Hearing that we could still sign striker Jonas on a free transfer after he was released by Valencia. Apparently us and Sevilla are interested

So are QPR…££££££

A lot of clubs will be after a striker who is out of contract and the sad fact is that the London money clubs have a big avantage over us!

Another worry is the defence as if Oshea or Brown get injured we have very little quality back up!. we are so thin on the ground!

Agree17 Disagree10

I personally think the team is a lot stronger now, my one concern is getting Connor Whickhams contract renewed

We are very strong in midfield where we have a mass of players but weak in attack and defence . perhaps Gus is looking at some out of contract players from now till Janurary?.

There are rumours that Connor will not sign a contract and well sell him in Janurary . I hope that's not true!

Cant understand Gus dropping Fletcher!. he wasn't even on the bench!

Agree5 Disagree3

Cos he was terrible and didn't try?

Agree3 Disagree3

16 Sep 2014 18:52:22
Well You must have missed Fletchers stirring performance for Scotland against Germany in midweek ?. at least his contract isn't up and wants to stay at the club unlike his younger teammate !. ok drop him to the bench but not altogether !!

Agree4 Disagree1

You say that but how does he play for us, not great is he

Agree1 Disagree3

16 Sep 2014 23:24:53
Well I agree. we need strikers in form and at the moment we have 4 who are not performing and its a worry as we can't rely on the midfielders all the time !

I'm a tad annoyed why Borini wasted over six weeks of our time. Poyet said it not because he doesn't want to come then what is it? Does his missus not want to? She has just been on twitter saying we don't have a clue, do you think we will ever find out? I know he demanded high wages but we could match his Liverpool wages and he would play week in week out. *sigh*

{Ed024's Note - He must be praying for a lot of injuries and suspensions at Liverpool.}

I "heard" today that it was the agent because he wouldn't be getting any of the fee why he didn't Join SAFC and that's why the QPR deal came up resulting in Borini turning the move down on personal terms

Agree3 Disagree2

Well we will struggle again hope i'm wrong!!!

Gus.s "obsession" with Borini could cost us dear as I cannot see where the goals are coming from in this team?

Agree11 Disagree10

I got told his agent wanted £2 million

Agree4 Disagree3

02 Sep 2014 19:33:21
Good luck trying to get that £2millon after borini rots in the reserves

So the surprise is. . . What gus? Pleasantly surprised by a signing quote. Well then?

Believable5 Unbelievable1

02 Sep 2014 06:04:07
Transfer windows closed, disappointed again, what will gus say now, most importantly who's going to score goals, miracles don't happen twice

Agree3 Disagree3

It's frustrating when you see the amount of business clubs like Newcastle, Hull, Stoke, West Ham, QPR and even Crystal Palace and we still don't have the strength in depth in our squad to get us through the season if a couple if injuries occur. We need cover in all positions and it should be competative cover not someone who is willing to sit on the bench, players should be as good if not better than first team players!

Agree4 Disagree5

02 Sep 2014 11:05:53
Look at the players little Hull have signed now that is ambition!. that word has disappeared from our club!

Agree8 Disagree12

Hull signed a 31 year old centre half [we already have two of those], a Uruguayan who played less than one third of Southampton games last season [and started only three YES THREE Premier League games], another Uruguayan who may or may not be a success [DID SUNDERLAND NOT DO THE SAME] a central midfield player from West Ham [ we would have had the same argument if we Sunderland had signed Diame and West Ham Rodwell] and a Newcastle maverick [who personally I think is a good player but no better than Giaccherini]. Now we are hardly talking missing out on Messi, Khedira, Ronaldo and Neymar here are we. Or would you be celebrating the fact we blew a fortune on a moody Carlos Kickaball from Real Deportilona who would be leaving us by January. Get real here!!!

While I appreciate your sentiments, I don't think anyone would deny that Hull are significantly stronger than last season. And if only we had two 31 year old CBs- actually we have one who is 33 and another who will be 35 next month!
Overall the window was a little disappointing, though we did shed a lot of dead wood, which will be important in that it will increase options in future. At the same time, if we look at who we actually put on the pitch, I don't think Gomez, VA and a 'fit again' Fletcher are as good at present as Alonso, Ki and Borini- though VA at least should improve- so our strongest eleven is weaker than it was. It is hard to be excited about that, however realistic one is.

Agree2 Disagree3

With respect get your blinkers off and look at the bigger picture. You say the side is significantly weaker without Alonso, Ki and Borini. Alonso was nailed on until Fiorentina kept moving the goalposts regarding the transfer fee. What started at £4 millon then turned into £6. 5. Absoloutly no way is Alonso worth that fee [remember it is OUR money paying for these players]. Looking at Ki do you not agree the great escape happened AFTER he had dropped out of the side? As well as that the £10 million quoted by Swansea for his signature was unrealistic. For Borini there has been a million words written about him and in that respect I cannot add much to what has already been said however six goals in open play from thirty six PL and Capital One Cup games hardly had the blue chip clubs from England and Italy throwing themselves from parachutes into the SOL. So bearing in mind the £30 million in fees plus the combined wage bill would have meant there would have been little [if anything] left in the kitty for additions. So rather than being weaker all in all I feel the squad is STRONGER than the May 31st 2014 squad. One more through the door would have been nice but there are now a couple of places to bring the likes of Gooch and Agnew into the fold.

Well that's it then until Jan. Some good signings overall. Personally think we needed one more defender and a 'fast / nippy' striker but Rodwell and Alvarez are pretty good statement signings. And before people quote loan for Alvarez this one at last has a mandatory option to buy at the end of the loan period!

So let's stop any negativity and get behind the team!

Haway the lads!

Believable11 Unbelievable4

{Ed024's Note - Not sure the mandatory option was included in the final deal. It was talked about in those terms but the final announcement didn't include that detail. Could just be the way it was reported but it could mean its just a standard 1 year loan - details will come out soon.}

At last. someone talking a bit of sense.

We needed a forward and a good centre back in
It's their own fault, put all their eggs in the same basket with Borini and panicked when they finally realised he wasn't joining. about 6 hours ago

Believable2 Unbelievable1

02 Sep 2014 11:10:09
Cant understand why Gus didn't go for Ramirez? who went to Hull on loan . agree he panicked and look at Hull they lost Long and Bruce got quality replacements so quick why can't we do that? everything is so protracted and drawn out! leaving us with real problems up front!

Agree5 Disagree3

What is with the Steve Bruce love-in here? Is this not the man who was widely condemned when he was manager at Sunderland for blowing vast fortunes on average players?
Steve Bruce on deadline day is like a kid in a sweetshop with money to spend. Anything will do.

03 Sep 2014 18:07:00
you call Huddelstone diame jelavic hernandez Ramirez average players?. I disagree! . again time will tell whether any club has done well in transfers by results!

Agree3 Disagree3

I beg your pardon. I thought you were talking about who he signed on deadline day. Is Diame better than Rodwell? Huddlestone and Jelavic came in well before the previous two dealine days [albeit both good players who would have strengthened our side. Hernandez [UNKNOWN] and Ramirez [deceptively poor].

Whatever ones opinion we need strengthening and are weak in defence and attack as with injuries and suspensions well be caught short!
