well if poyet does get the job he wasn't my first choice and how he does no one can tell but he will be manager of my club so he will get my backing how ever it goes for him

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree, he is not my choice but good luck to him, really I suppose it depends on whether Cattermole and his pals like him or not. Chris-s.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree totally, we've had experience didn't work ie O'Neil Bruce, maybe he is a bit like dicanio, but not as volatile, let's get behind the lads and get out of this mess were in. good luck to Gus lad you'll need it. haway the lads.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am like the above. Not my personal choice but he is here and will get my 110% support.

Agree0 Disagree0

Whoever came in was never going to be welcomed unanimously as there was no clear favourite or obvious candidate out there.

The thing is, we've tried British, we've tried EPL experience, we've tried tracksuit manager with a DoF and, frankly, none of them have worked so who's to say what we need!

Poyet has a good record (both as manager and as no. 2 with Denis Wise), has some gravitas in that he had an impressive playing career, is multi-lingual, is a tracksuit manager and knows the EPL pretty well. That's quite a few ticks so he's certainly one of the better choices we could have made.

I also agree that it was wise to get the Liverpool and Man Utd games out of the way otherwise any bubble may have been well and truly burst before getting a chance to take off.

So, it's a 31-game season and we still need 40 points. Good luck Gus; hopefully all in red and white are fully behind you!

We are supposed to have good, supportive fans but everywhere we look there is complete ar$e holes who are claiming we are doomed even before the bloody manager has walked in

It can only get better FFS

Believable0 Unbelievable0

God, how much I agree with you. Theses are the people who boo at every game, does not matter how the lads have played.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is October and since January of this year "the lads" have won 4 games, do you think that is good enough?Do you not understand why fans are unhappy?Where the hell do you get the nerve to criticise our long suffering fans. Chris-s.

Agree0 Disagree0

100% agree m8 its starting to do my head in how negative some fans are, but the same ones would say he's a god if we get out of trouble, which in my eyes we will be ok and will NOT go down.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes mate, you're talking about January, a lot has happened lately if you havnt realised, O'neill was sacked, PDC brought in and the entire squad has changed, so you can't use an old memory as a defence because the team is completely different now WHICH WILL TAKE TIME
I would completely agree with you if we still had the same team but the truth is we don't

Agree0 Disagree0

You say long suffering fans. At least were trying to change things. Pre season everyone was cock a hoop at what we were trying, no one was suffering then. I'd be more angry if we hadnt sacked o'neill or even worse replaced him with someone similar like Pulis. It was always high risk but thank god we went for it because I was disgusted in us last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Between January and the end of last season we won four games out of 21- not good enough and something had to change. We were a poor side, playing timid football and with experienced players regularly making costly errors. We signed a lot of unproven or second rate players who could not get into the teams they were at (Giaccherini apart), and sold the best player (Mignolet) and probably the most talented but rather lazy Sessegnon to fund this 'transformation. Are we transformed? No- we have no wins from seven games, just same old rubbish, and it seems we are reluctant to play many of those brought in to improve the side. This is a shambles.
Poyet would not have headed my list, but God knows he is a brave man taking on this mess and senior players who are not worth a place, so let us see what he can do.

Agree0 Disagree0

How has the squad changed out of the players brought in were for the development squad, about half a dozen have been used, the same crap as last year are still playing

SSN recon Poyet got the job. Absolute shocker from the board!! Another manager with no experience, They have had a fortnight to sort this out and listen to the fans but as usual, ignored! That's what happens when you have no one in charge who knows a thing about football! We're DOOMED!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mate your not representing the fans. i'm happy with the decision and also only have praise for there bravery in appointing di canio who kept us up which our 'experienced' manager o'neill was never going to do. You appoint experience your going back to the same old tired names who dinosaurs in the game and lack imagination. We are bottom and won't be able to attract big name manager with huge eueopean experience. Poyet at least gives us some hope about our future.

Agree0 Disagree0

Keep the faith

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't get me wrong, the list of candidates is shocking. The football under MON was shocking and the club did take a massive chance on PDC who I thought would have been a great manager given time, (all though he needs to change his man management ways), but in Poyet, again we are going into the unknown. Why was he sacked at Brighton? Anyone know? I know the season is young but he will need to get off to a flyer or we will be claiming that record back off Derby!

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the first post, our problems go a lot deeper than the manager and players, nobody upstairs has a clue, short, byrne, di fanti etc are clueless. Just appointed another di canio, could of had poyet 2 wks ago so they must of had other names.

Agree0 Disagree0

I for one would be happy with that appointment if were to happen! He got Brighton playing some great football! He is a disciplinarian! But not over the top like Paulo! Let's get real do we want to play descent football or not?? Hopefully he is strong enough to make the correct decisions over the players! And I'm sure everyone will have a clean slate to impress him! Let's keep the faith sunderland till I die!

Agree0 Disagree0

Did the southampton manager have any prem experience? and he's doing a canny job

Agree0 Disagree0

Poyet does have experience. He had a very successful playing career at Premier and International level. He has had success as a Manager at Brighton at the time when that club played at a tiny rented stadium and then moved to their new ground. his successful team played really good football and the new ground was full every week. He is exactly what we need.

Agree0 Disagree0

Di fanti's only been in 5 minutes. You can't blame him for previous seasons. He's been at one of the biggest clubs in the world so he clearly knows something about football whether you wish to believe it or not.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good player doesn't always mean good manager, ballys a good example of that. Defo something wrong with the way poyet left brighton and not sure our players are good enough to play attractive football but poyet deserves a chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

hi guys..ED025 here the everton editor...just a message to inform you about the sad loss of a player who graced both our teams MICK BUCKLEY, he died today aged 59, far too young...he played for sunderland between 1978 and 83 making 121 appearances ...RIP

Agree0 Disagree0

Saddened by the news. 100% player, gave his all.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes I agree. Not only did he play for Sunderland he captained us as well on a number of occasions.
Everton Editor. I would reckon his memory will be suitably acknowledged on Dec 26th when we meet at Goodison Park.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - that would be good rob..

Roy Hodgson, Glen hoddle, vialli, harry redknapp, steve mclaren, david moyes, martinez, lambert, steve bruce, MON, arsene wenger, Sir alex, laudrup, steve clarke, mourinho, mark hughes, peter reid, Jol, Rodgers never had premier league experience before, and most did okay 1st time. you may argue that some
did well in other countries top leagues, probs only wenger, jol, mourinho, laudrup, sir alex. but how many managers fail at different clubs. The championship is a good league for up and coming managers, and most have done well in 1st premier season

Agree0 Disagree0

DOOMED!
Probably one of those people who walk around in a sandwich board saying 'the end of the world is nigh'.

Bookies have gone nuts for Poyet this morning. Some stopped taking bets altogether now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes, it's been a very decisive move in the markets this morning which suggests to me someone knows something.

With the international break pending, I do expect an appointment in the first half of this week.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats because he's got the job, announced later today!

Agree0 Disagree0

I am guessing so long as he beats Newcastle you will not care if he gets you relegated. That love affair you all had with PDC over one game proved where your priorities are.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'll always see di canio as good for the club and he finally upset some of the players who put in some of the most disgraceful performances I have ever seen last season, how we stayed up I don't know. Being honest though I don't really blame you for giving us stick as I knew these persons who gave it all the talk in pre season on this site about how great we are wouldn't have any degree of patience. I also acknowledge you lot have the same amount of persons on your site.
