Ed what's your thoughts on this? Today was a very important win for us it was a massive game 10 times more important to the club than the bolton game yet after the bolton game this page was full of people wanting mon sacked no one on here giving him any praise today people saying we have made no progress under him am I right in thinking we have scored 3 or more in 5 games this season twice away from home people doubting players he wants to buy 3 best players today his signings good to see aj on left and larsson on the right come on people let's start showing a positive attitude towards mon and what he wants to do he knows what he wants to acheive more importantly he knows how to do it would also like to say ndayie look a promising player hope he can keep it up......alex be safc {Ed024's Note - There's no arguing with the facts - I think that the majority of fans are happy with MON. His judgement on Fletcher was spot on , Johnson after a slow start is starting to deliver, too early to say on Ndayie but he's made a promising start. A year ago if the fans were told Sunderland would be 11th I think we all would have taken it. The lack of consistancy has been the biggest issue for MON - we crush West Ham, and have a great away win at Wigan scoring 3 in each game, yet inbetween those games cant beat a champioship side or even score against them.!}

We could and should have scored 6 today ...with another decent striker well be aforce !

we were class first half, n'diaye is quality and looked like he could be the one to control the midfield for us, as for the toontanic saying forever in our shadows they're too far behind us to be in ours haha. safc93

Believable7 Unbelievable1

Well said, really should have been 1-4 (twice).
So, here we sit, 6 points off our best ever Premiership finish, with 15 games and 45 points to play for, 12 days of the transfer window still open and a chairman who shares his managers ambition.
Any Martin O'Neill knockers care to comment ? {Ed024's Note - Not sure if I follow your argument - an extra 6 points today would put Sunderland 9th, our best Prem League finish is 7th. That said, your other points are well made.}

Agree4 Disagree1

I think you must be confused. Best finish was 7th with 58 points in 99/00. In fact, after 23 games last year we were 8th with 30 points, so actually we are doing less well so far than last year.
It is not knocking O'Neill to point out that thus far he has made no progress on last season, it is simply stating the facts. Of course we might hope for more than 17 points from the remaining 15 games, so some progress remains a possibility, but this is a hope rather than an achievement at the moment.

Agree2 Disagree0

Your're quite right ed, soz, a little ambiguous i agree.
my point is we are only 6 points off 7th place, our best ever premier league finish with just under half a season to go.
it is this that i offer up tp the mon knockers for comment.

Agree2 Disagree0

To Statto:
How interesting. And if we chalked off Fletcher's goals we'd be third bottom blah blah blah.
Momentum suggests that 17 points from 15 games is entirely possible - here's to progress eh !
Sir Alex and Man U
Season '86-'87 11th
Season '87-'88 2nd
Season '88-'89 11th
Season '89-'90 13th
'Lets sack him'
Blah blah blah

Agree3 Disagree0

To the sheep
I think you the phrase you are looking for is Baah baah baah But we would need to pick up 31 points from the remaining games to beat the highest points total- so not much chance there- and I don't think anyone would say Reid was a better manager than O'Neill, whatever his limitations. The point is that while stats don't tell the whole story, you can't claim we are riding high when all the evidence suggests that we are just reaching the peaks of ordinary.

Agree0 Disagree0

To the Black & White sheep :

Whoever claimed we were riding high ?

MONK (noun) A person who practices religious learning, living either alone or with any other number of monks.
alt.
MONK (acronym) A Martin O'Neill knocker. A person who constantly practices undermining mild mannered, learned, ambitious Norhern Irish football managers, living either alone or with any other number of monks. Techniques include writings which contain narrow time frame statistical analysis, as uninteresting as they are irrelevent being based on a 13 month period spread over two seasons.
The style of such writings can often be found on the back sports page of a Newcastle based morning daily usually in a tall, narrow column on the right hand side due glaring editorial bias.

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaah !

Agree4 Disagree1

If we win every game between now and May we will still have seen some of the most clueless performances in red and white this season. We all want to see the team and O'Neill do well, but some of us don't think that a couple of wins compensates for the tripe served up so frequently over the past year, and notice that we have often looked better when he has not been able to pick the side he prefers, which suggests he still does not know what his best team is. So grow up, not everyone who has been critical of the performance so far is a Newcastle supporter- or cares at all how they are doing. If you want to defend O'Neill's record, do it by looking at that record, not into your navel.

Anyhow, tiring in the second half aside, what a cracking full debut for Alfie. Love the way he want's the ball, love the way he looks a box to box player, loved that cross. Get in !!

Believable6 Unbelievable0

In the words of Burt Bacherach, with the voice of Ms.Black.....
'What's it all about.............Alfieeeeee'!

He looks strong mobile and very quick we've missed that mobilty in midfield since Jordan Henderson left !

But an interview he gave while he was still a Watford player has surfaced in which Graham is asked who he would support if his beloved Newcastle United ceased to exist.

He responded: “Put it this way. I would stay as far away from Sunderland as I could.

It would probably have to be Gateshead.
{Ed024's Note - This is fairly common knowledge, he will be aware that if he does sign for us and doesn't do well the boo boys will be straight on him. I think he'll take the safe option and go to Norwich.}

Pleased MON says he has 'several irons in the fire' for upfront, not just Graham, but am equally if not more concerned about defence. Bards not the same since injury, Rose likely to return after loan and left with several old crocks at centre half. Is it enough for rest of season? Surely there is monumental rebuilding needed.

Ed can I clarify that when I said drop mclean I don't want downing he is garbage. Simply play johnson( a left footer) on the left wing so he can put in crosses instead of having to turn back all the time ( the odd goal every 15 games cutting in on his left doesn't justify playing him on right) on the right either play larsson or try sess with his pace and trickery mcclean cannot cross his legs at the moment never mind the ball. Mad max

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Would give it a go max but I don't see how last season mclean was as good a crosser of the ball we have had since johnson and summerbee yet this season under guppys guidance his crosses have been poor

Agree2 Disagree0

Agree but we did it today.it worked. Different class. Vaughan alfie looks good partnership. mad max
