather have the Sunderland player but theres not much between the back up to be honest, few unknown entities as yet, few gambles and few that would sway either way based on personal opinion

Anyway just wanted to send it on to the mackems and get some football talk going instead of the repetitive abuse, getting a bit boring at this stage. .

KRTOON

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Sessegnon would walk in mag team before jonas. Was a little slow to get started when he signed but once he found his feet he was absolute quality. he will be our best player next season. I know a lot of yous have your gripes about gutierez.

Agree0 Disagree0

I take your sentiments to be genuine, SAFC lost so many points last season, remember how we started the last campaigne before the injuries? If we could have kept our fitness, 10, 12, points or more would not have been unfeasable.
With having more depth we may get those extra points.
There is one signing I am genuinly excited about but no one has mentioned. Hes a under 21 kid from Arsenal on a out of contract. He can player on either wing and is a striker, one for the future perhaps but the talk is from my Arsenal friends is he may do a job in the 1st team if given a chance.
Another striker and a left winger will see the shape more or less complete.
I don't want to preemt any end of season conclusions but SAFC and NUFC have a good chance to make some ground this season. The bottom half teams from the last campaign will be there or there abouts. I think Stoke punched above their weight last season, Villa are in disaray and they may not have any momenum and Ive got a feeling all is not well at Spurs.
Clutching at straws a little, but I think Liverpool have it all to prove and if they get off to a bad start they may find the fans on their backs. Pure speculation I agree but not without foundation.
I think Nolan will be a big miss for NUFC and if the speculation about Barton leaving (speculation I grant you) then he would be a miss if he was to go.
I know our new players from Blackpool and Birmingham were relegated players but they shone in those teams and have proven Pemieship qualities. The Man U lads have a couple of seasons in them. Can you remember when Steve bould came to SAFC ?how he steadied the lads at the back? granted not for long because of injuries but it was job done by the time he left. Experience in the premieship in this re-building programme for us and I feel with NUFC is paramount . All snide remarks aside if we had both our teams and the Boro competing at the top it would be fantastic for all of us and the region.

Agree0 Disagree0

You do love to talk about football mr krtoon. I know yous hav a laugh for his comedy value at times but titus would get in that team. The lad was immense last season and had one bad game (you know which one) He was either gona have the best game of his life or the worst that day and he had the latter. He was solid all season and I wouldn't swap him for either colo or taylor

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok krtoon good t see ye post agree if both sides could field those first 11 then top table finishes should be in there grasp but if newcastle had same injuries as sunderland last season could you see some of the lads in your 2nd 11 doing ok in premiership i think they would find life hard. but putting that aside both teams should be ok as for the man speaking about boro that would be nice but it is going to take a few seasons for them.
one gary rowell

Agree0 Disagree0

Been a mag through and through the last 4 5 post above are spot on about nufc and safc. instead of both sets of fans slavering on who they getting or not getting who has more money or bigger crowds etc etc etc. nice to see some times

Agree0 Disagree0

Proper fans who are having proper discussion about proper football Thats the way Think both teams could push on this season but think europe too far for both of them

Agree0 Disagree0

Is this the same europe that stoke and birmingham are in? If them 2 pile of w*** can get in there's hope for any team in the prem

Agree0 Disagree0

Must agree about proper fans and europe through one of the cups look the best option. but liverpool going through a change and spurs not looking stable at the minute 5th place i think is out of reach but not by far

Agree0 Disagree0

Safc fan all the way But must say enjoyed reading the above posts, a little bit of reality.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with the SANE comments above. We have added depth to our squad and there is still the two to come in during August. How NUFC go about their business is basically none of my concern after all it is only six points we are playing for no more and no less than any other of the eighteen clubs in the league. The person who posts SAFC are going to sign Mustoe/Rod Wallace/Marco Branca or anyone from the 80s or 90s really OUGHT TO GET OUT MORE as a PC keyboard is something that he/she should not be allowed to go near.Goood banter is great but insane comments GET A LIFE

Agree0 Disagree0

The Mustoe/Branca/Wallace comments were a joke, obviously. Lighten up.
