I have to say that I could not have been more disappointed with the lack of quality transfer activity at our club. After last season I fully expected more quality to of been brought to the club long before now. I know ther is still time but the time wasted in the pursuit of Borini (who is worth nowhere near 14 mil) is nothing short of disgraceful. I fear a season of toil and trouble unless this is addressed imediately! C'mon Gus and demand some quality because if it dosent happen very very soon we are going to be in big trouble.

TOO MUCH NEGATIVITY

Gomez-impact sub, brilliant on the ball and an eye for a pass
Jones-looks solid enough
Vergini-very good at right back
PVA-great attacking but defensively there is work to be done
Rodwell-will be amazing, after a year or 2 he will have doubled his worth
Pantilimon-a more than solid GK
Buckley-quick, direct, knows Poyet and style inside out, could surprise a few

Overall I'd rate our transfer business 7/10, get a solid centre back and Borini or someone of his quality, then 8. 5/10
I'm not disappointed in the slightest, but there is work to be still done

You might disagree but imagine what our squad in general would look like without these players, pathetic

Though Gus continues to put a brave face on things, he must be as disappointed as we are. None of our key targets were secured, Colback left despite efforts to keep him, Wickham's (who he says is vital to his plans) status is still unresolved, and as time goes by we see more frequent links to poorer quality overseas recruits who all lack the Premier experience that was supposed to be central to the 'new' strategy. Rodwell apart, it has been very disappointing window, and while we are a little stronger in midfield than we were last year we are weaker up front without (why did we not move on from him a month ago?) Borini, and the defence, which was already poor, is now as weak as any in the league. Whether this is because Poyet did not identify enough quality targets, Congerton does not know how to negotiate with clubs and players to get them here, or Short has said he will only permit spending on players that won't come here, the result is the same- another summer of missed opportunities with many players who would have strengthened the squad already gone elsewhere, and no apparent strategy. Reminds us not to build up hopes where Sunderland are concerned, because staggering from crisis to crisis is all we have seen since the brief exhilaration of the Peter Reid years. One game in, not even lost yet, but hard not to feel the familiar gloom descending.

We fight to keep out of the relegation zone each season, how are we going to attract top quality players? And pay for them?
I think the players that have come in are good solid players that can fit straight into the team and will improve us.
Do you really want to keep on buying anyone from anywhere that happens to own a pair of boots.
We prob still need 7/8 new players to come in! But this will take time to bring in the right sort of player, possibly 2/3 more transfer windows.
We should be targeting more players about 23years old at the top clubs. Done there apprentership but not getting any game time. Safc has a lot to offer them a chance of regular football and a chance to shine. Look how well rose, welbeck and borini did with us

I agree with MrMakem about our transfer business so far.

I'm just concerned that we're already into the season without some key personnel in place and that we're so far down on numbers after all of those that left earlier in the summer.

Ed. do you think there's any truth in these rumours that seem to disappear almost as soon as they emerge? Vargas, Sinclair, Wellbeck etc for example is that just the press looking at players that could fill the void if Borini doesn't come? I'm not sure which is worse; the fact it's the press making it up or that we seem to be scouting around for anyone that can play where we need reinforcements but don't seem able to land any. Duarte, Richards, Dawson, van Dijk, Zouma, and that chap from Germany seems another example.

For what it is worth, I do no want Murray for Wickham!

{Ed024's Note - I think we will have made enquiries for the 3 players you mention but that doesn't mean we have firmed up the interest with an bid. Sounds like Vargas has been told by the Mrs that he has to be based in London. Cant see Man Utd listening to a bid for Welbeck unless they bring in another forward first. Sinclair looks like a possible option - but in my opinion he doesn't offer a lot more than we have- gives added depth to the squad but cant see him making a difference.

I'm not Whickam biggest fan - if he doesn't sign a new contract we must sell him. I agree thou that Murray is not the answer. At the minute we need to bring forwards in, not sell them.}

Agree with that ed we need to sell strikers when we have plenty strikers not scratch around and panic buy at the end of the transfer window!.as far as the Wickham scenario is concerned we need to be straight with him and ask whether he wants to wear the red and white shirt or play hard ball with the club!

Agree we should put all our energies into buying Wellbeck . I think he turned down Hull flat!

If Poyet wants to play Wickham and Fletcher together he should play 4-4-2 and not stick one on left wing. Man. U. tried it last season with Rooney out wide and it failed. If he wants to play 4-3-3 then he has to leave out either Wickham or Fletcher and as we don, t have a no. 10 other than perhaps Giacherinni who is injured put Ndiaye in midfield with Larsson right and Johnson left wings. I know fullbacks were injured by young lad in U21's is better option than Young who is better than Roberge at CH.

ITS A HUGE MESS. we have been linked to everyone who has kicked a ball. For the past 5+ seasons it has been the same. Spend all the transfer time trying to sign loans we had the previous season, and then more panic loan signings. We have developed the likes of welback, rose, Ki,borini (and many others) who have abandoned us after the loan period. We don't have a Sunderland team, but a collection of players filling time in. We have no youth system to develop talent. with crowds of 40K plus we can afford to be competitive and build a team with signed long term talent. not loans. But it needs a plan from the top. we will again be lucky to avoid relegation, and although I will be screaming for the team every week, we really don't deserve to be in the Premier League with this annual screw up.

Agree6 Disagree6

You're right, Sunderland have no team "vision", which if you think about it is pretty much reality due to how often we've changed managers & how they've all bought & sold players to play to their idea of team play.
As it stands how we've got players from several managers who all played very differently & until we can get stability and keep a manager for a few years till he gets the team together & gets his vision in place we always will have issues.
It's going to take time this is very true and if we can stay up without the drop worries for a few seasons & Poyet gets time to find the right players who play the right way for him, then we'll have a shot of moving up the league from where we end up year on year.
