If everyone is honest Whickham isn't up to the job and anyone who has watched him over a period of time would know that. Vergini was outstanding at right back towards the end of the season. We need people at the club who are young and hungry to succeed not just here for the money hence Rodwell and the Chelsea boy are great signings. If Whickham doesn't want to stay then it's because he doesn't believe he is up to the job. Borini will come if he has any ambition to play regular football and my info is that he will by end of week.
Remember how old Wickham is; he's still learning his trade and he's still coming to terms with the demands of the Premiership.
While I think he's unlikely to get the game time he craves here this season, meaning I think he will not sign and so be sold, I do think we should ensure we have some kind of sell-on clause in there as I've a horrible feeling he could be a £20m+ player in a couple of seasons.

On Adam Johnsons instagram (adam11johnson) there's a picture of Rodwell signing some papers and he says deal done, welcome Jack so I think that's tied up. Probably just editing some photos of him in the shirt as I type. (hopefully)

Am I being paranoid?
Rarely have I seen a transfer so widely heralded before the player has actually signed than this Rodwell deal. We have agreed everything it seems yet we are "due to announce" the deal shortly.
It's now been nearly 24 hours so what is the delay? Is there a chance this might not happen or is it so we can announce the Vergini deal at the same time?
As he signed, yup you were paranoid ;)

well i'm feeling a little more upbeat this week transfers are happening and i'm coming back home from work yeha.
but on the eto front its not outside the realms of impossibility think about it he's free so £120,000p/wk
6.2million not a bad price however that just gives us a year not worth it but not impossible.

Rodwell done and dusted just needs to be announced.
ssn say Vergini completing a medical this morning after terms were agreed on another one year loan deal.
They will probably be unveilled together today sometime. Which leaves us to wonder who the next two in will be. Gus wanted 4 in by tomorrow. 2 pretty much done so who are the other two? Borini? Alonso? If not one of them, who else?

Funny how fickle a lot of you fans are on here. Only a couple of days ago Congerton and Short were the scurge of Sunderland and should be booted out of the club. Now with Rodwell looking likely to sign for us they are great again and showing massive intent for the club.
Fair play to all of the fans who said wait for things to pan out, even if like me they had concerns over the slow progress.
Hopefully the other '3' signing Gus mentioned will follow this week and our squad will look capable of performing until the next transfer window.
Personally I would not like Vergini as he is not the quality we are looking to step up to. Dawson would be a solid CB to step in with WB and JOS while we continue to look for younger options.
Exciting week ahead perhaps?

I completely agree about Vergini. Everyone seems to forget how many horrible passes he made and wingers he let slip by. One announcer of a match I was listening to said, "Vergini, you are useless, mate!" after his third or fourth mistake in a game. Get him on the cheap if possible and use him sparingly. Personally, I'd rather see him stay where he is.

Read this site daily, finally joined up.
Gotta say if the players I think come in, (Rodwell, Borini, Mutch) I believe that we can have a very succesful season ahead, on the basis that we can also sign a CB, as we all know Wes and JOS can't possibly play more than 2 games in a row.
However, this is SAFC, so anything can happen really
