Well apparently he doesn't want to join us,,,its all very depressing perhaps the way pre season friendlies are going that Gus is going to play the youngsters at West Brom lol . don't know why players just don't want to come here!. we seem to be linked with loads of players lots of near signings then nothing!

I thought I wold look into abcsafc's post regarding Rodríguez signing.
I went onto a Spanish newspaper and found this:

http://www.thelocal. es/20140722/real-madrid-sign-world-cup-star-james-rodriguez

This was the only article I could find with the name Rodríguez. Wrong Rodríguez!
So what reports absafc?
This transfer window is turning into yet another drawn out saga which will result in one or more panic buys like Graham! Hello relegation battle again!
Why is it this happens every year?

Agree2 Disagree1

What?
The Rodrigues rumours started in Spain and Poyet has said its true, it's money problems, but I can't think he'd be on that high wages (Atletico have low wages and he isn't even a first team regular) are the board being cheap?

Agree0 Disagree0

They signed him on a free however, which makes a big difference with the players contract. See recent Swansea free transfer of Gomis as example of this. or Sol Campbell on six figures a week when at Arsenal. Free transfers change wages.

I have no idea what's going on at SAFC what the board is doing. All I know is our squad is worse off than last year with fewer players and we stayed up by the skin of our teeth. Would have thought poyet would have been told he can sign who he wants and how much he can spend before he signed a new contract. We get knocked back by Borini who to be fair is not a top player and now Rodregez deal is off after his family in ururgay wanted the move to happen so it must be a deal could not be reached between the clubs. Maybe the board wouldn't play 7mil for a 29year old or his wages who knows. But what is for sure is we can't attract good players unless we pay over the odds which this club won't do so how can we possibly do anything but try and stay up again. Unless we uncover a Benteke like villa did it's not going to be a good season and can see poyet not putting up with it much longer.

Lets put things in perspective here. Sunderland are in far better shape than last season because we have a stable manager and director of football and we have players in the squad with good premier league experience, we have also learned a heck of a lot from last seasons rollercoaster. Weve brought in more than a lot of teams and there will be more to come whether its now or closer to transfer deadline. Take Hull City for example, Bruce doing v good job and everyone happy with there transfer activity but is Maguire better than Brown, nope. Is Robertson better than Van Aanholt probably not. Is livermore better than Cattermole, debateable. Is Ince better than Johnson, nope. Is Snodgrass better than giaccherini, nope. So should we have gone in for these players, nope. I don't expect anything like the dicing with death as was last season but are we going to set the world on fire, course not but better quality of football, without a doubt. New signings will follow, have some faith in the management team. I think a lot of you will be pleasantly surprised. unless your expectations are ridiculous like top 6.

Mind suprisingly we haven't (as yet ) signed any of the 5 allowed loan players so perhaps that will happen soon but we need to pay top dollar if we want quality in permanant signings!

Agree0 Disagree1

The thing is lemon chops we need a squad of players with premier league experience not just first 11!! If one of those players you mentioned above gets injured or suspended we have some serious problems.

I don't disagree but I fully expect some more players to come through the door even if it has taken longer than expected, I just wouldn't be fooled by some of the transfer activity of other clubs. West Ham paid 12m for a player who had a great world cup but had any of us heard of him prior? Smacks of something we would do last summer (minus 11.75m of course). I suppose I can see why as passionate sunderland fans people get a little panicked but I genuinely think there's far more reason to feel positive about the club than negative in comparison to the last 6 or 7 years. Thoroughly enjoyed watching us at times in the second half of last season (with a few major wobbles).

Pantilimon publicly saying relegation battle last season shouldn't keep players from coming to SAFC. I wonder if that has anything to do with the Rodriguez deal. ?

Luis pedro cavanda is another name to put into the pot

Believable3 Unbelievable2

So would that mean no Vergini?

Agree1 Disagree0

I'm guessing if we sign Cavanda on the right then Vergini will be brought in for CB since Gus has said he can do both.

acc to sky italia we are close to signing luis pedro cavanda (right back) 23yr old belgium from lazio

Believable2 Unbelievable3

Sunderland and lazio are close to an agreement for right back luis pedro cavanda

Believable4 Unbelievable1

29 Jul 2014 14:09:54
So Rodriguez is off. Who's next on the list?

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Sunderland are closing in on Lazio right-back Luis Pedro Cavanda, who does not fit into the plans of new coach Stefano Pioli. The 23-year-old Belgian has been targeted by Sunderland boss Gus Poyet, who is keen to take him to the Stadium of Light this summer, according to Sky Sport Italia.

Safc in negotiations over a striker! Don't get to exited it's max clayton from Crewe

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Good signing, but he seems a ways off from making starting XI. Seems there should be more pressing matters.

