No doubt the O'Neill apologists will be parroting excuses, but this was another pathetic effort. No subtlety, no variation, tactically naive, poorly organised and no heart. This shower would struggle in the Championship, and it becomes more obvious with every game that O'Neill hasn't a clue. All summer he twiddled his thumbs while the likes of Fulham and Everton signed good players who were affordable. Never mind the nonsense about this not being his team, he has had a year and if he doesn't have the players he wants it is because good players don't want to play in a 4-5-1 formation. This manager lacks ambition, and his team lacks any spark.

Strong first 11 embarrassed by a championship Club. O Neil still up to the task?

Agree7 Disagree2

Ive got a feeling there is something very big going to happen soon. Someone may leave !!

Agree6 Disagree0

Im sorry i have to agree with the above im losing patience with MON now !..we have to play 4-4-2 otherwise we are gonna have a relegation battle on our hands !... i had feeling Boro would win this ! what a missed opportunity to go on a cup run !...at this rate well be cannfodder for Villa this weekend !

Agree6 Disagree0

And why did he drop our TWO form players Rose and Gardener for this game !

Agree3 Disagree0

Yes something will happen soon if we dont perform ..as Ellis Short WONT accept failure!...remmeber MON had walked away before .!..watch this space !

Agree4 Disagree0

We couldnt hit a barn door from 10 yards at the moment !..or even 5 !!

Agree3 Disagree0

We played 442 last night and it didnt work, we need a goal poacher to partner fletcher, rose, gardner and larsson were injured you muppet! for gods sake some fans are prats, we all wanted o'neill its going to take time to have the team he wants, have some god damm faith we have only lost one game so far this season, sure we have drawn alot but its better than getting beat. too many fickle fans on here go and support Newcastle!

Agree5 Disagree3

Look we need to sign a few creative players
The likes of jonhson . We also need a speedy forwad not nessa serly defoe but players like him ill give mon a season before belive hes crap give him a bit of time

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with both comments above. Give MoN time, he didn't turn Villa around in a day. When he came here and started a great run of games you all thought he was God and now that we've only won 1 game in 9 you're all getting on his back when 3 of our best performers are injured. As I said before, give MoN time. We won't get relegated this season. I guarantee nowhere near the relegation dogfight.

Agree1 Disagree2

I was the one who wrote someone may leave, it doesnt necessarily mean its going to be MON! Something is clearly wrong with our style of play and the failure to buy "ENOUGH" quality players.
Coaching, Scouting and Negotiations during deals all have to be looked at, yes we got Johnstone but he wanted to come to his home club and he needed to feel wanted after Man City, the club didnt have to sell its self to him he knew the set up. I know we had injuries but we should have something something MORE in our locker!

Agree2 Disagree0

1.MON didn't really turn Villa round at all- as a manager his reputation has always been larger than his achievements
2. The ' self proclaimed 'fan' who is fond of calling those who disagree with him muppets should keep watching children's TV and stay out of grown up conversations
3. It is sad reality of life that time can only be relied on to make people older, not better
4. This team lacks ideas, leadership, tactics, organisation and spirit. Middlesborough put them to shame, and the best they have achieved this season was an heroic draw against an Arsenal side that played them off the park.

Agree3 Disagree1

Agree with the above ! BUT Ellis Short doesnt have endless patience !...its up to the manager to motivate the players or drop them and put players in the team who will give a minimum of 110% ...the ball is very much in MONS court !...so start kicking some ass Martin !

Agree3 Disagree0

As much as we can fall out over each others opinions on here, we can't do anything else but hope that MoN can begin another great run of games. but you have to remember, we have only lost 1 game in 8 in the league. That's an achievement of some sort.

Dominating the ball again but can't put the ball in the net. A striker is a must in January, gary hooper the most likely. Safc93

Very disapointing tonight.Problem is in midfield, always sideways or back. we need two players who can actually play football in central midfield.Cant believe Cattermole has been given another contract,we will continue to struggle with players like him in the side.-Chris-S

Agree2 Disagree1

Take the blinkers off the Boro had the better chances. Clueless again.

Agree4 Disagree0

Again? Not something that has happened often since MON arrived, though I suppose we can hope he picked up some clues about how to play a counter-attacking game from Middlesbrough, who had by far the better chances.

Agree1 Disagree0

Despite many on here ..i think keeping and worse still giving Catts a longer contract is a bad move .for the club...he doesnt pass the ball well virtually no goal threat and too many sendings off ...sorry id get rid of him ..we need skill in the midfield area !..

Agree1 Disagree2

Does the like of Sessegnon ring any bells for you? He has class, dips in and out of form though. I think we need to try maybe a 4-1-2-1-2. Sessegnon playing behind Fletch and Saha or McFadden now, with Gardner in the holding role. Larsson, McLean and Johnson would have to battle it out for a position on the wing. Would that work? Just a thought. We need a change even though we tried 442 last night, it didn't work out at all.

Team I would play against boro
gk Westwood
rb Bardo
cb Killgallon
cb O'Shea
lb Rose
rcm Gardner
Cm catts
lcm Vaughan
Cam sess
st fletch
St saha

We might as well take this opportunity to try something new. I think that team would be very affective to be honest. If it doesn't work change it at half time. But that what I would start with.
