What's the betting Wickham scores against us this season?

After last nights disgraceful result from a full strength premier league club we need to ship out a lot more of the players who let us down season after season. If we don't this lot will relegate us,we simply must get some quality players in.While I know many of the present team are crowd favourites, come on,they are no where good enough for the premier league, thats why we get beat all the time.If our owner and management team are not feeding us a load of rhubarb and custard, as they have in the past, then the Wickham money will go a long way in helping us to sign a quality striker, and hopefully a few more will follow him out of the door and the money is used on quality players, but I won't hold my breath.

with wickham leaving, leaving us with defoe and the other two can I now build my hopes up for a new striker. Sow would be interesting. Heard Rhodes get a mention last night but big risk for the money Blackburn want. personally don't see why we don't test qpr with 15 mil bid for Austin?

Thoughts?

Me, one gary rowell and bob stokoe have been saying this for a while. These players we have will guarantee us relegation. We need a mass clear out. It is blatantly obvious that jos, roberge, brown, buckley, bridcutt, mannone, fletcher and graham are just not good enough.

Would like to see austin in the team. But its more realistic that he will go up the road. I hate to say this but their signings are all quality. We were interested in all 3 and all 3 chose the mags. Speaks volumes about what quality players think about us.

To be fair there's been people for the last five seasons saying these players will guarantee us relegation, they've never been right. We start the season with whoever we start with & hopefully end better than last season, though I'd take 16th again right here right now.

Bobby K. if we are all being honest then I think every safc fan who uses this site would agree with what you have been saying about the deadwood. I am really trien to stay optimistic for the new season and lens has really excited me although it was only against Doncaster.

wickham sale doesn't upset me but it is such a shame he could not reach the heights. good luck to the lad though, as long as he doesn't come back to haunt us.

FTM we are all on this site because we love our club. But what wyndrusher wrote is a statement of how we are all conditioned into accepting sub standard football and relegation battles each season. Accepting 16th place is an achivement? At the end of every season I vow not to renew my season ticket but I will be there again, I am the 1 pulling my hair out.

to wyndrusher I go to the games hoping and thinking that we can challenge for a top 10 place maybe a bit optimistic I know but if you take out the top six and maybe southampton at the moment then there isn't a great deal between the rest and with a couple of decent signings who knows where we might finish but at the start of the season to say I would be happy with 16th then wyndrusher I wouldn't waste my time going mate we follow sunderland because we love the club and expect us to get as high as we can and hopefully one day I will be able to see us playing away in europe having being at the home games in the 70's

I agree with a few seasons of building, specifically without changing managers & players & style every single year. We have a good shot to aim at least 10th. As it is right now with half our team over the hill or just plain not good enough, could we really challenge for top 10?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love us to progress up the league and challenge for cups etc, I just think until we get our team sorted that's a pipe dream, hence why I'd take 16th right now with no relegation battle. A few years of stability & improvement then for sure aim a lot higher.

I've been to practically every home game in the last 22 years bar illness & a fair few away games too, (before that anytime I could with regards to school/college/uni/work) in the end though I'm just being realistic as the hype train goes a bit too fast for my blood, If we finish higher than 16th I'll be over the moon, I just won't expect it till the team gets together, gets its shape together and starts performing.

Look at our pre-season, you can say oh fitness is important, the performance however has been dire, in all areas for most of the matches with really little in the way of bright spots.

i totally agree wyndrusher every season we think we have made the rigt signings only to be let down under di canio who I think would have made us a really good attacking team we brought in double figure signings (not one di canio stated was wanted by him) on paper some looked decent signings with a mixture of internationals players with champions league experiance and youth who had played in their top leagues not many remain. then along came poyet brought in a couple of players from brighton who I don't think are as bad as some fans make out but at the moment look only championship players but once again we thought at the start of last season poyet could take us forward mate how wrong we were he had players out of positiion playing tactics which worked when he played at chelsea only problem was gus we didn't have chelsea's type of class to play them yet still he was stubborn and wouldn't change them (some of the worst football to watch played at the sol)and rightly so had to go. now we have dick came in and did the job he was well paid for and got us safe now we start the season with him as manager I wonder what tactics he will play as the one he ended on last season were not very good to watch either yet as I said he got the job done I for one am not looking forward to this season as I don't think the appointment of dick on a one year deal is good for the club as kevin phillips said when I spoke to him at a football presentation not many players would come to sunderland in a hurry knowing that they won't be playing for the same manager next season. I just hope that over this season dick can weed out some of the players I have mentioned in previous posts and replace them with better and hungry players who want to succeed for the club but I would be surprised to see many of our younger players giving a start as everywhere dick has been the young lads don't get much of a chance mate
