Brief hopes and excitement (Moyes, Cocu) swiftly dashed. Usual depressing options listed again (what was it any of Big Sam's sides actually won? McClaren's UK performances at Forest and Derby hardly inspiring, Dyche's Burnley were relegated weren't they?). Then we move onto the sort of preposterous barrel scraping that
resulted in Di Canio (Veh, Jol, for God's sake!)
When Derby County - a championship side with a stadium capacity of 33,000- seem to be a more attractive option than we are, that tells you how threadbare this squad is and how poor its performancs have been.
We need to bring in someone with the stature to bring a miserable cycle of underachievement to an end, overhaul a squad with many ageing players and some who should never be at a premiership club to begin with, gives good players sufficient confidence to come here and starts to repay the faith of the fans. So it is time for imagination and investment for the future, and ruthless culling of those who have failed to meet expectations on and off the field.We need someone like Thomas Tuchel, Frank de Boer, or even Michael Laudrup, to signal a change in ambitions and expectations.
