Personally I think we had a good window this summer. The squad is younger, leaner, fitter, more versatile and certainly less top heavy than the BOGOF by Di FANTI and the Italian loony twelve months ago.
I don't think for one second we will trouble the top four or top six this season. Even tenth would represent success this year but with twenty-two players now we could have a half decent season. Let us see what pans out.

If we don't go downhill and we start taking chances
I see a successful season ahead 10th/11th in league and at least quarter finals in one of the cups

Well it is what it is. Fastern your seat belts the roller coaster ride that is life as a Sunderland supporter has begun for another season. I have been reading the reports on various sites that we need to balance the books etc which all makes sense but I can't help thinking the board are caught between a rock and a hard place. . do we stick or twist throw the cheque book to improve the squad or consolidate conserve our premier league status and hope the balance sheet looks better next summer.

As I started it is what it is let's support the lads. Ha'way the Lads Sunderland till I die.

why all this bad feeling towards borini amazes me last season the lad helped us avoid certain relegation and reach a cup final. i'm sure most of us think he is wrong staying at a club who wanted rid of him but the lad has ambition to force his way into the side which you can't knock. while with us last season he stated on numerous occasions that he intended to fight for his place at Liverpool and even though I think he has no chance, by January I think he will realise and move on weather that's to us or someone else I don't know. I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for last season and hope his desire to break into the Liverpool team gets him a chance as i'm sure as he showed for us he will take it in his stride.

Wahey! Finally a comment on here being positive about a bloke who worked harder than anyone when at the club. I couldn't give a monkeys about all this absolute garbage being aimed at the club on here, Congleton and Poyet doing a great job, not only recruiting proper footballers but changing the standards across the whole club, including improving existing players. We won't go down and Borini will have a v good career because he's got a bit about him. And extremely confident we'll finish ahead of Hull and QPR who are throwing cash around like no tomorrow.

people are a bit peeved because of the way Borini mucked us about,should have just said he would not come at the start,yes he helped us stay up last season,but it seems he thinks he is some sort of a wonder striker,maybe his agent has been filling his head with delousions of grandeour but he will have sores on his ass after bench warming at Liverpool and I will think he will regret his decision.
we will sign another striker in next window or maybe someone on loan in next couple of weeks,maybe Jonas.
thanks Fab for last season but you have went down in my view as another big headed overpaid tart

Largey mate could you or someone enlighten me where borini said he would sign as I never heard or read about it yes we had a bid accepted but the lad wanted to stay at liverpool this is the risk we take with loan signings who shine they usually stay where they are or go to another club rose welbeck given evans to name a few the fans took to now we have coates and alvares who I will be surprised if either sign so don't get to attached as they belong to other clubs

{Ed001's Note - Borini made no secret of not wanting to return to Sunderland. The club knew his position all along, and so did Gus.}

Gus said "it is not Borini who is holding up the deal", but wouldn't say what factors it was. I feel he needs to take a lot of the blame on this one.

we still have the chance to sign Jonas after Valencia terminated his contract. I so hope we do.

Daily Mail running story that FB wanted 90k a week, if so that was a near miss.

I see we could still sign Brazilian striker Jonas because he's a free agent, would be a good buy

Look. let's be honest here, Sunderland is not classed as a 'Big' club in the footballing world. Yes we have a good stadium and top training facilities but the location and our regular relegation struggles will not attract top players. We need to accept this and just support our team instead of hurling abuse and being negative.

The club have previously commented that they are trying to clear the debt and balance the books, hence the lack of 'Big' spending in the transfer window. If we can stay in the Premier League while doing this it will be a major step forward.

I believe our interest in Borini was down to two things. Firstly Gus knew the player and what he could bring. Secondly, to keep in line with the above balancing the books and not spending, the fee could be offset against the Henderson / Mignolet balance. This is why he waited until deadline day as it was the best financial deal for the club.

I read a good article that ran through the updated squad and compared to last season we have increased the quality in most areas. Yes I agree we are on CB/LB short and probably a striker with genuine pace but we now have a squad up until January.

To conclude then, stop all the negative comments, support your team and give the new players the chance to prove themselves.

Haway The Lads and FTM

Move on and forget Borini, Let him sit on the bench in the league cup games and the stands in the premiership games. £14 million was far too much for him anyway, I think he has a touch of the Benteners, thinking he is better than he is. Work on a target that wants to come and play in front of 40,000 plus crowds, there will be plenty out there. His twitter account says that he is pleased that he is still at Liverpool, must like the bench then

Gus and lee probably had the hardest job to do in the whole premiership, after a mass clear out they had to rebuild with the right players within a budget in a world of greedy players and there agents.
Yea things could have been better but I do think we are finally heading in the right direction. Still loads of work to do, whickham sign or be sold, other strikers need to score or be sold then replaced. Need more defenders, loan players will need to be bought or replaced(who was the last loan player we bought)?
Have no idea how we'll do this season, hopefully we can stay up and start playing some decent football

lets hope we land Jonas on a free after Valencia terminated his contract.

Agreed. Do you think he will?

I'm reasonably happy with our business bar the signing of a pacey goalscorer

But, I'm looking at how much we've spent compared to teams around us and that worries me, we have spent 12m and you see the likes of Swansea and Hull (and more) spending +30m
I hope we are saving for January or something

I'm a tad annoyed why Borini wasted over six weeks of our time. Poyet said it not because he doesn't want to come then what is it? Does his missus not want to? She has just been on twitter saying we don't have a clue, do you think we will ever find out? I know he demanded high wages but we could match his Liverpool wages and he would play week in week out. *sigh*

{Ed024's Note - He must be praying for a lot of injuries and suspensions at Liverpool.}
