I think I'm gunna give these transfer rumours a rest for a few weeks, nothing is making sense
In the past few days Iv heard

•that we are signing another striker/that will not sign a striker and will stick with Altidore, Wickham and Fletcher

•That we will sign Alonso in the next few days/that we will sign him after pre season

•Fiorentina want Diakite part of the Alonso deal/that they only want money and no Diakite

•that we will sign 2 centre backs/that we will only get 1

•That we definitely want Rodwell/that we only showed interest and aren't too bothered

•That we will look to sign 2CM's/ we only want one

•That we are gunna get Borini/that we will look at other options

•Danny Graham is off to Middlesborough on Loan again/He will sign for Burnley

•that the owner is looking to sell the club and that's why there isn't any new faces coming in/That we are being busy behind the scenes and are doing a terrific job on keeping a lid on it

EVERYTHING HAS ANOTHER SIDE TO IT, THIS IS FU**ING BULLSH*T

Yeah but until any potential signing signs on the dotted line we can't get excited and don't have that player!. its worrying what's going on?

I see Wicham has rejected a contract extension! either he doesn't want to play for the club or under Gus Poyet or frugal Sunderland hasn't offered him much moent . another Coleback situation? what's going on at this club?

Look, it is still very early days so we should not panic just yet. I do however have some concerns.

GK's - Very happy with the two main ones we have now. In my opinion Costel will be come number one once he gets a chance.

Defence - Very concerned here. Yes Alonso is looking likely to sign and although I like his no nonsense approach he lacks pace so while a good addition there must be 'faster' options out there. If he does sign we still only have one back four as Diakite and Roberge must be leaving so we have no cover at all. Virgini is not the answer as I have previously stated so I think we need another 4 defenders. I am baffled how Crystal Palace can be close to signing Caulker, who they are taking away from QPR's reach, and we are not even linked with him! **Defence is my Major Area of Concern**

Midfield - This is not as bad as defence but still needs adddressing. LC / LB / SL can all pay the DCM poistion, AJ out wide either wing, EG and JG are AMC's so we lack another wide man and standard CM. We do however have two on our books, Cabral and Alfie, who I think could prove useful. The only issue here must be high wages or Gus does not see them capable of playing to his style. Whether it is these or not I think we need 2 x CM and 1 x Wide Man.

Strikers - Once we offload Scocco and Graham we have three main strikers. I would keep all of them personally. A fit Fletcher is 15 goals a season, Whickham now finding his feet could also be 15 a season and Jozy, with a bit confidence, could be 10 a season easily. What we lack is pace! An out and out speedy striker to run around these bug target men. I have no clue as to a potential target for this role but it is the one I would try to sign.

Overall then I think we need 1 x RB, 1 x LB, 2 x CB, 2 x CM, 1 x RW/LW, 1 x ST

Hopefully we have things going on behind the scenes to sign these but I expect clearing out the deadwood needs to be done first to free up wages / funds.

The only other concern is Gus wanted these players for pre season so the world cup has delayed this and we are lagging behind considerably now!

I expect not all will agree with this but this is where I stand and hopefully SAFC can justify my season ticket purchase for me and my son!

my I think you are VERY optimistic if you think well get 8 players in!. and again from the summer sales and players no other club is interested in!

i totally agree with gnsafc about the players we need but take a look at what southampton has done with the youth policy and giving them a chance to shine. surely we have some great young players ready to come thru?? when they do make sure their contract doesn't run down this time
