Confirmed Sunderland have put a bid in for Jordan Mutch from Cardiff. Scored 7 goals last season 22years old 6ft2 midfielder who is British and has pace. Looks like poyet saying he wants British players with premiere league experience is coming true.

Not sure about Mutch, surely we can get better than him. i'd rather have craig Noone than him. I see Gus has extended his contract which i'm delighted about. Everything he says makes sense and its about time we backed a good young manager. Its time now to build a strong squad. I think jones will be a good addition and ids like to see Alonso bought permenantly as the other full back. In the middle why not try for Caulker and Micah Richards?
Midfield is a little tricky I think. Do we keep jonno or sell him on. I think he's a good player but in spells, but is there anyone better that would come to Sunderland. I think we will see the best if Giacherinni (sorry spelling lol) next season. Catts proved how valuable he is to the team so he has to stay in my opinion. gus likes Bridcutt but the jury is out on him, I wasnt too impressed by him to be honest so I think we need 2 new centre midfielders one who backs the play up moves us forward and has an eye for a goal. and the other who can tackle and pass maybe a Rodwell? up front is where we need a major facelift. I don't know who has kidnapped Steven Fletcher but can we have him back next year please!. but all joking aside he looks like he has no interest in playing for Sunderland so I would get shot. Wickham started to show what he is capable of, hope its not a flash in the pan but I would keep him. that leaves Graham and Altidore. these guys are much the same chase all day but won't get double figures. so i'd say 3 new strikers crazy I know but when you push for top ten you need to score on a regular basis so i'd plump for demba ba jordan rhodes and try to bring borini back as Liverpool have bigger names in mind. we may be suprised by a few we still have on our books. maybe cabral and el hadji ba may come good. maybe mavrias needed a season to adjust, maybe whatmore is what we need up front, who knows but at least with Gus firmly on board I believe a top ten finish and attractive football is a possibility

Well if Gus continues to buy British players then caulker Richards welbeck and even players like Zaha Ince and cleverly will no doubt hit the rumour mill soon. Anyone think Campbell might come back? For 1mil it's worth a punt for RW cover

Mutch would be a good signing. Like Billy Jones he was well rated as a youth player and showed last season he can not only cope with Premier League but seems to have an attitude, like Cattermole that says "let's have a go". He also has an eye for a goal, which we need from midfield.

Talk sport are saying SAFC are in advanced talks to sign David Villa. He wants to finish is football career in the EPL and is willing to take a big pay cut for the move to happen. QPR are also interested in him. Would be a good signing will score goals and it's a big name to attract

Believable7 Unbelievable20

Mate, we aren't getting him

We are sunderland for Christ sake
Poyet will be god to me if he pulls this off

Agree9 Disagree6

Just reporting what talk radio have said. It will be a free transfer if it happens so why not offer him 100k a week. Big name like that will attract other well known names. Plus I think everyone will folk to the stadium of light every week to see him play for the club. Would make financial sence aswell getting that extra 5-10k fans a week in.

Hearing huge rumours that he's about to sign for a club in USA, (I think New York)

Agree5 Disagree0

David Villa was a great striker, but he had a bad injury and like Michael Owen before him he is not the same player. He is still probably better than what we have, but I would not take the risk on him.

Also joining for Sunderland this week will be Lionel Messi, Miley Cyrus and Hulk Hogan.

Nah, I'd let this one go mate. aha

Agree5 Disagree2

{Ed024's Note - Don't be ridiculous .......Hulk Hogan is to old......Miley Cyrus on the other hand, is just coming into her prime.}

I thought it only said we made an enquiry about him I didn't know we were in advanced talks with him but I doubt we would get him, I would love him here he would possibily help young Spanish players come here too so I'm keeping my hopes up.

Billy jones has joined SAFC on a free signing a 4 year contract. Will be joining from July 1st. Decent back up at RB on a free. Hope we are going to sign some bigger names than this though.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

Yeah agree with that comment we need a big name signing especially a striker!. Jones is a solid speedy attacking right back but I remember last season there was too many bosman free signings and in this game you need quality and that costs!

Agree2 Disagree2

We do not need big name players. We need good players who can get us to the next stage, which is top ten. then we might attract the bigger names, but big names with big salaries and egos will only go to top six teams. Let's have steady progress with more attractive style and try to bring through more from the youth side and then keep them.

Agree4 Disagree0

Well we needed a right back, with Vergini only being a maybe now (from what Poyet said about him not knowing if he had other offers). To be honest big name or no, as long as they do the job, that'll do me just fine.

Agree0 Disagree1

Agree with you on the youth point keith42 we definatly need to bring more through the academy and also give players like young Whatmore more playing time on the field!
