This is how crap our team is so far.

Manone

Jones
Oshea
Brown
Diakite

Johnson
Gomez
Cartermole
Giaccerini

Wickham
Altidore

Now tell me without two center backs a left back a playmaker midfielder and a winger with pace and a top forward we won't be going down?

That is a team of a mixture of two mangers both whom
Nearly got us relegated. Looks poor quality with no pace.

Believable4 Unbelievable6

{Ed024's Note - Mannone and Midfield looks ok, but that's about it.}

Why doesn't anyone at this club come out and say what money is avaible? and what direction we are going! the club needs to give the supporters some confidence going in to the new season!

scary prospects. are we going to be the first team to be bottom at xmas to beat the drop for a second time?

Agree3 Disagree6

The club coming out and saying how much money they have is a monumentally stupid idea, as we've seen so many times before, the moment a team does that prices go up up up.

Agree4 Disagree0

That's what scares me ed. Midfield looks ok not good not brilliant just ok. Sorry but just ok means we might just be ok and stay up. Needs huge investment in quality. Johnson goes missing cattermole offers nothing going forward. Just hope and pray Gomez shocks us all and Giaccerini is now settled in. The back four and forwards worrie me a lot.

Gylfi Sidgersson is available at Spurs. I know it's not an immediate issue but I think he would improve the team. A better version of Larrson IMO.

Personally think we're mad not to be even attempting a bid for Caulker who was outstanding in a poor Cardiff team last year.

Agree3 Disagree2

Don't be frustrated guys, the reason for not declaring the amount of money available to spend on transfers is because: Clubs selling will hold out for more money if they know you have more cash available.

Ok let's get one thing straight, Gus isn't picking the players, he is only saying yes or no to having them, Lee Congerton is the one finding players to sign so why are we all mad at Gus?

This would be my team with players rumored;

GK: Vito
RB: Jones
CB: Zouma (loan)
CB: Caulker (5mil)
LB: Alonso (3mil + diakite)
CDM: Cattermole
CDM: Ki (6mil)
RAM: Johnson
CAM: Welbeck (11mil)
LAM: Giaccherini
ST: Sow (12mil)

Bench: Pantilmon, brown, oshea, gomez, rodwell (loan), altidore
This team would cost about 27mil
What does everyone think? Ed?

Believable5 Unbelievable5

{Ed024's Note - I think Gus has more input into the player selection than you outline above. Of the team you have above I don't think we'll see Caulker, Welbeck or Ki. Sow would be good but there are a few clubs interested. I'd be disappointed if we didn't get Alonso.}

Potential team with a few rumoured players for 2014/2015 season.

GK: Mannone
LB: Alonso (Rumoured)
CB: O'Shea
CB: Zouma (Rumoured but High Wage)
RB: Jones
CDM: Cattermole
CM: N'Diaye (Hopefully we try)
LM: Johnson
RM: E. Valencia (Rumoured)
ST: Wickham
ST: Jozy (Personally I think will do well) Or we could get Borini or keep Fletch)

What do you guys think of that team?

why pick a team of rumours?. pick a team of what we already have. then it looks scary

We've also been rumoured to have enquired about Aaron Lennon? Not like us, an actually top notch player, would fit in the team perfectly, we have also been offered Diego Capel for only £5 mil! Martin Kelly is also a possibility. Enner Valencia would look pretty on paper on a wing. Still shocked that we're favourites for Mr. Eto'o. Would be a great addition to the team but wages, just no.

Despite the new deal Larsson is linked with Borussia MonchenGladBach, any thoughts on this? Seb finally came to his abilities towards the end of the season. I doubt he would leave but what are your thoughts on this rumour?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed024's Note - I don't see him going anywhere - unless we have a younger model lined up.}

Why do you want Cabral to go? Do you know something we don't on why he was dropped from first team after looking good and loaned out?

a report from soccersweep says we are still after ki and still very much in the running to get him. don't kno if this is true and I don't kno if we really should go for him. last seasons great escape was when ki was injured. give catts a new and improved contract please

Believable3 Unbelievable2

No doubt about it Ki was a good player for us last season. But Catts is really proving himself worthy now, he helped us escape and is loyal to us. Maybe a slight loss for the club but Catts was the better in the end

Guy's, Guy's, Guys. Calm down.
If you remember at the end of the season a lot was made of Gus wanting more say in the transfer dealings of the club. Do you really think after seeking assurances (and getting them) he will then sit on his hands?
Last season we got a lot of players in but most were not up to the job. The club will be working hard in the background to get some quality in. Quality takes time.

