Ramis gone too, now. Hard to understand current transfer strategy- don't want spend big but don't seem to be able to sign Bosman's or reasonably priced overseas players either. For almost two years now it has obvious that we need a left back, a centre back with some pace and the ability to tackle without conceding costly free-kicks, a midfielder who can both beat a man and then pass accurately, and a striker who can hold up possession and also convert chances. Until these players are recruited we will continue to be punished even though the present squad can fashion chances- because they can take them, because they give the ball away so often, and because we can't defend for any length of time without conceding set pieces and goals. Very depressing to see how the likes of Fulham, West Ham and QPR have strengthened their squads while we dither. We may not be top six, but we are better supported than all these teams and should be able to compete with them on the pitch and in the transfer market.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Cant compete with qpr at all they do not have a wage structure or a budget to work with hughes says who he wants and he gets the green light to sign...west ham are looking like to be a decent spending team but unfortunatly due to stupid spending over last 4 seasond mon does not have a lot to spend hence why safc are struggling as there are players available and some times you just have to spend a little more than they worth to bring in so to me its clear mon has a limited budget.......

Agree3 Disagree2

Its nothing to do with budget for heavens sake. the 3 clubs you mentioned are all london clubs. thats where players want to go LONDON. nothing to do with budget.short has stated he will back mon to sign quality. its just hard to get them to come to the north east

Agree3 Disagree4

Qpr can and will pay 80k a week for a players wages and safc have a 50k a week wage budget and will not break that so yes its every think about budget......k

Sunderland to sign Steven Fletcher, Patrick Helmes, Martin Olsson, Ola Toivnen, and James Collins, as Sebastian Larsson is the key for persuading Ola and Martin to join them at Sunderland. Also Steven Fletcher did not play in wolves friendly today so 99.9% chance is that he is signing for us.

Believable2 Unbelievable5

Would consider them all except collins,we desperatley need an athletic, pacey centre half, not another plodder!

Whas it Billy Knott that came on in centre mid last night, if it was thought he looked a canny little player good pace and taught for every ball. Thought kilgallon was class again and cattermole had a really solid game aswell.
'-'

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Yet we got beat by a team who plays in leauge 1 it terrible o,neill should be ashamed

who do YOU think safc will sign?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No decent players at all just old ex villa players...

Agree5 Disagree3

Hopefully a very expensive good striker
2 midfielders like Tom Huddlestone and Adam Johnson a good left back like Anita or Fucile and another solid centre back.

Agree2 Disagree1

No anita or johnson and as for a very expensive striker well you a probably right just a shame it will be some one like fletcher for £12.5 million +......

Is anyone else getting worried now? Not even any decent rumours never mind signings, and to make it worse players are leaving not arriving! :(:(:(

Believable2 Unbelievable1

The players who have left were poor and taking up wages we have just given numerous young players contracts so somewhere in the near future they will be blooded into the premier league so dont expect many signings maybe or hopefully 2 or 3 quality instead of the s***e quantity bought over the last 2 t 3 pre seasons.

Relegation battle this season is between, Norwich-Sunderland-West Brom-Reading-Southampton. They seem to be the weakest teams/squads in the league and in sunderlands case aging.

Believable3 Unbelievable4

Maybe some of the teams you have mentioned will be involved in the relegation battle along with the likes of swansea west ham aston villa and newcastle who having to compete in europe as well as the cups and premier league with one of the thinnest squads in the league so yes no one is guaranteed safety. bolton blackburn and wolves thought they were getting to being established premier league teams and they all got relegated not one of the promoted teams went down.

Agree1 Disagree1

Sunderland will be in the relegation battle. Sess is leaving.

Agree2 Disagree3

Nufc have had 1 relegation battle in 20 years of the premiership and they lost......safc have had numerous relegation battles and lost 5 times..infact safc have been relegated more times than any other team yet safc fans allways say nufc are now going to be fighting relegation this season....the same fans who said last year nufc would struggle the same fans who said safc would be in europe the same safc fans who said mon will get a warchest the same fans who said ashley would sell all of our top players......have you ever seen a set of fans being totally wrong on every occaision.......

Agree3 Disagree1

Newcastle have spent 80 years in the top flight sunderland 82 with sunderland going 67 years consecutive in top flight from day of being formed.

Agree2 Disagree0

67 years consecitive and how long ago was that as the last 30 years i bet roughly you aint been in the top flight 12 of them.....person......woo hoooo we where better than you 50 years ago get a grip the time is now and your struggling..smb

Agree2 Disagree2

2010/11 season
2009/10 season
2008/09 season

still history but 3 out of the last 4 years sunderland have finnished above newcastle but in the end neither side have anything to show for it

Agree2 Disagree0

Football was only invented in newcastle in 95 when keegan took over.

Agree2 Disagree0

Yep they all jumped on the keegan band wagon
