Cattermole. Calm, cool, collected and class. Controlled the game from start to finish even when he wasn't on the ball. I used to think he was a liability but we've missed him. Safc93

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Unbelievable cross for the first goal

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, it is becoming apparent he could be a good player in the Championship. ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

So pleased to have him back

Agree0 Disagree0

Ah look the mag comment, we always play better with catts in the team, hopefully time for us to rise the table

Agree0 Disagree0

After 2 wins they probably think they are going for Champions League.
Nice to see Kinnear having such a good time while they were getting stuffed by Hull.

Agree0 Disagree0

Last night is a big difference than us playing Liverpool on Saturday man utd next then Swansea away its people like Cattermole Larson gardener oshea bardsley colbeck mclean sessegnon and the rest why we finished 4th bottom until we can move the dross on we will always be a bottom 6 side

Agree0 Disagree0

Always time to change

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree with your comments, stick with this lot and we will definitely be relegated. Last season they managed to win 9 games, but got paid a million quid each at least, happy if the whole lot of them get what they deserve, the old heave hoe.

Agree0 Disagree0

Last season they played under a manager that was never there and were coached by morons.
If you are a Sunderland supporter, please go and support those up the road.
Unfortunately there is no pill for pessimism.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jeez i'm a sunderland fan mate but I wonder about you myself. then again the mags on their page always seem to have a laugh at you.

Give the job to Kevin ball.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree give bally it with reidy along side him. 2 honest dedicated men who love safc and know the fans will back them. bally is a class act

Agree0 Disagree0

Good start for bally, one game at a time but see how we do against liverpool 1st

Agree0 Disagree0

I would see how we play in the next 2 games and then decide if he gets it. Impressive stuff tonight though. Safc93

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't jump the gun yet it's one game, plus non premier team it's different ball game on sunday. The test will start from that day, I do think we had a good game last night, I would personaly like zola, I like the way he gets his team playing attractive football, but we will just have to wait and see.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep, give Kevin Ball the job for masterminding a win against a League 1 side not interested in the cup. LMAO

Agree0 Disagree0

A league one side Mugpie who average scoring 3 goals a game and are 2nd in their table having won 8 put of 10 games, not like playing the mighty morecambe is it SGB? look chelsea only beat swindon 2-0 and they lower than peterborough

Agree0 Disagree0

People getting carried away

Give the job to Peter Reid on a month to month deal.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Reidy super kev and bally. my dream team

Agree0 Disagree0

Peter Reid! Last time he was in charge wasn't some of our fans hurling pies at him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Best record of any manager for a long time. As for the pies he mite of been hungry

Agree0 Disagree0

Reidy needed those pies to soak up all the alcohol he'd had. Got to admit we played some cracking football under him.

Anybody else think we should field a full strength team tonight to at least try and show that we have some sort of potetial to some protractive manager targets?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes, we need to find our strongest team and stick with it which we havnt done which makes us lose games

Agree0 Disagree0

What about the super hero, Massive sunderland fan, get you into europe, take you to the next level, proven winner as a manager, best man for the job, the one and only Martin O`Neil as the next manager? Well that's what was said before his last spell in charge.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's so funny the mags trying to get bites off us but making themselves foolish, are you even through puberty yet mugpie? your comment is beyond childish, if you look at O'neills record for us that's why he lost his job, didn't take training sessions and didn't have his trusty number 2 robertson with him, we got PDC who did his job in keeping us up last season and hammering you lot 0-3 at the wonga arena! now we needed a change as he lost the players with his ego and slating them every week, If we get Di Matteo or Poyet, 2 names that you lot would love to manage you! but Fact is you got Le Pardpoo for 6 more years as he is a yes man and puppet on Agent Mikes strings! and that is why every other manager turned you down as they know N0wcastl3 is a complete circus!

