Try this team Gus

Mannone

Celustka Roberge diakite
Gardner Catts Colback

Ki Johnson

Giaccerini

Borini

Believable0 Unbelievable0

3 at the back? We can't defend with 4 at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

With gardener, colback and catts that's 6 but colback and gardener can push forward more then that leaves four at the back

As a bit of light hearted relief regarding the appointment of Poyet check out the full name of new SAFC coach Charlie Oatway and the connection to QPR.

well its gus poyet who has the safc job, nobody getting excited, nobody looking grimm, I think it could be a great blessing for us that its an appointment where its not box office stuff, keane, oneill, di canio. let's just hope he goes about his job quietly and confidently, and hopefully get some results on the board. I don't care if we play ugly to get results, so let's get behind him, safc till I die. tk73

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not happy at all with poyet no prem experience just like pdc. And he's got a ego similar to pdc. ellis short mustn't have big confidence hense the 2 year contract

Agree0 Disagree0

Its called business sense.

I for one is well happy with his appointment! he got Brighton playing like they did proper football! The truth is no body knows what's going to happen with Gus and the team! But it's time now to back them! It's a new era! Give them a chance!whats that Southampton managers name! Well he's got no pl experience and he ain't doing that bad! And still can nit speak proper English? Which proves that if you work as team it works!play football! Fight for everything! Your own pride the manager and the fans!!! So welcome Gus and and come on safc sunderland till I die!! Howay!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mag here in peace, I don't know if Poyet will be success, bigger names have failed, lesser names have had success in management. Every appointment is a risk, some work, some don't, At least give him a chance, and don't expect miracles overnight

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you're one of the only sensible mags

A lot of doom mongers on here and elsewhere unhappy with the appointment.

Me I'm delighted.

Sunderland fans do love a moan, if we got mourinho and Sir Alex Ferguson as assistant a lot would still moan.

Lets get behind poyet. I know a Brighton fan and have read a lot of views on poyet from Brighton fans on forums etc. ABoth have been positive.

Brighton were a nothing team in league 1, getting 5k crowds playing long ball football and could hardly string two passes together. Poyet gave Brighton THE GREATEST ENTERTAINING FOOTBALL THEY HAD EVER SEEN. not my words. Got them not only playing top football, but winning with great attacking football but a strong defence too. They not only got promoted they came within touching distance of the Prem and now get 30k crowds.

He's only problem seems to be he's ambition as he's always talking himself up for a top job. that's the reason he left Brighton. As for what Vicente said take that with a pinch of salt. He wasn't getting a game surprise surprise.

He's the opposite of dicanio so don't compare like the media or other fans have.

Look at old post about him brighton fans love him, but if you look at recent ones since he left they discredit him and seem bitter.

I do still think we may go down, he's not aa miracle worker. But he's our best bet for the long term to change our philosophy and build the cclub he's way. He's the best bet to either keep us up or get us up next year. We need a long term appointment.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Brighton rose up the ranks because they paid out for good players who were superior in their leagues. Now let's see what he can do in a tougher lead with inferior players to other teams.

Agree0 Disagree0

How the hell can you say we will go down we have played a few games with a lot more left all the season. We have got most of the hard games out the way for the other teams around us havnt, if we beat swans and mags then that will be a big boost to kick start the season and get out this rut we in. Me personaly think its defo possible, we have better players than last year so can easy go on a few games winning streak, this time of the season the league is always changing so just try and be positive when the players get a new manager they always seem to get a kick up the **** then it won't look so bad keep the faith, I always will.

Agree0 Disagree0

I reckon the fate of Sunderland as a Premier League team is in the hands of us (Newcastle).

Do not be expecting any favours, if there was ever a bigger incentive than to smash Sunderland for the fun of it, it is with the bonus that it will put you on your backsides with little hope of rescuing your season.

Poyet is not going to know what has hit him, he will after the final whistle & Newcastle have finished demolishing you. Not only will you be 12 points behind Newcastle (maybe more), but you will be the laughing stock/whipping boys of the Premier league. Here comes the final nail in the coffin; and Pardew is about to hammer it in.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed024's Note - I nearly deleted this - but it made me laugh so much I decided to post it. We are seven games into the season and final nail is mentioned .......I'm not a great fan of Poyet and was couldnt decide how I felt about his appointment but this has cheered me up no end. I have some mates that are Newcastle fans and quite clued up .....but obviously not all Newcastle fans fall into that category.}

Did you not post that same comment about pdc

Agree0 Disagree0

As a player Poyet scored more goals against Newcastle more thanany other opposition he played against and is unbeaten against them a both as assistant manager and manager. Basically NUFC are just a plaything for Gus and they should be referred to as "POYET'S RABBIT".

