ssn Sources say that striker Jeremie Lens and CB Nicolas Lombaerts are in talks with Sunderland over possible transfers.
Lombaerts would cost around £5M with Lens costing around £8.5M

It's both, we don't have that much to spend especially if the alverez issue goes inters way & we're out another 7.5mil or so, we need more competition for places as well as several new players in to fill problem areas, window has just opened so hopefully the other players coming in will settle quickly and we'll hit the ground running this season.

transfers will happen even in late August but we need players in now not later and so far the quality count isn't good . so far!! . leicster are willing to spend £12 million so why can't we bid these figures paticullay a striker as we need to score more goals to survive next season!

Matthews is a solid defender experience in Champions league and international football. and quite pacy and like s to get forward . the only problem is he's had a few injuries!

Dick Advocaat is using his Dutch connections to try and lure Wijnaldum to the SoL. Main competition seems to be from the toon at the moment.
I think he is just what we need to bolster our midfield.

Just before Buckley signed I said
"What a waste of money on a championship quality player"
He was one of our best today.
I take back what I said. He looked sharp and actually took players on and made things happen rather than what Johnson does.
We looked good today. Few defensive problems still need sorting though like Vergini, he needs to calm down a bit could have cost us the game today. Altidore showed signs of hope when he came on and looked powerful on the ball but I think we still need a pacey striker to run behind the defenders and make space.
All in all extremely happy with a point.

1.) Without Verginis two brilliant tackles today we probably would have lost. He played extremely well indeed in my eyes. Anyone else agree
2.) I would've rather signed anybody over Vergini. Today he was amazing! There were a couple lousy touches and poor passes, but for the most part he was awesome. Always in the right place, great tackles, great going forward, just an all around great performance. Keep up the good work!

All it looks like we need now is a quick central defender and a goalscorer that runs in behind, we've got too many who's job is to hold the ball up, Welbeck, Borini, Kalou?

I agree with you on Buckley, he was very bright, however I have to disagree with you on Vergini, he was class. He was a little bit clumsy sometimes but he done his defensive duties really well in my opinion and that challenge on RVP was awesome, I don't care what anyone says, never a penalty.

£2.5m fee agreed for Will Buckely from Brighton.
Not sure about this at all. Okay he has played under Poyet before but look how much game time Bridcutt has had. Hardly anything concrete. Plus is he the caliber of winger we need? Does this mean that Poyet is very unlikely to get Borini?
1.) I do agree about taking risks with unproven prem players. Who can forget McLean on the wing who could control the ball further than I could kick it!! However, I think this guy has got more to offer and at 2.5 mill is a decent buy.

ssn say Vergini completing a medical this morning after terms were agreed on another one year loan deal.
They will probably be unveilled together today sometime. Which leaves us to wonder who the next two in will be. Gus wanted 4 in by tomorrow. 2 pretty much done so who are the other two? Borini? Alonso? If not one of them, who else?

Have you seen what Poyet said? He said "The fans will be surprised" by one or two of our signings, maybe somebody they've kept so quiet we probably just said "No that transfer won't happen". Poyet also said that our finishing is the worst part of the team and that we need firepower and our attack with be bolstered in this window. Of course borini is first thought, yet many other strikers have been linked with us, and with Gus wanting Borini on the wing preferably, maybe there is an out and out striker coming in?

So Scocco has returned to Argentina with N. O. B.
Borini injured his shoulder against Roma yesterday. Typical if he signs. Whether or not he will I have no idea. The premier League is only a few weeks away and still only free transfers in. What is going on behind the scenes? We are hopeless when it comes to transfers.
1.) How long did we chase Scocco for? Must have been 18 months and he got on the pitch 8 times.
Its our defence that worries me though. We could be starting the season with Jones, Brown, OSea, Diakite and Roberge to choose from. That's a scary prospect.

If a manager wants a certain player to join then surely the board must consider the options. If the board were doing what di fanti did and buying anybody he wanted then Pulis is not the type to hang about at a club that doesn't respect him. Although yes, at some times, stuff like this is just over the top.

This is what I love about football. No Toon coming here and saying "It's bulls*it" or anything just accepting defeat and moving on. And let's all admit there's nothing better than a TyneWear Derby!
Lfcste : He has been arguably one of our best this season. Gutting to let him go in July. Great player, work ethic is second to none, always buzzing for a game. Can't praise him enough.
