Is talk at the moment

Agree4 Disagree2

Hope not- because Italian flops are no better than the British flops O'Neill favoured.

Slightly worried that Di Canio's tactics- assembling a squad with no Premier League experience and little experience in top class teams/divisions abroad leaves us in the same position as the newly promoted sides- and we know what happens to most of those. I would have preferred to see us at least start the season with a spine of Migs, O'Shea, Johnson and Fletcher and a couple of proven but younger/pacier premier performers- one in defence (Richards is worth as much to us as a goalscorer if he can play centre-half and bring some stability at the back) and one in midfield (we should have signed Nzonzi last summer, now James McCarthy looks best bet). Then let us experiment with young fullbacks and strikers by all means.
No qualms about losing the likes of Bardsley, Cattermole, McClean (a complete waste of space) or even Sess, who goes missing two games out of three, but we need a core of proven/experienced players around whom these exciting younger players can develop. We also need to sign a couple of established players to show we are serious about building a top tier side- otherwise we won't tempt the likes of Duncan and Orban and will end up with second rate foreigners replacing the second rate British players we have.
So time to get focused and buy two players who will make sure we stay in the division, then go wheeler-dealing.

Agree7 Disagree2

This is a familar comment on here and I agree we need a mix of foreign and british players for the Premier league we had few freign talent here last season now looks as if we are going the other way!

Agree3 Disagree0

It not Di Canio buying its Di Fanti and Nzonzi didn't even shine in a stoke team. We need a squad and he seems to be aiming at a young squad atm which is exactly what we need. Building for the future. and then maybe some 'big signings' will come later to calm the impatient fans who think it can be done in a day.

Some sites are suggesting that Di Fanti is in brazil at the confederations cup talking with Hernandez's agent ahead of his proposed move to SAFC. It also suggests that he is in talks with another player in brazil but it does not say who.

Hope his not one of those agents that have been raided in italy

any truth In the rumour that we have matched juventus bid for Benjamin mendy ed can't see it coming off like but would be a good signing for lb {Ed024's Note - No i think not}

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Well ed it looks like mendy could be on his way here with his club stating they are in talks with a premiership club and it looks like its us or Cardiff would be disappointed to lose out to Cardiff mate

Agree1 Disagree1

Cardiff is welsh so it's all fine we will get him

looks like the door is open for sess according to sky they are claiming he is free to leave for the right price hope its not true he's 1 of our top players and by the sound off it he's willing to stay here not sure what to make off this story any1 heard out?--ed?

Believable6 Unbelievable4

Sess was not happy all last season, you could see it, it stood out a mile. Let him go, he obviously thinks the grass is greener elsewhere. We will survive without him.

Agree3 Disagree4

It frustrates me when fans have a good riddance attitude to players who want a new challenge. If anything its di canio who wants sessegnon out, not that that's a problem because he just wants to do things a bit different but as long as players give there all when they play for us I don't begrudge players moving. apart from that person darren bent. Mignolet, sessegnon should go with our thanks just like henderson. I felt the fans treated henderson like crap at times when he was here so we can't have it both ways. Sessegnon although inconsistent worked very hard for the team.

Agree8 Disagree0

Yeah agree totally, only thing with mingolet is unless he becomes number one why move, smells like agents at work £££££, hopefully not.

Agree6 Disagree0

Henderson. Nice lad, local, saw a pass, couldn't tackle, great business.

Ed anything on the protracted MIGS transfer?. what's the delay?. do you think incoming transfers ie Duncan Rose etc are reliant on the Migs deal and possibly Sess and Catts aswell going through then well see more incoming transfers? {Ed024's Note - Migs is on holiday- could be as easy as that.}

Just a post in regards to signings I see a lot of people saying we need some big money top signings. You will be disapointed sunderlands new structure is to buy players like Hernandez, Duncan etc for under 10mil. They then develop these players into the top class signing. Then when man city etc come calling we make 10-20mil on the player. It's not a quick fix but over the coming seasons we will always have top class players coming through the club untill they are at peak value then we sell them and the next young player takes there place. Don't expect top Players for 20+mil ever been bought by SAFC {Ed024's Note - I don't think many fans expect £20M signings}

Believable7 Unbelievable6

Agree with getting these young lads into the club and it is the only way to compete with your Chelsea man utd/city but we need to keep hold of them if we want to end up challenging for the top 6 no use being a feeder club

Agree4 Disagree5

That's the problem though football is a business now. And with so much money in the game now you can make a lot of money so I can see us been a mid table feeder club that makes a profit. Only way we will have a good season is if a few of the young players have a fab season and then we sell them.