I understand that BUT more are going out than coming in and the deadwood is still here!

Agree4 Disagree2

15 Jul 2014 18:23:29
Nonsense- there is no relationship between the time taken and the quality of signings- look how long it took to woo Fletcher (dismal record signing!) If anything, our record suggests that the later we wait the more likely we are to throw away money in a desperate bid to get anyone at all in.
Admittedly, Wickham could not be considered a proven premiership performer as yet- but he has shown the kind of impact that Fletcher and Altidore have wholly failed to deliver for a combined £20m, and he remains the best hope we have. If a larger club were sniffing around it might be understandable, but that he can even think about leaving when the options are the likes of Leicester or Southampton, both having only about half of our following, shows a general lack of ambition and motivation still pervades the club. Poyet said he was central to his plans- if he is allowed to leave it tells us that Poyet's plans don't matter, and we have to wonder if anyone has a plan at all. One month to go and half a team still needed if we hope to improve on last year's appalling start. Tine for action, not platitudes!

Agree4 Disagree3

{Ed024's Note - The players no one wants (just look at last close season) are easy and relatively quickly signed up. The better players take longer - they have bigger demands, they represent a larger investment so it takes longer.}

15 Jul 2014 19:06:18
The bigger the investment the longer it takes. That's why it takes longer to buy a house than a pint.

Flectcher(dismal record signing)? Double figures in his 1st season. Name another striker(apart from bent) that got double figures in the last 10years? injured most of last and still scored more than a lot of the terrible strikers we've had on our books.

Agree4 Disagree4

Last few seasons we have signed far to many players yet when you look at our squad it is looking rather thin.
Does any one know how many Bruce O'neill and PDC signed?
at a guess I would say 35, and that since 2009. A huge amount of cash has been wasted on below average players.
Back to this season, like me we are pulling our hair out at all the speculation but little action. It's worse when the skunks are spending big (for once) just up the road. Last season Gus made one bad mistake and that was Scocco. Hopefully the right players will sign on the dotted line and then only a few players will be needed each summer. Once again I ask the question of our youth team players coming through - where are they?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed024's Note - Since start 2009/10 season we have brought in 42 players and released/sold 59. The higher number released/sold is mainly due to the release of Academy players. Due to the number of 'undisclosed' fees its not easy to estimate how much has been spent and received but best guess is since 2009/10 season we've spent £140M and received £110M.}

30mil spend in 5 years is shocking for a top flight club. No wonder we have a paper thin squad with little quality. If short wonders why we are nearly relegated every season please look at that. Get 100mill out and get 5-6 quality players still would only amount to 26mil spend per season since 2009 which ain't that bad.

Agree1 Disagree1

15 Jul 2014 20:29:03
That's shocking the amount of players in and out! It must be the highest turnover of players in the league.
This can be only down to the ever downward spiral of manager comes in ships out a load of players, buys every player that passes on the a19. Gets sacked and it all begins again.
Hopefully we keep this manager for a good few seasons and he can build a team.

Whickham now stalling over a new deal. I can see a long hard season ahead

Believable7 Unbelievable6

{Ed024's Note - Am I the only one who doesn't think he would be a massive loss. I know he grabbed all the headlines but he is less consistent than Sessignon !!!!}

15 Jul 2014 09:18:04
Ed, I agree but will we be able to command at least £10m for him in the last year of his contract to get our money back? I think not so basically give him a pay rise for now to stop him leaving next season on a free!

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed024's Note - Good point - but I'm just not sure whether we'll be chucking more money away giving him a pay rise ! I suppose if we sign a decent striker we'll sell him if we don't we'll try to keep him.}

He did help pull us out of the preverbial but why oh why can we not go for better
5 goals in the time he played isn't a bad return but he did have a few games where he was missing and I for one would love sess back

Agree1 Disagree2

Yeh he wouldn't be great loss but its the hope he'll reach his potential in a Sunderland shirt that makes me want to keep him

Agree1 Disagree1

15 Jul 2014 17:58:43
Well ed i'd sell him if we got a big quality signing in but we havnt .i think good managers always buy first then sell there unwanted players!

& ki is available for around 3 mill what are we doing
