Open letter from Gus trying to keep the fans on his side!!

Personally thought the text and content were poor and should have been worded better.

However, keep the faith and support the team. Hopefully they step up a gear again on Saturday and I for one will not be booing from my seat!!

I just read the letter. Even though it was filled with the same stuff we keep hearing (great escape, trip to Wembley, derby wins, patience is needed) I think it shows class and validates that he does care about the fans. He didn't have to write it. He could've left it all alone. It shows he cares, which I never really doubted anyway.

I think he was told he had to release a letter and I doubt he actually wrote it. He will have vetted and approved it though.

I think he cares as he is a professional person so has pride to go with that. He just needs to accept his tactics are wrong sometimes and learn to change them during a match. He needs to berate the players a bit when they have not performed rather than backing them 100% and where possible try to get a settled team. (I know injuries have stopped this from happening)

Either way, as the link from Brighton indicates, his methods are identical and easily combated by other teams. He needs to try different approaches against different teams and hopefully our players will gain some confidence and start performing.

Agreed. Playing the second half the same after being down at halftime makes little sense. And not using subs wisely, or at all, is poor judgment in my opinion as well. But even though his tactics haven't rocketed the club into the top ten, they have stopped the rot. Yes, we're still in the relegation fight, but for now have spent little time in the RZ. Let's hope he can continue to improve, because another manager/regime/playing style will just put the club back to square one. Again.

Agree wih the above Poyet needs to learn IMPROVISATION !! have a plan B and even a plan C !. the letter was interesting but at the end of the day its about results and he has to play differently to get the points on board THEN he can play the pretty football !

changing the manager now will not improve our position and the time for sackings if any will be in the close season !

Think that safcintheusa has had a bang on the head if he thinks that poyets tactics "have stopped the rot".Get real folks this annual battle against relegation isn't going to stop unless we can recruit some decent players, which currently given our situation is difficult.Ive advocated for some time that we should be looking to attract the best talent available in the lower and scottish leagues.I live in hope that we win tomorrow, push on, and prove me wrong.

By "stop the rot" I mean the club has only lost 9 matches in the league, tied for the least in the bottom half with NUFC. Take away the 8 at Southampton (a one off, let's hope) and the goal difference is only -6! That's not bad compared to where we've been at this point in the season the past few years. The club is doing better. That's all I was trying to say. And if we blame Poyet for when the club fails, we should give credit when the club is in a better position than with previous managers.

at the end of the day safcintheusa its about results and Gus has the opportunity to put that right now we will see what sort of manager he is when the chips are down moaning to the press and fans isn't helping ! as he needs the fans on his side !

Ed what's your call on the Gus Poyet situation and his recent rants ? itll be interesting the crowds reaction on Saturday !

{Ed039's Note - I think the pressure is starting to tell on him, there is quite a bit of distance between GP and the fans now and fan power usually wins in the end, I don't see him at Sunderland next season)