Agree2 Disagree1

Challenging for top 6? I'm sorry but sunderland's squad only just makes a mid table team, you might not get any of these duncans or hernandez's, wouldn't they want to fulfil their potential at a bigger club who are in europe? You have no chance on insigne, players like that.
Roberge-26yrs old experienced, but not a top signing.
Diakite-26yrs old experienced decent defender, but gets injured a lot, not a top signing.
Cabral-One for the future, that's if you train him to be. Not a top signing.
Ba-Not even a regular for a ligue 2 team, does have potential but again not a top signing.

Agree5 Disagree5

Le Harve's academy is amazing and only bring in players with top potential so he is a good signing jealous GE0RDI3

Agree3 Disagree4

Daft lad i'm not saying we are a side who can challenge for the top 6 at the moment what i'm saying is if that's where we want to be then we need to keep hold of the young lads we bring through and not become a feeder club, as for top 6 you only have to look at what everton have achieved with an above average team and what the skunks did last year with the worst team ever to get in the top 6 so in the not to near future I hope that the lads we bring through have the desire and potential to take us to that level.

Agree2 Disagree3

I do think we will get Hernandez and Duncan and I think they will play for us 2-3 seasons. Then when they are even better than they are now and 25 and 21 years old they will be sold for a big profit. They will become top players and then they will be sold. A player like Duncan who has played at SAFC for 3 seasons against teams like Manchester United will be worth a lot more and still only 21.

Agree2 Disagree3

All of the above were free! So what's your point? We may get Duncan then sell him on for a good profit after a couple of years. It makes sense to sign young talent that isn't the finished product the sell them on. It's called a business model.

Agree4 Disagree3

So you are happy going to games every season and not challenge for anything. just happy with the odd cup run. I have always had that dream and would like it to come true one day to follow sunderland in Europe and although I went to the home games after 73 I was to young to go away. its the only thing I am envious of the mags is when I hear my Newcastle mates bragging about where they have been in Europe. in ellis short I hope we have a chairman who has the same dream and he will keep the players who make the break through i'm sure he doesn't need the pennies

Agree2 Disagree2

Inter milan buy young players and then move them on for big fees and the inter scout picked them in the first place and now we have him but yes we will be a feeder club but at least we will have some good players for a while we just cannot compete with the big boys

Agree1 Disagree1

What's wrong with being a feeder club? Within reason their is nothing wrong with it.

ie if your a small club getting your players tapped up and stolen from you fair enough that's a problem but I don't think that is us.

We will be more like Ajax for example, developing quality young players, getting good service from them, competing in the league and Europe, still being competative and a good team but everyone has a price attitude and selling them on for a profit but replacing them with good new young players.

The good thing about this is, younger players are hungry, full of energy and enthusiasm, they want to impress and improve, be successful and with that the team and club has those things. We also get to see some quality players who develop into stars.

Its better than what we have done in the past, signing older players using us as a retirement home and seeing out there careers, with no sell on fee and big wages and not delivering on the pitch.

Agree1 Disagree2

Ed am I wrong to be ambitious I can't believe some people are happy with us bringing in young lads getting them to impress and sell them on for the profit. what's the point of ellis short doing all this work for the club he doesn't need the money he has an estimated wealth of over 2 bill in disposable cash and still has a 50% stake in loan star which the last time I checked was worth an estimated 61 bill and is also interested in expanding into the European market where there is a possible market of 1 trillion pound. also people saying we can't compete with the bigger clubs i'm one who actually thinks if you could put us and Newcastle near the top of the league every season both clubs would have no problem filling stadiums that could hold 70 80k plus. I have also said on here before if teams like arsenal spurs Chelsea Liverpool man city had a history like us and Newcastle have had over the last 40 t 60 year they would be no bigger than your wba and Norwich's.

Agree0 Disagree0

Eredivisie is a completely different league to the prem. Ajax are already a big and successful club so it is easier for them and have a much better youth academy. In the prem you will become more of a mid table team MAX.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ive actually seen the youth set up at ajax and it is 2nd to none very impressive with the managers /coach taking time to work with the young lads. but when was the last time a dutch team did anything in Europe.

Hi Ed, Anything happening with Hernandez rumour, will his price have gone up since he scored 4 last night, are we defo interested or is it paper talk crap {Ed024's Note -don't think his price will be affected by 1 game - Sunderlands interest does appear to be genuine}

Sunderland are close to signing Alitdore, Vydra and Hernandez along with zoet and lastly Duncan. Cattermole looks like he is off to hull with Bardsley. Sessegnon has been told he can leave with 8mil the asking price.

Believable6 Unbelievable8

Duncan is not signing for you lot.

Give yer head a shake man!

He said he was flattered by interest, which was his dismissive way of saying thanks by no thanks. *Pat on the head to go with it*

I smell something it smells like a skunk
