I would love to see Townsend, Lennon or salah come in. We need pace, the only attacker we have that can get in behind is Buckley but his end product is poor, I would even consider playing PVA further up to utilise his pace

I really like Johnson, great on the ball etc but he has no pace at all, I would consider playing him through the middle because he is out of the game too much on the wing and the best wingers have pace and he doesn't

I like the sound of 433 away from home and would even try 4231 at home where the central striker (fletcher or Wickham) is supported by 3 attacking mid field ( Alvarez, larson, Johnston) with 2 holding mid field ( cattermole, rodwell) and 4 across the back ( VanArnholt, brown, Oshey, Riviellier).
Rodwell gets a slot because he can score from set plays

In an ideal world I would replace brown with a pacey centre half ( john Brooks - Hertha berlin- ) and would love to see Salah from Chelsea out on the left and some new blood to help our 'strike force' up front - although the change in personnel might not be possible - the change in formation is within Gus's gift.

I agree. I have been advocating Rodwell and Cattermole playing together as holding midfielders for some time. Also I am old fashioned (and old) in that I like my defenders to defend and my forwards to attack.

At home I would play 4 3 3 away I would play 3 6 1 but having the players to do this is another thing

can anyone help

I want to know what our best team and our best formation is so I can let Gus Know because I don't think he has worked it out yet.
For me 4-3-3 was what we played at the end of last season and it worked well (though we didn't have Wickham as a left winger but we did have Johnston out on the right - from where he scored for us - as did Wickham when playing central ). Bridcutt was injured so couldn't get on the pitch - the only saving grace from the liverpool game is that he will be suspended for the next game so won't be on the pitch (we might have a chance - though not in our present formation)
we look shocking playing 4-1-4-1 and don't ever look like a threat yet Gus insists on playing this formation - so when he is talking about being flexible when on the field - I think he needs to look in the mirror because our current combination of formation and players is not acceptable - and as such I do not lay the blame squarely on the players - I also lay a significant portion at Poyet's inflexibility and his persistence with players playing out of position and / or who are not good enough to fulfill the role in the premiership.

How will let him know

Go more attacking, and tell him to stop playing Gomez and tell the fullbacks to attack more

We are going to miss out on some steals if we don't shape ourselves.

Smaller clubs than us looking at players that we should be going in for.

There is so much wrong with sunderland

Gus, I honestly feel sorry for him, he has such a sh*t club to work with and try get his ideas across and he doesn't even get to choose specifically who he wants, he gets 2 or 3 names and he picks the one he can work with. Our players aren't adaptable, they only know one way to play and that lower league standard, look at Southampton, one or two seasons back they were average at best but their players are adaptable, they adapted to 2 great coaches, pochetinno and finished 8th, then Koeman who are now fighting for 3rd!! There is only one player who has always been fantastic, Tadic. The rest have been made great by their coaches and work ethic, if Gus was at Southampton it would be the same story, he knows football but the players don't. There's a reason our best player of the past few seasons has been the goalie because they don't need to adapt. The background staff is the biggest problem, they don't make good decisions, eg transfers, they constantly sack the manager. For Gus to truely have his influence he needs backing, he needs the players he wants for them to play his style otherwise we are completely fu*ked, I'm not a business man but god, they don't know how to run a football club. Yesterday proved it, worst Iv seen for a long time, no fight, no quality. That has probably drove a fair few SAFC fans to alcoholism. Yes Gus needs to take some responsibility, maybe a shift in formation, realise who is fuc*king sh*t and needs to be dropped indefinitely and play to our CURRENT strengths however little there may be

Now for the players

Goalie-SORTED
Centre backs, need a change for Brown, he's past it, always has a mistake in him but not an immediate concern
Fullbacks-one of only positions I'm content with (love PVA)
centre mids- love Catts and Larsson, only ones with fight in them, need a creator though - I DESPISE GOMEZ WITH A PASSION, he might as well play for the opposition, our current crop is suited to counter attacking, hence why we are so bad at home. Everytime we are in a good position or have a chance he completely fu*ks it all up by slowing everything right down and kills off any chance, our forwards have no pace or movement to suit Gomez's play and we lose the ball, he also can't tackle, problem as well when we need everyone to be able to defend
Wingers-Giacc, Alvarez, Johno, our most creative players, but no one will give them the opportunity to show this, there is also a lack off pace between them, as is in the whole team
Forwards-. you know. A mix between they can't do their job and that others don't give them chances

This January is vitally important
We need a creative pacey player to run in behing and A…GOD. DAMN. GOALSCORER

Gus knows this but he will not be backed
