If Sess leaves, I would like us to target these players as their potential replacement, these are young, attacking players with a very, very bright future, we have a descent chance of getting these if we offer the right price

Sunderland once had a manager called Alan Brown who was very strict on discipline. The players thought the world of him. His nickname was the Sergeant Major. He took Sunderland down to the old second division twice. The first time he took them down was the first time Sunderland had ever been relegated. On both occasions he left a batch of young players behind who were to make the grade in 1st and 2nd division football. Just a bit of history folks. Dave Redman, season ticket holder twenty years, on the terraces fifty five years.

With the exception of Lloyd and O'Neill,
Cloughies teams loved him as well. Although their relative successes as managers can not be compared, their disciplinarian sides can be.
This is not surprising for it was Brown who inspired Clough in this respect and he was the single greatest influence on the Clough managerial style that was to develop.

Spot on

Don't know where you were watching from, but disciplinarian or not, under Alam Brown we were as poor a side as I can remember over 55 years of following the club. Relegated first season in charge, and six more to get back up. He quit then, leaving us with a very poor side that didn't finish out of the bottom six before going down again aboiut five years later when he was brought back for a second spell. We spent two more years struggling in the old Division Two before he was sacked. He was without a doubt one of the worst managers we have had- and considering some of the dummies we've had here that is no mean feat. Clough learnt nothing from Alan Brown - he was quite pig-headed enough on his own and needed no role models. Fortunately, difficult and arrogant man that he was, he also knew how to motivate footballers. To mention Brown in the same sentence- in fact on the same page- is laughable!

Agree0 Disagree0

Did not say he was a good or bad manager. He left good youth teams though.

Agree0 Disagree0

'Clough learnt nothing from Alan Brown'.
Sir, it is your knowledge of Brian Clough that is laughable.

It looks more and more likely that Sess will leave. A good player but his inconsistency showed last season. Who will we get to replace him? We need somebody creative to fill that gap.

well I hope the 2 agents we are using from Italy are not involved with the tax fiddle involving players deals this could have a huge impact on some of the players we are chasing if they are.