Agree0 Disagree0

Is that the same poyet who masterminded two wins against the mighty toon?tk73

Agree0 Disagree0

If somebody at the club ie sunderland not that council owned one near Northumberland were to show our players this post I think it might be the incentive to go out and play the off the park I do believe Newcastle will be going into the derby full of confidence and the belief they will walk it this could work in our favour and sincerely hope we continue where pdc left off against them.

Agree0 Disagree0

That is the funniest thing iv heard this week
And I heard a 6 year old shout "don't touch that leaf, it has a!ds" coming out of school

Agree0 Disagree0

Every team gets a lift when a new manager comes in. We did when PDC came in and we thrashed the Mags on their turf. This time they'll get another hammering from a squad that is much better than last season. Reckon that will be the final nail for Pardew already on borrowed time and due to be the next managerial casualty.

Agree0 Disagree0

When Newcastle are finished with you it will be 9 games, that will be just about quarter of the season over. 1 point in that many games would essentially finish your season, not even a Martinez Houdini season could get out of that hole.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im a mag and a fan of the banter on this page. But christ this is ridiculous. Its far too early to be saying its a nail in the coffin. Sure IF we do win things are not looking rosie but they don't regardless. Anything can and will happen.

(P. s - he craps where he wants, he craps where he wants. Gustavo Poyet he craps where he wants :P)

Well there's been, Party with Marty, Disco with Di Canio and now Get on the Bus with Gus. Who next at christmas? Maybe the clueless owner? 6 managers in 5 yrs, obviously doesn't know what he is doing he might as well have a go himself. Although Steve Cram is available. Championship beckons, and with Short as owner, worse could follow. Shame, like Newcastle, the club has massive support, massive potential AND an absolute clown as an owner. Our teams in the North East deserve much better.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What?!

How can you say we have a clown as an owner?! He's backed managers like no other.

He took a very brave decision in sacking O'Neill when the Championship beckoned; tick. He took a very brave decision in appointing Di Canio to stave off relegation; tick. Having backed that manager to the tune of millions he then took another very brave decision to sack him; cannot say yet if that is a tick but he was decisive when a problem materialised and I suspect that had he not been so, our club would have split apart so I am going to assume a tick. He then took his time to appoint the next manager and undertook some quality due diligence; tick. He also waited for until we had some genuinely winnable games before bringing a new manager in so as not to deflate any bounce that might materialise; tick.

Wherever the blame does lie, we cannot accuse Ellis Short of being a clown.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have total respect for Short.
Only clown is first poster.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah your right m8 they do deserve better, better fans than you who slag the club the owners who's put money into our club, I bet your one of these fans who moan and complain at anything and wouldn't be happy who we brought in, if you don't like it stay away or get behind the new manager and support the team. come on s'land.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry but this is a ridiculous statement as Ellis Short is trying to take the club to the next level. He is a businessman who has relied on others to guide him on the football front and it is these advisors who have failed. The money he has spent exceeds all bit the top 6 or 7 teams and our wage bill is 8th in the full division.

Niall Quinn brought in Roy Keane. A gamble that started well until Keane's own ego took over.

Steve Bruce. A Geordie is always a bad start but he had reasonable success as a manager. My personal opinion was that he is good at managing yo yo teams, ie gaining promotion but struggling to stay up. He lost the players and more importantly the fans so had to go.

MON was an appointment heralded by all fans. Unfortunately John Robertson did not come with him and his personal circumstances at home stopped him from coaching and managing the way he should have. His tactics were very negative and he also had to leave.

Short then took us in a full new direction. Get rid of the scouting system that had led us to target over priced and low quality players on stupid wages and try to use the European model of scouting young, hungry players full of desire to prove themselves then train and develop them.

I personally liked PDC's ethos. Stamp out the negative mentality, increase fitness, control diets, remove the drinking culture and try to get the club moving forward. His issue was again his own ego. If he could have learnt some man management skills and kept the players onside while instilling this ethos then he would still be here. I think he was proven right that the culture is still there as the players revolted against him because it was not the way they liked to be managed. Disgraceful behaviour!

