Abel Hernandez turned down a move to Benfica today apparently stating he wants a move to a different move. Is he still a possibility?

Believable4 Unbelievable7

Meant to say "move to a different league".

Agree4 Disagree0

He wants Newcastle

Agree3 Disagree6

One Italian website claiming he's off to Hull! Same website says Athletico Madrid now joining Milan in the chase for Borini.

So Sad that Hull can attract a player like Hernandez and we aren't in for him?

Agree2 Disagree2

{Ed024's Note - Hernandez spent season last season in Serie B, Hull prioritised Rhodes above him. So, although a promising talent, not one to lose sleep over. At £10M I'd put that deal in the panic buy category. We do need a forward but not Abel Hernandez.}

The club put all their eggs in one basket with Borini. If we don't get him then anyone who comes in between now and Monday will be a panic buy.

Agree1 Disagree3

{Ed024's Note - I think we need to forget about Borini....if he was coming, he'd be here.}

If Borini does come here either permanently or on loan it will be interesting the fans reaction to him after all the hassle!

Agree3 Disagree0

When Borini arrived last season it was on the premise that a successful season with Sunderland would undoubtedly lead him back into the Liverpool squad for the next season and no-one can deny he was successful at SAFC, HOWEVER Liverpool have moved on and he is as far away as ever from a regular first team place. With this in mind if he comes to Sunderland again will we see a moody so and so with a face like a smacked backside skulking around the Academy and Stadium and more importantly not putting the same amount of effort. Think of it another way. . . Chelsea, Roma, Swansea and Liverpool cannot all be wrong. I don't want the club to be "sloppy seconds" and we have seen enough players use us as a safe harbour without putting the effort in to last us all a lifetime.

According to the bookies: We're favorites for Sinclair and Kalou. 9/1 for WelBECK and 10/1 for Richards.

Believable7 Unbelievable5

Well we better hurry up as we need reinforcements as soon as possible. God only knows why we wait for the last week of the transfer window. When we end up with player nobody else wants and have to pay over the odds.

Agree3 Disagree4

We were odds on for Micah Richards a few weeks ago. At various points over the summer we've also been favourites to get Ashley Williams, Curtis Davies, Steven Caulker, Jordan Mutch and Michael Dawson. Those didn't work out too well. Although to be fair we were odds on to get Rodwell, so I suppose one out of six isn't bad. Hopefully the twelfth player we're linked with will be Lionel Messi.

Whatever happens between now and the end of the transfer window the way we have dealt with some of the transfers this summer has been a shambles!

The offloading seems to have been reasonably well managed- with a couple more to go I hope- but retention and recruitment have both been poor. We lost most of the loans and out-of-contracts we wanted to keep- Alonso, Borini, Ki, Colback, possibly Bardsley- and while we did get a few early Bosmans (not any better than the players we lost) the key signings needed in defence, midfield and attack have not been made. While we are better organised than last year, Poyet did not get to develop his preferred style with the new players we hoped for, and though they are trying it is clear that some of our senior players are reaching the end of their Premier careers and do not move or think quickly enough to play the way he wants. But supporters expectations have obviously been depressed too as rumoured arrivals failed one after another to materialise, In fact the level of satisfaction many have shown at the very ordinary performance against a dreadful ManU demonstrate that many are already settling for the customary diet of crumbs.Unless a couple of important signings arrive before the weekend is over this will be another season of missed opportunities.

Agree with you Brandon unless Gus has a few suprises up his sleeve in the next few days questions have to be asked!. and well then have to manage with a threadbare squad till Janurary . we certainly don't want to be bottom of the table again this Christmas!

The players we let go were atrocious, colback was awful for 3 seasons,had half a good season, bardo at the best of time couldn't be arsed, craig gardner was awful, too slow for the prem and westwood was also a poor dodgy keeper, now we've replaced them with gomez, one of the best players wigan has had for a few seasons now, jones whos been a premier league starter at right back for the last 3 seasons, pantilmon who was eeeeasily better than joe hart but had to settle for 2nd fiddle most probably because of merchandising purposes, also brought in a player in rodwell who they were hailing as one of the best british youngsters to come through the ranks for yesrs. Jesus give the lads a chance for god sake I don't think we've done too bad in the market if you ask me!!

