The win against Newcastle cannot be put into context for a few weeks. Beat Hull then Man City in the next fortnight then we can say we are on the way back. Don't get me wrong it was a great result today against a side who have good players but a poor attitude. Newcastle's game was won at noon when their coach pulled up at the ground. We played the game from 1. 30 and deserved the win, but let's not kid ourselves. At present we are in a dreadful mess and there is much, much hard work to do. BUT IT IS A START.

Agree completely. Poyet obviously wants the lads to play football on the ground. This is a massive cultural shift and will take more than a season to implement. Poyet must be given at least a few seasons regardless of whether we are in the championship next year. Hope it doesn't come to that but 10 wins out of the next 29 games is a big ask. With the heart shown today we can still do it.

Whilst I'm over the moon we won today there is still a lot of negatives? Hopefully now Gus is given the time needed to turn this around!! Possession is key in football it both relieves and adds pressure as we saw today constantly giving it away! But while you have it the opposition ain't hurting ya? A big welldone to the lads and fans today now Come on sunderland till I die! Hawayyyyyyyyy! Well happy 2-1 get in!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah
I think we should play like Southampton, when they have the ball they just keep it, they don't try force their way up field they do it with patience
And when the don't have the ball it is full on pressure, every player within 20 yards is putting them under immense pressure right until they make a mistake
This is why they are 3rd, not a fluke

Agree0 Disagree0

You 2 clearly didn't go to the game did you if this is all youve got to say on it because there isn't a soul who was there today not buzzing and enjoying the moment. Everything else can wait for another day.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree mr makem, they are playing some great football! And top on pressure on there opponents nice to watch? Let's hope Gus can do the same! Sunderland till I die 2-1

Agree0 Disagree0

It seems that mr lemon hops is clouded his vision just because we won the derby and can't read? I am over the moon!and was at the game! And what I saw was good for a derby but not to stay in this league? We have to improve twentyfold!i was and is still buzzing! And my lost voice proves this! But I'm a realist like many on here and there was a lot to work on still! In my opinion! As a fan! Sunderland till I die 2-1 hawayyyyyy!

Either way let's just have a bloody big drink and a great week at work. at last. WEAR WEAR WEARSIDE WEARSIDE WEARSIDE!

Incredibly gutsy performance from the lads today. Altidore was great and Borini's goal was wonderful! Finally a win! Sorry Mags but we needed that! Right heads back on after today now and get back on that pitch, a lot of positives but just as many negatives too. 2-1! HAWAY THE LADS

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That's set a marker - Altidore and Fletcher put huge shifts in. There were two big differences for me. Firstly we showed real grit all over the pitch and secondly we made far less mistakes than we have been doing. Will give the team a huge lift, a win against Hull and we're back.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree! Hull will be gutted that we've won! Once we've got the SoL bouncing then it does tend to carry away too!

When somebody is telling you every day that you’re not good enough, then you are going to lose confidence.
The new manager is building the players’ confidence back up, slowly but surely.
The boys know the performances need to improve, but I think most of it is about confidence.
We never complained about working hard, the only complaints the lads ever had was the very tense atmosphere.
It wasn’t a nice place to come in the mornings. If you’re not enjoying your work, then you’re never going to produce 100 per cent
-STEVEN FLETCHER

No problems with the work ethic, it's just that PDC treat them like dogs, no respect, no understanding, no care

And once again, players under previous v unsuccessful regimes at Sunderland coming out against Di Canio who has as I said before made no negative comments against the club fans or players since leaving the club. These players do it every week, they give it all the fighting talk to the press and give up the minute the going gets tough on the pitch. Fletcher is clearly one of our better players but still disagree with his comments. Ed, have we stopped with sign ins now?
