Cant help thinking we are a too thin upfront. Wickham, Fletcher, Altidore - on current form one of the weakest set of forwards in the EPL.

Thought for a minute the surprise was coming. . . but might as well have let the lad from Sky go home early and shown Cilla Black outside Seaham Hall eating an apple.

I'm glad Whickham didn't go, I reckon he's in for a good season. He's big, strong and will cause problems rather have him in team then playing against him

Am I wrong here or are we missing a trick regarding the twisting and whinging over Borini.
We already have a player who can fill the void on the books, who is not tall but is the most technically gifted player at the club. Who am I talking about? I tell you something this player may just save us a fortune.

Its sad a small club like Hull can sign and attract 2 quality strikers and a half decent defender and we as usual can't compete!

01 Sep 2014 20:48:52
Obviously I dinnat kna for sure but it seems mr borini has misled Gus! Why would Gus hang on so long for one player if he wasn't confident of getting him!! Anyway welcome to the life of a sunderland supporter! Getting worried no real quality striker or defender on the horizon????????

{Ed024's Note - Coates, Uraguay international, point to prove - he'll do well.}

{Ed024's Note - Everyone who comes to us on loan does well .....don't they ?}
Can alvarez play throught the middle?
Agree0
Disagree0
{Ed024's Note - Has played predominately on left can also play on right. Has not been used much in a central role.}
01 Sep 2014 21:34:47
Ed I see Q P R s bid to sign Borini is faltering! . we should put a late bid for £10 million in for him lol!
Agree0
Disagree0
{Ed024's Note - And an extra £3million for his Mrs as a convincer ?}
Borini ranked 30th in goal scoring table last season so not as convinced that all loan signings do that well - they just stand out in a below average team. Our problem now is that the bars just got lower. Reliance again will be on midfield for goals and that's a frightening formula. Didn't expect a surprise but hoped we would strengthen. Feel like the back office have been very poor.
Agree3
Disagree0
Yes which makes it harder to sign them the following season and we are back to square one.

Ed last season Ricky Alvarez was mainly used down the middle. Though he does play either wing either very well. Looks very good if videos are anything to go by, fairly pacey, can ride a challenge, very tricky unfortunately he looks very one footed and not the strongest of finishers.

{Ed024's Note - Alverez is an Argentine version of Borini ........}
Alvarez is more creative, Borini is more clinical.

{Ed024's Note - I'd agree with that.}
Only not as quick! Although a sweet left foot and pretty skillful!!
Agree2

01 Sep 2014 21:47:27
Only prob with Alverez is he's not used to the Premier league and is slow but highly skillfull and should create chances for us. We just need someone competent to convert them!
Agree3
Disagree0
Borini is a player who seems to thrive in the big games. It seems like he had no intention of going to QPR otherwise he would have travelled down there at least. Let's hope he was motoring this way while his agent was talking to Arry & co.

Both borini and welbeck deals look like their off at qpr and arsenal respectively. I'd rather have welbeck if we still have a choice or chance!
Believable3
Unbelievable0
{Ed024's Note - I'd take either......but we'll get neither.}
01 Sep 2014 20:39:08
We need a striker, ours aren't up to it
We need another centre back, from what Iv seen of Coates he is slow and not brilliant at defending
Getting rid of Roberge and Diakite is shooting ourselves in the foot we already had little cover at the back now we have even less!
Believable1
Unbelievable2
{Ed024's Note - Coates isn't the quickest but he's very comfortable on the ball. Will fit into Poyets system really well. Diakite may as well have not been in the squad so I see this more of a straight swap Coates for Roberge.}
01 Sep 2014 18:22:36
We need a good centre back in and we need a forward in
Van Dijk, Alderweireld or anyone else we've been linked with seems dead and I haven't heard a striker linked since Kalou
Typical Sunderland
Believable3
Unbelievable1
{Ed024's Note - Coates and Alverez, cant see anyone other than those two, coming in now. Will leave us light up front.}
01 Sep 2014 19:04:23
Nothing has been confirmed yet but can any true SAFC supporter tell me if Borini does sign for QPR you will support him if he appears at the SOL. The man isn't worthy of any recognition. While I, m on can anyone educate me in the matters of football, Colback nurtured from the age of 8 at the AOL goes to Newcastle plays two games in the domestic fixtures and is picked for England!!!?

