Great signing if it comes off.

Agree5 Disagree0

Wikipedia has him down as a sunderland player now, not that you can completely trust such a site!

If this comes off it will be a promising start, bringing drive and height to the midfield. But the last month has underlined that reliable, speedy defenders are a priority- so we really need at least one centreback and one fullback. The likes of Cuellar, Bramble, Kilgallon and O'Shea have all shown their various limitations, and ideally we want two CBs, though I can't see that happening unless we offloaded a couple, and who would sign any of that shower? It need not be too expensive to replace them however, as there are quite a lot of Championship CBs who are more reliable- Dann or Curtis Davies for example, and good young European prospects such as Ginter (Freiburg) and Vestergaard (Hoffenheim). I would suggest signiong a quality CB and blooding Laing, but having seen how reluctant O'Neill is to give Wickham a chance I can't see Laing getting the opportunity unless the manager changes. A creative midfielder with pace would be a good fourth signing. I know there is speculation about forwards such as Guidetti and Graham, but If we had someone who could pass accurately or cross regularly from higher up the pitch then I think Fletcher and Wickham would get enough goals to ensure we stay in the division. The current priority should be for reliable defenders and an attacking midfielder who can run at players with the ball and create space and chances for the forwards we have.

Dann was shocking at Blackburn last season.

Ed do you think we will get hooper and downing
They'd be great signings {Ed024's Note - They would give us a few more options but - Downing, is he not just another Johnston ? I would say Hooper would be more likely}

Well they said Johnston was amag supporter! anyway Graham would enjoy playing with former Boro players Catts and Johnston !

Sick of hearing Geordie this nd Geordie that, if he can score goals get him in ! Think it's about time certain sunderland supporters realised that without the thousands of Geordie fans that support sunderland we would be lucky to get 15 - 20 thousand crowds every home game !

Heard any news ed ?
Matty {Ed024's Note - Very quiet Matty - apart from Cahill, MON must be playing his cards v close to his chest, a little whisper about Christopher Samba but he's on £100k/week with Anzhi Makhachkala so I can't see it. Would expect Michael Dawson might be on the radar ? Who would you realistically like to see coming ?

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Anybody with more sense than Cuellar is fine for me.

Agree3 Disagree0

The fans would pay Sambas wages to come to TSOL great defender !

Agree5 Disagree0

The main problem (ed) for MON is getting these players to come to the North East ! {Ed024's Note - The Glass Museum, Angel of the North, The coast, the climate - what's not to love ?}

Agree4 Disagree0

Roland juhasz has said he would be very interested in a move to sunderland

Agree4 Disagree1

Roland Juhasz indeed! Now that is correct! It was on SSN earlier.

Agree3 Disagree0

Whose Roland Juhasz?.

Agree0 Disagree2

Wel Ed if players came he for the climate perhaps we should sign from scandanavian clubs or iceland ...or what about Huskys they would certainly move faster than Bramble and Cuealla ! lol

Doubt we'll actually sign anyone on a permenant basis, maybe a few poor players who don't have a club and a few loan deals but other than that I can't see O'neill spending until the summer. Ed, do you know if O'neill is in any negotiations currently? {Ed024's Note - Apart from Cahill - who QPR are also talking to I've heard nothin definite}

Not many teams play 442 anymore. I believe playing with one up front is right. However, our problem is that we can't keep hold of the ball long enough. The whole idea behind playing a lone striker is that the two wide players push further forward which stops the opposing full backs getting forward as much and then one central midfielder bursts into the box supporting the striker.

We need two central midfielders who can keep the ball to dictate the pace of the game.

This would do me for the rest of the season.

Migs

A lot of people on here are becoming disillusioned with mon and his tactics including myself. But who could we get out there to replace him dont mention hughes or di matteo. unless we can bring in someone else the best thing to do is get behind him till the end of the season then see how it goes. changing managers at this time of the season would only end in one thing and its not something anyone at the club wants so lets get behind mon and the players and see who we get in the transfer window