Agree0 Disagree0

The players performance and the fans booing got bruce the sack. once again the players performance got mon the boot, and yet again player power gets another manager sacked. there is a lot of rotten apples in our club and until they are weeded out and dispersed of I fear for whoever gets the job if his not liked by the bad apples he could be out of a job by xmas. unless we get a strong person in who also gets the backing of the club over the players we will be doomed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Player power exists in every club.
A good manager learns to work with it.
This is not a local problem, so stop the witch hunt, it will do no good.

To be fair to De Canio, I keep reading he signed 14 players. I thought the Football Director (whatever that is) signed them.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

my team for tonight would be

Mannone
Gardner
O'Shea
Cuellar
Dossena
Larsson
Cattermole
Vaughan
Mavrias
Borini
Altidore

I know people are thinking what about celutska Johnson westwood colback diakite ki but I think they all need resting for the massive game on sunday

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We need to win tonight to get back some confidence and self respect. Kevin Ball was not the most skilfull player but he was probably first on the team sheet. He will get the best out of the players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cuellar no, vaughan no!

Agree0 Disagree0

Would love to see cabral back tonight thought he was outstanding against fulham

Agree0 Disagree0

I bet the guy who said no cuellar feels a tad silly now he's was solid at the back

If reports that 'senior players' refused to play and told Di Canio that 'nobody wants you at this club' are true, then they should be ashamed of themselves. How many of them believe that the fans want players with so little to offer at the club? Can the fans, too, sneak off for a word with Margaret Byrne and have them sent on their way? These players have been a source of embarrassment on and off the field, and whatever Paulo's shortcomings, they should behave like men and get on with it, not go whingeing behind his back like spoilt little brats. If Short really wants to show he will not tolerate mediocrity, the players involved should follow the manager out of the door. The constant factors in years of disappointment are players like O'Shea, Cattermole, Larsson, and their overpaid colleagues. Managers have come and gone but we still have a core of players who are just not good enough. Despite his limitations, it is a pity Paulo did not last for one more window and get rid of the the lot of them!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sorry mate that would have been down to the Director of Football, what ever that is. What a laugh, the manager not having a say.

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree with the first post, the club must get rid of this core of p**s head players who have upended at least 2 and maybe 3 good managers. These so called senior players are happy to go through the motions week in and week out, and come on, we know the players who are not giving 100%. It has got to be addressed by the club to give any new manager a chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

Could not agree more. The revolution must not stop. The second rate moaning, freeloading neanderthals have to go.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mag here in peace. I have worked in a situation where the manager was great at blaming people and praising himself, in the end the whole team under him contacted the area manager for the meeting as morale was rock bottom business was suffering and we produced a list of grievances which he was confronted with he denied them but we were back up by another senior staff member and he was demoted and decided to leave. The players confronted PDC because morale and motivation was at rock bottom, I have got to say that if he had stayed I believe Sunderland would have went down, this way you have got more of a chance of turning the season around. We had a similar problem at Newcastle a few years ago when Gullitt was in charge. PDC had to go. More and more stuff is coming out in the press eg players banned from speaking to tea lady etc. It could not have been a healthy place to play in, it would have greatly affected the players mental well being, that will take time to rebuild

Agree0 Disagree0

The players who started the revolt have got to go, they are now bigger than the club because they have had a manager sacked, you can't just go spitting the dummy out every time something doesn't go there way, too long have these overpaid underperforming persons gotten away with it, a list of the underperformers are below (in my opinion)
Oshea
Cattermole
Vaughn
Larsson
Cuellar
Bardsley
Johnson
Colback
Whickham
Too long have these players been picking 30-60 thousand a week and offering absolutely nothing in return, I honestly wouldn't be bothered if all of these players quit and left tomorrow, all they want to do is puck up there pay check and piss it against the wall, too long have I wasted my money watching this absolute drivel.

