Have you seen what Poyet said? He said "The fans will be surprised" by one or two of our signings, maybe somebody they've kept so quiet we probably just said "No that transfer won't happen". Poyet also said that our finishing is the worst part of the team and that we need firepower and our attack with be bolstered in this window. Of course borini is first thought, yet many other strikers have been linked with us, and with Gus wanting Borini on the wing preferably, maybe there is an out and out striker coming in?

Anyone else casting a slightly envious eye at Newcastle's business this window? Not much Premiership experience in there but an exciting mix of youth and proven internationals.

Rodwell holding talks with sunderland today and should be signed within 24 hours! Hope this is true what a signing that would be if we keep him fit.

Not wanting to influence today's poll, I think Fletcher is crucial to our hopes next season. For me, a fit Fletcher will get you 15-20 goals, even in a poor side, so would make a huge difference.

Obviously there is a caveat there in the "fit" bit but fingers crossed. My bigger concern is whether, even if fit, he will get game time.

Wickham is probably after a contract "guaranteeing" him (as best he can get) first team football. Altidore has been earmarked an impact substitute we are led to believe (will that satisfy him?). What then of the boost to our goals for column Gus alluded to when discussing our "pending" new arrivals? Is that Borini, Hernandez, both or neither?

Whatever the pecking order, how many strikers are going to start? Maybe one plus a Borini-type player out wide? Would Fletcher be that one?

Who knows? Any thoughts?

For the money and the players, I would take Fletch over Borini. I might be wrong, but I don't think Borini is worth £14m. I know ones a striker and ones a winger and all that, but frankly I'm tired of hearing Borini's name. If he wants to keep Sterlings seat warm, then that's his choice. But spending anymore time (or money) on him to come to SoL is futile. It's time to move on. There are plenty of other ways to waste 14 million pounds.

I hope the two young CB, s mentioned in the Times today as Sunderland targets are quick and brave in the air. We give away too many goals at set pieces. Abel Hernandez would be an asset. But where is the Premier experience we were supposed to be targeting?

Nothing?!
No rumours? No banter? No predictions? No "definites"? Odd.
How many signings will we get today? Does Wickham count as a signing? Less than 2 weeks until the season starts. Less than 2 days until Gus' deadline. But still 4 signings to go.

Just thought I would throw this theory into the mix and see any other views.
Could it be that Poyet is cranking up the pressure on the board by announcing that there will be signings this week and if the board don't sanction the moves/contracts then it gives him a reason to walk citing the clubs reluctance to spend money? Discuss.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I suppose it's possible, but I think there are some coming. I did think that could've been his ploy last week when he demanded 4 signings. That way if they didn't come he could point out why he was leaving before he left. But it sounds like they're coming and he's staying, so all seems well for now.