And now we have Gus Poyet. I have the same reservations as everyone else reference the way he left Brighton. However, his record has been good wherever he has coached and managed so being a SAFC supporter and fan I will get behind him and hopefully he will prove all doubters wrong.

The club have waited two weeks to appoint him so his first two games weren't Liverpool and Man Utd. I know Swansea away and the SGB Skunks aren't easy matches but at least they give him more hope of starting on a positive and hopefully confidence will then come into the squad and off we go. 6 points is a big gap but at this stage of the season can easily be made back up.

So Haway The Lads. let's support our club and stop being so negative!

Agree0 Disagree0

Short cares about our club, whether Gus is the man we will see but, he got rid of O'neill coz he was taking us down, got Di Canio to keep us up, made the decision to sack him as he was destroying our players morale and staff, Short is a very smart man and has took his time with this appointment, let's get on the Gus Bus and back Short, Gus and the players! only way is onward and upward! HA'WAY THE LADS!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Jeez, the poster is a muppet who is most likley a NUFC horse basher who will lamp a nag in a few weeks again

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree guys, what is this Muppet going on about. I love our club, team, history and all that comes with it. Have been on the rollercoaster now for 32yrs an never want to get off. More bad then good times, but hey, its one hell of a ride. Now we ain't in a position to pick up the best managers/coach around and to be honest who would come? Gus has said from the start he wants say again WANTS to be here so anyone not wanting to enjoy this new chapter has my blessing to get off the ride. I don't like what has been going on but who are we to change it. Now let's show some positivity and get behind the man who WANTS to take us forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

The comment on having the 8th highest wage bill. Surely that can't be true. Bent left us to pick up bigger wages and that was to villa. Bramble and kilgallon overpaid and released. There must be a few outside top 6 with bigger wages than us, we seem to control ours quite well.

Agree0 Disagree0

To the post about the 8th highest wage bill. This was from a published list detailing the average weekly wages at each club. We were even above the Skunks!

You are correct that the likes of Bramble leaving and Sess being sold will bring it down but high earners like Johnson, Brown, O Shea, Fletcher etc are still there. I would put money on Seb and Vaughan being high earners as well as they were signed on free transfers.

We are therefore not quite a clever as you think with our wages!

Agree0 Disagree0

But we're slowly improving

Poyet the man so let's get fully behind him and the lads and get out of this mess! Plus, hope he makes Catt's captain again, much better leader than O Shay!

I think Sunderland will find it very hard to stay up now.

And Gus Poyet is not the man for your club.

Should of gone for Stuart Pearce?

I personally think your chairmen, wants to get you relegated to clear out all the crap you have.

But looks like your club is in such a bad state now a think you will do a Wolves.

If I was your chairmen I would sell up, A thankless task in getting a once great club one of best in Europe to be a top 10 club again.

Club also needs rebranding.

Play on the clubs nickname the Black Cats (Coal Cats).

Change club crest and colours.

make your second club logo your main logo.

Can see it now.

All Coal with Coal Cat simple coming at you on jersey.

Very present and the future.

That is the way to go rebranding.

A shock to 99% of your fans.

Siboniso Wairo from Tanzania fan of the Premier League and passing interest in the Coal Cats of Sunderland has your club has done so much good work in our country.

I think Poyet is a risk as any manager would be at moment, the chances are we will go down, i'm glad bally has not been given the job, as he has been a loyal member of the club. at least he can return to his role this way. The players spoke out against PDC and rightly so the man did not have a clue and changed the team week in week out and not for the benefit of club, which should come 1st, best 11 players 1st.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well we all have our opinions for or against, we all think we know who could do a better job, the fact is none of that matters for hopefully the next three years and beyond now because that's what our club needs, so let's stop all the negative vibes support our new management team, be positive even though we won't all agree with everything they do or say that's normal, let's all pull together now its the only way we will improve.

we all know how it feels to turn up full of expectation and go home empty I really do think second half against arsenal should of gone our way, we played really well against the sturidge swarez combo and we looked good against a poor man u, not taking anything away from the young lads goals they were good. I am happy to cheer the lads on when they put a shift in but I will come on here and slag them and the manager who ever he is if they put in a gutless performance
call me fickle but if I don't do my job to the best of my ability then I get my arse chewed no two ways about it