Agree0 Disagree0

First post maybe that's why we couldn't ship any of those players out those who pdc wanted rid of. other managers and agents will know who the trouble makers were and wouldn't touch them with a barge pole

Agree0 Disagree0

Cattermole? did you see him tonight he was a breath of fresh air

Hi. Not a Sunderland fan but what about phil parkinson from bradford. He beat prem teams with a league 2 team to get to cup final. Inexperienced I know but is worth as much of a punt as other names getting banded about. Other than that Poyet is a good shout.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Like the way Bradford play football mate and if he had premier league experience would def give him a chance can see him going onto be a good manager

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Sep 2013 07:52:27
Most likely to be Sunderland manager
Giafranco zola
Steve Mcclaren
Curbishley
Nigel Pearson
Tony pulis

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Di matteo? poyet? mancini mentioned? even caello says Di Matteo would be good for sunderland

Agree0 Disagree0

Mancini would never go. deluded.

Agree0 Disagree0

I said mancini mentioned not that he will come, that was paper and betting talk, your ownly jealous coz you have le pardpoo for 6 more years! haha Mugpie!

Agree0 Disagree0

Looking like Poyet, still want RDM though

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Sep 2013 07:52:26
Who the hell is Di matteo to say he would snub the job if it come his way because he wants a higher profile team! He isn't even that good which I think he isn't the man for the job anyway so do one dm and keep on signing on jobseekers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

When did he say that? don't believe the papers

Agree0 Disagree0

Could not agree more. done nowt at WBA and I could have won a trophy or two with the team he inherited at chelsea

Agree0 Disagree0

I think di matteo doesn't fancy the job because of all the s**** at the club we are now in a situation where managers will be reluctant to come in case they go the same way as di canio.

Agree0 Disagree0

No manager stands a chance while there is poison at the heart of the squad. We need to know who these 'senior players' are that forced this revolt, and they need to be driven out. We have underacheived for years while these 'senior players' have taken the pay cheque and gone on the piss. They have to be named, and they have to go.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What poison?
I agree that too many players are overpaid and pampered too much.
We are never going to change that.
A manager has to manage that situation.
It is not a Sunderland problem, it is global one. Other managers cope.
However, do we know what was going on behind the scenes?
It takes a lot for players to refuse to play ( they were not after a payrise ).
Short acted because it was the right thing to do. Players complaining was just the final nail in his coffin.

Agree0 Disagree0

There's a hard core of lazy piss heads who managed to force a manager out because he wanted them to be professional. The new players will follow their lead if they aren't dealt with. Its poison, and successful managers deal with it by getting rid.

Agree0 Disagree0

Reports in most of the media are saying that Cattermole was the head figure. pity short didn't have the balls of Ashley he had the right idea and got rid of the main instigators at his club in barton and Nolan. I fear our club are in a position from where there is no return unless these players who don't deserve to wear a red and white shirt are kicked out of the club we won't be able to attract a decent manager

Agree0 Disagree0

Catts oshea larson that's them

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Sep 2013 06:07:44
At the end of the day i'd say ellis short got his moneys worth out of PDC, what's a couple of million to pay him off when he saved us from relegation and pocketed another 60m this year, businessman

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Spot on. .

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't say you're saved from relation just yet, you have no manager, no back room staff and a squad if players who are all new and seem to not know how to play together. Honestly, I'm obviously a Geordie but even the most stubborn of Sunderland fans would have to admit you are odds on for relegation with a MASSIVE challenge to stay up

No name

Agree0 Disagree0

I would say The skunks could just as easily go down. Your first team aren't what you'd call quality. Even your own Captain Colo says if you don't pull your fingers out your going to be in a relegation battle. So don't come on here son biggin it up like your an Everton or Swansea fan, and getting all cocky. Long season ahead, and your stuck with Pardew and Kinnear. Now that's worrying!

Agree0 Disagree0

Its obvious he means saved us from relegation last season. It is also obvious we would certainly have been relegated this season if he had stayed.
