Sean Dyche apparently has not been contacted. Now, I'm grateful, mind you, but who has then? The top 6 or 7 favourites according to the bookies have all been ruled out by the club, Advocaat, or the manager being suggested. Who are proper possibilities for the job?

As usual with this club looking for a manager is turning into the usual farce . hopefully we will get a decent top manager . WE HOPE!

I see Quinn has suggested Sam Allardyce as new manager, would anyone take him?

I'd rather not, but would prefer him to some of the other names being suggested.

Interesting. When Quinn was chairman he said he wasnt interested in Allardyce and went for Bruce instead. Gven the state we hve been in for the past few seasons Allardyce is probably the best candidate. Not likely to win anything but might keep us away from the relegation battle.

What is the basis for all this hype about Allardyce? His career peaked with Bolton, and since the 2006/7 season he has only had one top half finish (10th) while his stints at Blackburn, Newcastle and West Ham have all ended in the sack. Like his Bolton team, which was better known for the physicality of its play than footballing elegance, he has made the best of quite modest talent. He says he want a ‘break’, so let him put his feet up, and reflect on how good football has been to him. I wish him a long and happy retirement.
Similarly, I keep reading various pundits extolling the virtues of Sean Dyche. They tell us that he is overwhelmingly the fans’ choice. I am sure he is a splendid fellow, and he has shown he can get quite a lot from a very limited squad. But we are not looking forward to continuing with the threadbare outfit we have- I thought we had learnt from Dick Advocaat that we need to invest in quality, bringing in a significant number of new players? Could we not therefore look for a manager that can has experience with quality players- rather than settle in advance for another struggle with the collection ageing defenders, midfield misfits and goal-shy forwards we have? Also, I have not spoken to anyone who, given a choice, would choose Dyche- so where do these stories come from?
I can only hope that these names are a useful smokescreen allowing discussions with more inspirational characters to go on quietly in the background, and that an appointment that will excite players and fans alike is being worked on behind the scenes.