What is it about SAFC that we just can't seem to get our targets over the line. Premier league club, Great stadium, Great training facilities, 40,000 fans at home games, fantastic travelling fans. . must be the canteen Dodgey
Believable6
Unbelievable3
Maxed wage bill, financial fair play rules etc etc. We have pretty big overheads what with our stadium, two training grounds, going to be a good few seasons before we can right the ship & get sorted properly.
I just hope we stay up long enough to get it done & we don't just change managers again in a few months and screw up any chance of getting our team in any sort of order.
Agree4

TWO training grounds?
Where is the other then?
Agree0

Sorry m8 that's rubbish FFP rule was might for clubs with high debt like QPR 85 mil in debt so that the clubs don't go bust like Portsmouth harry at it again can't manage for peanuts just keeps on buying
Agree1

Borini to q, p, r for 10 million, what a joke, we offered more and still not get him , there's something wrong here
Agree5
Disagree0
It's meant for all clubs, if you don't stay within a certain level of income / outlay you get punished, and we do technically have a large debt in the form of a free loan form short that got us out of debt when he took over, that has to be paid back when he leaves.
The third place is split between where we played our friendlies & the girls place in hetton.
Agree1
Disagree0
The ground at Hetton is owned and operated by Eppleton FC. Sunderland rent the ground for reserve and ladies games. It is licenced as a sports stadium not a training ground.

Another centre back will join after Coates, Celtic are blocking Van Dijk's transfer, if he wanted to move he will put a transfer request in

01 Sep 2014 10:59:04
So we are linked with four CB's.
Richards - Off to Fiorentina (Pictures of him arriving at Florence airport)
Van Dijk - Celtic state he is not being sold
Alderweireld - At Southampton now having talks
This only leaves us Coates from Liverpool on a loan so really struggling to strengthen our defence. unless of course the club have other players in their back pocket that they have managed to keep out of the press!
Believable9
Unbelievable1
So here we go again 2 players in that's not enough we don't score enough goals going to be a long season again where is this striker!! Gus you said you going to be surprised lol why

01 Sep 2014 19:54:38
Agree Mr Mackem surely the priority is a striker? its obvious where we are struggling . in front of goal!. I can see it the supporters can see it my dog can see it WHY can't the management see it??

Ed002's Note - Sunderland would be looking at both players with a view to a loan but would not expect to have both on loan (if that makes sense)
Ed002's Note - If one is a loan with an agreement to buy at the end then that is within the rules. }
This. is bit of info was given by the most reliable ed on our site
the two players here being Coates and Borini
Believable2
Unbelievable0
{Ed002's Note - You might also want my opinion on the matter which is that Borini won't move to Sunderland - and that they will not chase him. The kid wants to stay at Liverpool but the club are looking to off load him and others today. Some sort of deal in Italy seems more likely for him. Alvarez looks far more likely. Coates rejected an exchange to Italy, is of interest to Sunderland, and knows he has no Liverpool future. They would like to sell but a loan to Sunderland resolves their immediate issues. With Gus Poyet as manager this might be a good deal for Sunderland and something which I think will happen.}
Ed you didn't feel offended that I posted your replies on this page did you?

{Ed002's Note - Of course not.}
01 Sep 2014 11:07:55
Rodgers told Borini he has no future at Liverpool so I would leave him to rot!
He was great for us last season but has made it clear he does not want to join us on a permanent deal. We should have withdrawn the offer a month ago and moved on!
