Ellis Short has lost confidence in Steve Bruce and is at loggerheads with Nial Quinn as Quinn wants Bruce to stay. No transfer deals will be done until this matter is resolved as Short is reluctant to release funds for players Bruce has targeted due to the probability Bruce will have his contract terminated. When this issue is resolved Ellis Sort is willing to lay out 15m, plus any incoming transfer monies to strengthen the squad. Unless an outgoing player brings in serious money it is highly unlikely any big fees will be paid for incoming players as the squad is depleted due to the loan players returning to their parent clubs, and unlikely to return. The emphasis is on building and maintaining a competitive premiership squad.

Sunderland have pulled out of a deal for Adam le fondre they had hoped to sell fringe players such a riveros angeleri Ferdinand ect before buying new players however due to lack of interest this has not happened .

reports in the press today that niall quinn will only let sunderland bring in free transfers and players on the cheap. he is doing this because he feels that due to poor attendance and the club only reciving 7mil for darren bent and the rest of the money coming in over a 4 year period, he cannot bring in expensive players.