This comes from a VERY reliable source. The Borini saga stands like this. LFC still owe us £17MIL from the Henderson/Mignolet deals. We asked for Borini n scrap £14MIL off the debt LFC said no they want the cash up front as they can't balance their books by agreeing to our deal. My opinion SAFC don't have the cash available to pay the fee upfront plus leaving finances available for other potential transfers. MY OPINION ONLY

Believable4 Unbelievable5

I'm not doubting your source, it sounds like a perfectly reasonable thing for a club in negotiations to say. Whether or not it's true is another matter. It sounds like very 'creative' accounting on their behalf. If they needed our £14 million to balance their books they would have waited for the Borini deal to go through before spending another £16m on Balotelli. If the Borini deal collapses it would leave them £30m in the hole. Also, they're willing to let Borini go out on loan, which wouldn't bring in anywhere near £14m, so they clearly don't need the money now. Sounds more like they have a player we want so they're playing hard ball. I say call their bluff and either take him on loan or pull out altogether. At least we'll know whether they've been telling the truth or not. Assuming borini doesn't go to Milan in the meantime.

26 Aug 2014 18:44:47
This does not make any sense. How can LFC still have to pay 17m from both deals? So you are saying they have only give sunderland 7m so far for both players? What are we now a loan company offering PCP on all of our players.

As we are allowed only one loan per club can't sign both Coates and Borini from Liverpool! so its one or the other! i'd take Coates and sign Kaluo and forget about Borini whos heart won't be at Sunderland!

My mate in Manchester tells me there are strong rumours circulaiting that Sinclair will join on a season long loan. The rumour is due to the Borini deal finally being called off and should happen in the next 48 hours. Not sure he is the answer if it turns out to be correct.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan have made an offer to Liverpool to sign Fabio Borini. The Italian forward had looked set to join Sunderland earlier in the summer after spending time at the club last season, but the transfer has dragged on and it now seems there is a chance he could head back to Serie A. Milan have also been linked today with a swoop for Chelsea forward Fernando

Believable1 Unbelievable2

I have heard the same we should get our 14 million back and just let him go to wherever he wants not worth the money anyways, we can spend that on either a good player which will help us out very well or spread it out and go and get 2 or 3 decent players in

Rumour is we are close to getting Sebastian Coates (Liverpool defender + Uruguayan) on a season long loan which means Borini is not coming unless on a permanent deal because you can't have two loan deals from rivals. Also probably means (unless Borini has said he's not coming) that we are close to securing a move for a striker/winger.

Kalou? Welbeck? Anyone else?

Believable7 Unbelievable0

I'd take anyone from the Kalou, Welbeck, Borini category, don't really want an average player brought in after all of this mess of trying to get Borini in

Agree4 Disagree1

Yes, I'm guessing this means Borini isn't coming. He's been quoted as saying he would only consider a loan and I don't see Coates being bought with the risks over his knee so it's one or the other.

If Borini isn't coming I would like to see Welbeck but I can't see that happening, especially when he's said one of the reasons he's leaving MU is because he wants to play as an out and out striker and we can't offer that.

So who else? Kalou, I'm not convinced about him; I always thought he was an average player made to look good by those around him. Salah, maybe on loan? Sinclair, seems to have gone cold now. Not sure who else.

A £2m bid for Ben Arfa?

Just heard that Borini will be happier with another LOAN move to us rather than a permanent switch but then he has said to be interested in a permanent switch to AC Milan, well I would just withdraw from him like we should of a while ago and let him sit on the bench at Liverpool cause in all fairness out of his 10 goals he scored for us 5 of them were penalties so he is not exactly a guaranteed goal scorer for us that's why we should use that 14 million on someone else who will get us goals. I would happily take Kalou or Welbeck if rumours are true about them, not long left though!

Agree3 Disagree0

Great idea about Ben arfa. he would be a canny signing. I have no idea why the mags aren't playing him

Ed, do you know if the rumours about red bull investing some money into the club have heard about it
Even if we do buy messi and ronaldo we'll still be an average team (jokes) :)

Believable5 Unbelievable1

{Ed024's Note - I've not heard anything about Red Bull investing. Cant see Short giving up control of the Club - a major investor would want their man in control.}
