Any thoughts (or predictions) on Wickham's ultimatum?

This is what I think the problem is: In short, it's a lot of little problems. First, it's a World Cup year. Every 4 years this slows down transfers. It's not a big part of the problem, but it did contribute. Second, LC is new to his role and is therefor struggling I bit. Third, it seems to me GP is being quite picky about who he submits a request for. Now, this is not necessarily bad, but I have a feeling LC has a pretty short list to work with compared to other clubs. It's not just about position and price with Gus, it's about the player. And lastly, and most importantly, is that we're trying to move up. I think Gus has convinced Short to try and make the move from bottom 12 (and that's being generous, but I think that's where Short and the board were content competing for the last few years) to the top 10, possibly even 8. As we know, the difference in calibre and price for the players between these to groups is significant. Add that to GP being picky and the pool gets even smaller. I think (and hope) this will work itself out. The World Cup is over, so that's no longer a problem. Given time Congerton can only get better at his job. As we get closer to Deadline Day, Gus will have to lower his expectations a little. And as more of the clubs above us bring in more players, others will be deemed surplus and easier for us to pick up (Borini). Unfortunately, for us and Gus, I think it is all going to go down to the final minute. But keep the faith, nonetheless.

Can someone tell me one positive thing Congerton has done
Apparently all of this failed business is down to him and Poyet is really unhappy about it

Foundation of light open trials for years 1-6? We'll be giving some of them squad numbers if the signings don't happen!

It is extremely unlikely that Brown and O'Shea could get through a month without injury to one or other, let alone a season, and it is probably their last as a central pair anyway. So it is extraordinary that we were only pursuing Williams, and have made no progress since he turned us down. Gus says negotiations are down to Congerton, which may be the problem- what does a 'technical director' know about wheeling and dealing in among players agents? So far, the answer would appear to be not much, as his major contribution has been to drive up prices and help targeted players get better contracts where they are. Scouting is one thing- persuading players to join is another. And at the minute it is not scouting expertise we need.
