Rose just signed extended terms with spurs.
That must mean he is on his way
Extended terms=larger fee.

GNSAFC, Ellis may not spend an awful lot of money compared to others but he ain't stupid, If Congerton and Gus fell out, whos he going to rid off. The guy who is failing to secure enough signings, or the one who performed a miracle last season, got us to the final, and is trying to give us hope for signings.

As I said it was a rumour but look at it from the other side. Gus not getting his own way so spits dummy out and leaves. And which club did his son sign for again?

Well somethings not right!. even the barcodes up the road who have the tightest chairman in the Premiership don't seem to have the transfer problems we have! eiethr we aren't offering the money or wages or the players don't want to come here! I think theway some of the deal have been done are a shambles questions need to be asked at the highest level and why hasn't Short come out to reassure supporters what our policy is how much money is avaible etc. but we've heard nothing!

Mind I bet there's been some heated discussions between the two why we aren't signing players and that responsibilty lies at the door of Congerton!

Agree1 Disagree7

I think it will be Mr Poyet. If you are a responsible person you don't come out and say you are desperate for players. All Mr Poyet has done is tell the football world they can charge what they like for a player we are interested in. If you tell your local shop you are desperate for an item I think you will find yourself paying over the odds!!

As I said it is only a rumour that I have heard from corporate at the club.

To play devils advocate though, if Gus has asked for players, Congerton is failing to sign them and there is a dislike anyway, he could spit his dummy out and leave. Remind me again which club his son signed for?

I know its not allowed but I think some negative people on here need to read The Roker Reports recent post about Congerton, its a good read. The barcodes also have their house in order now which is what Ellis is striving to do so they can afford to go an pay for decent people, they seem to have no relegation worries every season for little money, if a target costs too much they don't pay and move on.

I agree that was an excellent article. Well thought out with good content!

So are you saying after been given £70+ million for last season we can't spend some of that on players to strenthen the team that by the skin of our teeth escaped relegation? don't get me wrong I think Poyet is the right manager but i'm wondering what going on behind closed doors!. I hope you are right but at the end of the day results goals and points will tell us all. negative or postive!

Well looks like the vergini deal will be done shortly. Atsu and cavanda were never real targets apparently, however gus says he wants four signings. I'm guessing three are vergini, borini and Alonso, any guesses on the fourth? Could the Rodriguez deal off reports be exaggerated?

Believable5 Unbelievable1

Probably Rodwell on loan deal I hope. I wonder what JCFulwell thinks. He normally gets things rite!!!!

i think Vergini would be a welcome signing as at right back he was outstanding!. I see Everton spent £28 million on aplayer so why can't we spend big money on a player (apart from the Borini bid )we need to spend big for quality and in the striker dept that needs to be done!

Mite be tuff getting Rodwell, there wil bee meny teems inn four him. Hope wee do though.
There will be at least a couple of signings other than the players we had on loan last season. Unfortunately my sauce doesn't know either.

Agree1 Disagree5

JCFULWELL I guess talking to kitchen condiments adds flavour to your life but obviously has no value to SAFC transfer forums, as you point out.

{Ed024's Note - I'm not sure about that .......my bottle of Sarsons has told me we still have a chance of Borini !}

I'm trying to work out the pieces of the jigsaw.

The rumours are that we are close to getting Cavanda, a RB who can fill in at LB. That would probably leave us needing two CBs (assuming Diakite and Roberge are moved on), possibly one who could play at FB also.

Zouma is out of the reckoning if we are getting Atsu on loan from Chelsea (max one player on loan from an EPL side). Van Dijk has been mentioned but the money is on him going to Southampton. I assume Vergini has to be a candidate for the CB/FB role.

In midfield, I would say we need two CMs (assuming N'Diaye and Cabral go). Jack Rodwell is the only name I've heard for one of these roles so is there anyone else or could one of N'Diaye or Cabral take that second spot?

Then it is apparent Gus is keen on a LW having pursued Rodriguez and now Atsu. With Giaccherini already on the left and the still possible arrival of Borini who can play there, does that leave us unbalanced or can we assume one of those three aren't in the current thinking?

If Borini does come in, could one of the three play RW or is there someone else waiting in the wings (sorry!)?

So where does that leave us:

GK: Mannone
GK: Pantilimon
GK: Pickford?

RB: Jones
RB/CB: Vergini?
CB: Brown
CB: O'Shea
CB: (van Dijk?)
LB: van Aanholt
LB: Cavanda

CM: Cattermole
CM: Bridcutt
CM: N'Diaye / Cabral?
CM: (Rodwell?)
CM: Larsson
CM: Gomez

LW: Atsu?
LW: Giaccherini
LW/CF: Borini
RW: Johnson
CF: Fletcher
CF: Altidore
CF: Wickham

Selected others: Diakite (out?), Roberge (out?), Mavrias, Ba, Moberg-Karlsson (out?), Whatmore, Graham (out?)

Does that look a strong enough squad? I think so but the big question marks are over two of the key roles; van Dijk and Rodwell.

Maybe we are not as far away as some are thinking?

Believable6 Unbelievable0

I agree with some of the thingd you have pointed out yet some players I think may be given more of a chance by Gus. Watmore for example, has shown bags of talent and a real desire to try and break into the first team. Alfie I think will also try and get more gametime under Gus so I think he may stay.

But here is where I get confused. All the teams around us are building on what they had last season, yet with us what we are doing is chasing down the loanees we had and trying to make them permanent, good move yes, but eventually we will end up with the exact same team that struggled last season bar the exceptions of those who have moved on like Gardner and Bardsley. Personally I feel that maybe after PDC's mad reign of terror in the transfer market, that we are being overly safe about these transfers. Yet I am glad that we aren't spending big on mediocre players again, always a start.

Whether we will get Rodwell or this player or that player needs tp be sorted within a week as Gus said to really work with what he has. West Brom is right around the corner and we need to act fast if we are to try and stay away from the drop again.

i can understand the loan delays as clubs look at players during pre season matches before loaning the surplus ones out so I expect well fill our loan quota later rather than earlier!

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't understand all the panic tbh but this squad only looks good if we make all the signings that you've noted. without them I don't feel our squad has improved from last year
