News coming out of France that Valbuena could be on his way to Sunderland in a 5mil deal. Don't know how true is it but would happily take him. Little on the old side but could prove a key playmaker for a few seasons

Safclegends

1.) 26 Jan 2015 11:32:05
Well it seems if he is over 30 hell fit into our team fine lol there's plenty more there!. i see Spurs are rumoured to be interested in Danny Ings ?. i'd rather spend £5 million on him ! at least he's well below 30 !

2.) 26 Jan 2015 15:46:50
I Gather a few Premier clubs are after him. I just hope Gus would play him or other signings like Defoe in a 4-4-2 System as this 3-5-2 system isn't working !

3.) 28 Jan 2015 13:26:37
its been 2 games. fickle fans as usual poyet by far the best manager we have ever had. let's all hope fickle fans don't ruin it or we will have ian dowie as our next manager!

4.) 28 Jan 2015 16:04:50
Best manager we've ever had? hold on to the praise here, we've had two that have actually won cups. Tad bit better, for now he needs to figure his own team out & make do and get us some points on the board.

5.) 28 Jan 2015 16:38:58
jkingpin if you are happy watching the garbage football being churned out every week then you amaze me. poyets tactics are some of the most negative i have witnessed in my 40+ years of watching sunderland and in your eyes he is the best manager we have had then you don't know what your on about. i can guarantee this man will take us down and there won't be an automatic return neither he played his get out of jail card last season so he doesn't have one to play this year. as most sunderland fans over the years will know there was no better buzz than a game on a saturday wether home or away wether we won or lost now most fans i speak to dread the thought of match day knowing exactly what they are going to see. although i don't usually shout for mnagers to go this guy needs to be shown th door a. s. a. p

6.) 28 Jan 2015 16:40:47
Well like him or not he will have the chance to prove that in the next 4 home games against Burnley , Q. P. R, West Brom and Aston Villa ! and history has proves teams that don't win the games against the teams around them get relegated !

7.) 29 Jan 2015 13:47:10
Well according to reports we are the most popular Premiership team to be shown last on Match of the Day !. well if that doesn't prove that Gus Poyets style of one pass forward two back boring football isn't popular nothing will lol !

8.) 30 Jan 2015 11:39:33
We won't sign anyone else this month which is worrying. Teams around us are signing players and we are left doing nothing!

Gus is keen to stand by fletcher but he is so poor! We need more quality throughout the team

9.) 15 Feb 2015 16:52:08
The display never mind the result was appaling against Bradford and I've supported Gus Poyet but he can't defend his tactics or for him to have a go at the fans . its time to go Gus and for Short to act but who do we get to replace him ?

14 Jan 2015 00:53:51
Defoe is a Sunderland player in a swap with Alitdore. Saying he's getting 80k a week at SAFC. 3 and a half year deal glad he's here he can finish but come on he's 32 Sunderland we need some youth in the team

Safclegends

1.) Are you sure it's not Willem Defoe

2.) 14 Jan 2015 10:28:18
Much better options available for that kind of money IMO although Defoe is a lot better than what we have at present and offers something different.

3.) 14 Jan 2015 15:56:15
Agree with the Defoe age problem but still we are only paying a small fee and his pay. but we definatly need another YOUNG striker !. Danny Ings would do !. and would operate alongside Defoe and that would be a great partnership 1

09 Jan 2015 09:40:46
Heard we will be trying for loans this window unless poyet can raise his own fund by selling. If Altidore goes we will invest in a CB. Poyet is trying to get Joel Campbell on loan so he can push wickham into the middle. Other than that might see a bid for Ings if Alitdore goes. Don't expect many signings this window poyet will wait till the summer.

1.) 09 Jan 2015 17:10:12
Same old Sunderland lol Poyet paying the price for past managers hope it works out for Mr short and in a a few months time he's not thinking to him self wish I had spent in Jan

2.) 10 Jan 2015 21:37:36
Agree mr mackem we seen to be doing the poundstretcher approach this January .surely Short must know if he doesn't invest we are going to get relegated and that will be a terrible situation ! or is he bothered ? as the display today was unacceptable and we are now 1 point above a relegation place !

3.) Well if yesterdays performance was anything to go by i will drive to liverpool and bring borini back myself
we were shocking borini was by far better than anything we could throw at him that is possibly the worst display i have seen for a long time
there are no positives to take away from this and to cap it all alvarez who was unavailable due to illness was on the bench what's that all about wasted seat on the bench for me and gus bargain basement shopping rarely pays off

{Ed001's Note - if someone is sick, why not give a youth team player a chance? Sunderland must have a kid who could do better than Danny Graham?? My nan would be better than Danny Graham and she is in her 80s, got a plastic hip and needs a zimmer frame just to stand up!}

4.) 11 Jan 2015 16:17:27
Poyet's obsession with a style of football the players are not able to produce, complete lack of tactical or motivational skills and woeful performance in the transfer market have made an already poor squad even worse. A thoroughly miserable Christmas period yielded one point from what was a dire performance against an almost equally inept Villa, and we have now lost four times to those footballing giants Hull, in little more than a year, twice at home. Unless Poyet's miracle is an annual event, we look sunk this time.