Agree1 Disagree2

So we didn't sign a top quality international champions league/league winning player…but it's ok, we're gunna sign a player from Crewe (who can't get a new contract)

Agree4 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - he was offered a new contract and turned it down! Clayton has been earmarked as one of the top young prospects in English football since he was about 13. His brother Harry got a contract purely to keep the lad happy at one point. If he gets the right coaching, you have a gem there. It is just pure ignorance on your part to whine about the signing.}

How many fu*king future stars and gems and the next big thing ever turn out the way they expected
Take Mavrias for example,

And even if we have a FUTURE gem, that's not what we need, we aren't Man U, we need quality now! We have a relegation season staring us in the face

Agree4 Disagree4

29 Jul 2014 22:50:56
Is it ignorant or is it fans sick of hearing "it's one for the future"
Fans love seeing a young player come through into the 1st team but our track record is not good. In the last few seasons we've had a lot of young players realised, or if they do make it to the 1st team there sold on or let contracts run out. Wickham still not renewed his contract yet. So forgive us for not getting to exited

Agree2 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - it is ignorant to whine like it is some 40 year old coming for a big payday. No wonder no kids come through with the attitude you two are showing! They have no hope with whiners like you on their back before they even kick a ball for the team. No wonder English football is such a state with the attitude of the whiney, want it all now fans! You aren't a rich club, Sunderland are not even seen as a big club by players, you are also based in an area that is seen as unattractive to them. The only way the club will ever be able to progress is to target young, hungry players and give them a shot. I don't mean the way Wickham was 'given a shot' out of sheer desperation after being ignored for years while lazy drunken wasters like Fletcher keep them out of the team. I mean a real chance, like Raheem Sterling got at Liverpool or Luke Shaw at Southampton. Both had poor patches in their first season, but both clubs stood by them and it paid off, in different ways. It really annoys me this attitude towards youth footballers in the UK. No one has any patience with them! It seems everyone has forgotten how Ian Rush was so poor for Liverpool in his first 3 years that it lead to the removal of the scout who brought him to the club. He didn't end up so bad. There are umpteen examples similar to that, but still people don't want to bother because they would rather have some big name player who is ready now. This isn't the Martin O'Neill era, when coaching was non-existent and anyone under 35 was considered a kid, this is Poyet. Maybe you should all give him a chance to see if he is capable of bringing through some younger players?}

29 Jul 2014 23:02:04
Though it has been Sunderland's young players that have being playing well in pre season. Mandron scoring again tonight.

Agree0 Disagree0

But we need players that can do it now!
Fair enough, give the kid a shot, but we need something better!

Agree1 Disagree0

I live near crewe and my mrs brother played with max clayton and nick Powell and clayton is talked about being better than nick powell so this could be a really good signing for the club

Agree0 Disagree0

The BPL gives youngsters way more of a chance than any other league in Europe. That's why you can mention names like Sterling and Rooney in your argument. And it's great to have investments for the future, I wish we gotten a couple at CB a few years ago. But how long is a "future star" going to stay with a club that gets relegated? How long before the board cashes in on him after he's been turned into a better player? As fans we want what's best for the club, but we also want entertaining football and the chance to say we're in the top flight. A future star is a gamble, we need a lock right now. There are less than 3 weeks left before the season starts and we're 5-7 players short of where we need to be. Sign the kid, but also get someone for the now.

Agree0 Disagree1

I'm not whining about the kids I'm unhappy at the way the young players are treated by our past managers and the board. As I said the fans love to see the young players come through. Yes it's happening at other clubs but not ours, that's why we're not getting excited over it.
I do believe in Gus and think given the chance he'll build a good squad of player but as all managers his hands are tied.
Wickham will probably leave for nothing or will have a good start to the season and get sold in January to the first cheque that gets waved in front of the boards noses.
Think it's ignorant of you to think it's the fans that make or break a player when it's managers and boards that make the decisions. What team do you support ed? Must be a so called big club that's has a great youth policy and you've been so happy with all there signings

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is not ignorant, it is the truth that kids have to be taken out of teams because of the fans. It is why Sunderland got Borini on loan last season, because the Liverpool fans got on his back through no fault of his own. It is ridiculous that fans give them grief when they are kids. Kids are extremely inconsistent, it comes with a lack of experience. As for who I support, it is Liverpool, and we had our own problems in recent years with trying to clinch signings due to a lack of Champions League football.}

Everyone loves as young, hungry player with potential- but I think the lads above are just stating our obvious lack of firepower, let just hope the board have one eye on the present aswell as the future.

We have no idea why the deal is off, or even if it was actually on! All we know for definite is Poyet wanted him. Some websites / papers reported that he was close to signing but this could all have been made up once Gus said he liked him.

If it was on the failure could be stupid wage demands or the player just saying no to the North East of England. Keep in mind he played at the World Cup and for Athletico Madrid!

Stop slagging off the club you allegedly support!!!

Agree4 Disagree1

If the guy doesn't want to sign a bit like borini then we should move on the last thing we want is signings whos heart are not in the club

Agree2 Disagree1

The echo and chronicle both reporting it

Agree2 Disagree0

Why do Congerton and Byrne need to be shot? Who knows the reasons why things have broken down; it was a surprise that a proven international playing for the La Liga champions would even consider Sunderland.

Sounds like we had a look, tried and it now might not be right for all parties; move on.
