What players do you feel Sunderland need to make sure they aren't fighting relegation next season?

For me, I think the priority has to be the defence, especially centrebacks.

Ed, I would totally agree. We need two CB's. I would personally look at Coates and Van Dijk, Coates could be an absolute bargain, has played brilliantly since coming in. And Dijk, well he has pace, physical presence and can defend. Perfect. Though who ever is manager I believe we would have to ship off a lot of players, and be willing to spend £30m + to avoid the battle for the drop next season. I think we should look for a winger and a striker aswell. Perhaps Bruma, the left wing Portuguese national, I remember us being linked with him last season. And we need a taller striker to be partnered with Defoe. Not wickham, I wouldn't sell him unless a good offer came in, though I'd prefer to loan him out so he can gain experience as his decision making is appauling. Striker, well, I middle-aged striker (physical) would be ideal (23-27yrs), perhaps Dick would know a few decent strikers. And last but not least, Watmore. Duncan, Watmore. He 'MUST' be in the first team next season, otherwise another club will snap him up for a cheap fee, and we will lose a one for the future.

Dick said we need 6 quality signings! I feel we need more than that and more important ED is to clear the deadwood out of the club and there is lots! too many Championship players who don't improve the team!. we need at least 2 top quality strikers 2 centre back and a creative midfielder or two!. and on Advaccat he's 67 so he isn't going to be here long term and hell bring his players in then leave and we are at square one AGAIN with a new manager! so we really need a long term young ambitious manager who will bring some of the talent in the youth and u21s through to the first team to develop them!

For me it's someone with creativity. A proper number 10. A hole man. Other than a few complete melt downs, our defence did us pretty well all season. Catts, Larsson, and Rodwell are a decent midfield plus we have Watmore and Honeyman who can add depth. We also have proven goal scorers in Defoe and Fletcher. But what we don't have, and haven't had for quite some time is someone to link the back with the front. Maybe EG will fulfill this role next season and of course it all depends on who leaves this summer.

AGAIN no Watmore or any of the kids on the bench?? ridiculous!. I hope Dick doesn't come here as the talented youngsters will go elsewhere and won't get a chance under this manager very disspointing!

We also have proven goal scorers in Defoe and Fletcher?

I suggest you check out Fletcher's goal scoring record it's abysmal. Defoe is on the decline so can't be relied on.
We need a striker who can get 15+ goals a season or we'll be back in the mire next season.

Arca 33 I agree totally in what you say!. Defoe is not suited to our style of play! and Fletcher is too injury prone as only when he 100% fit is he a decent player .Wickam? still not sure about him as a Premier quality player! and Graham? not sure if hell be here next season . so IMO we need at least 3 new strikers as if we can put the chances away we are creating well be ok next season!

I realized after that last post that Fletcher has wasted close to a dozen shots in the last few games, but I still think that proper service has been the biggest problem the club has had for some time.

Agree with that too safcinthe usa! at times we play with little width despite having so many wingers at the club we are desperate for creativity in the midfield area especially since Giatcherini has been injured most of the season! too many defensive midfielders who run around like headless chickens!

I have noticed a lot of chat online about whether or not Dick Advocaat's tears were genuine or not. I just wondered what people felt on here, were his tears genuine?

I believe the tears are genuine, he is 67. It shows he wants to stay, and that he feels for the club, and his speeches in conferences show that.

Well tears are emotion and we need passion and emotion at this club!