5.) Ed i'm one for giving youth a chance that's why I backed Ronald koeman to get the job the last 3 times the job became available as I saw how much interest he shows in youth when he was coaching in Holland. but why the danny graham abuse the lad has had nothing but cameo appearance since he came bar the 3-0 win at sid james where he had a hand in every goal, the problem we have at the club lies within the roots of the club we have had too many managers who are influenced by players at the club when pdc tried to stop this the players got together and the rests history and before anyone replies about pdc i'm not saying he was the man for the job but some of the things he said about the club seems true. we now have a manager who has been saying for weeks the same crap yet he sticks with the players who have nearly taken us down the last 2 seasons and will surely do the job this season. he tries tactics which I don't like but 2 be truthful he doesn't have the players good enough. the final straw for me this season was the performance by the players and managers tactics in the loss to hull 1 man up front against a side who hadnt scored for nearly 400 mins if he carries on with these tactics we are down and the fans will turn on him and he will walk before the end of the season but it will be to late the damage is done

6.) 11 Jan 2015 23:57:51
Im not sure if Poyet knows what his best team is ? he's asking for more players fair enough but a lot of this squad is his players and choice so he has to take some responsibility for the clubs poor position ! Agree with the youth the likes of Mandron Agnew and Whatmore should have been giving a chance before now !

7.) 12 Jan 2015 11:44:56
The fact Poyets style of football isn't working surely must resinate to him?. playing strikers like wickam on the wing is so negative we need a 4-4-2 system with 2 strikers to win games . its so boring playing Poyets passing games with players who aren't good enough to use that system . back to basics Gus !

8.) 12 Jan 2015 11:46:32
I can't understand ED how Graham played so well at Swansea and so badly for us ?. perhaps its attitude ?

{Ed001's Note - was he really that good for Swansea? For me he still looked average, he was just getting plenty of chances because of their wingers always looking to hit it at him every chance they got. It was more a tactical thing that got the very best from his limited ability than him playing outstanding, in my opinion. Unless Poyet changes to wingers getting into crossing positions and hitting them in at every opportunity, Graham will always look like a lost little boy out there.

Sad thing is, every striker you have seems to be a big lump who would thrive from crosses into the box, but Poyet is persisting with a style that will only see them struggle. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the tactics per se, but they are not being suited to the players at his disposal, which is surely the point of tactics? You pick them to suit the players you have. If you want to change your tactics then you have to buy players to suit the way you want to play before you change them.}

9.) 12 Jan 2015 12:48:43
Lets be honest here, I am not one to abuse managers and players but Poyet now has to accept some blame.

The system he plays needs quality players and attackers with pace, and I mean real pace!

Against Hull and Liverpool, both teams that play with three CB's, we had one striker with almost no support as the other two 'Attackers' were tracking their attacking wing backs. Even if we won a header they picked up the second phase ball!!

I know he had to start again after the 0-8 at Southampton but he needs to adapt his formation to combat the opposition rather than stick with the same set up every game.

Most teams now press us high as they know we play from the back and we simply aren't good enough quality wise to get passed them.

I wonder why the likes of Cabral, Mavrias, Whatmore, Mandron, Agnew etc don't get a look in other than the bench. Can they be worse than what we are producing at the moment?

I must also say that Gomez had an absolute stinker on Saturday and should have been replaced at half time.

To conclude on a plus note Seb Larsson has improved massively this season, although still not a world beater.

10.) Poyets system is a good system and would work with a few additions to the side, need more quality all round!

Wickham will score goal up front!

Need at least two more wingers (with pace), another striker, two centre backs and a right back that can actually overlap and cross a ball.

Players will perform better when there is competition for places.

11.) 13 Jan 2015 01:12:11
Managers invariably play their signings irrespective of whether they play well or not and Gomez and Vergini are 2 good examples of this ! Gus must drop players who aren't performing !

Toby Alderwrireld has agreed to join SAFC on a season long loan with talks planned next summer for a permanent deal. Van Dijk has also agreed to join SAFC in a initial 6mill deal with add ons. Ricky Alverez is also to join on loan with a 8.5mil buy out next summer and finally Borini has agreed to join SAFC for 14mill. All four players are due to sign before Deadline day.

Safclegends

{Ed024's Note - Borini ??? Are you sure ?}

1.) 28 Aug 2014 17:56:28
Borini,I will have what you are drinking mate,in fact if if he signs, loan does not count then I will buy you a pint,I am not kidding either.

2.) That's it? Only 4 players? Why not go for 10 if we're so successful at negotiations all of sudden?

3.) It all sounded so promising until you said Borini

28 Aug 2014 00:18:05
Sunderland have loaned inter Milan midfielder Ricky Alverez the argentine attacking midfielder has signed a season loan deal today with a 8.5mil option to buy if Sunderland wish next year.

Safclegends

1.) Quite happy with this signing as I have seen him play a few times and he could be the answer to the lack of creativity we have in our team, rather take him now then wait on for Borini!

2.) 28 Aug 2014 11:44:32
Heard Monaco are interested in Alvarez hopefully well get him first!

Deadline day targets. Coates on loan Richards on a permanent deal Alverez on loan with an option to buy and been told fletcher might be gone tomorrow and another forward to come in. Confirmed Borini will not be joining SAFC in any deal. Some people think that poyet is trying to pull in some big names and with the Borini deal being dead we know he has the funds to buy quality.

I'm going to be positive I think the players that have come in are very good signings. Jones will be solid at RB Arnholt is a great young LB Gomez can do a good job in midfield and Rodwell will prove he's a star. Now for me we need 3 quality signings a CB a left sided player and a forward. For me Richards, Borini and welbeck would be ideal. Wickham can go for me last season was a flash in the pan in my eyes. I understand it takes time to get these players in but I'm sure if we can see this so can poyet so I'm going to trust him. Now if we don't get anyone in of note then I think it's more to do with the club not willing to spend the money which in itself is a problem if we don't finish mid table as we won't get the players we need next summer either. Hurry up Gus times running out.

Safclegends

1.) Completely agree
But I don't think it will be 3 signings (what Gus wants)
I think it will be 2
Centre back - could be anyone,
Winger/forward - Welbeck/Borini (hopefully)

2.) Welbeck will never come we are p***ing in the wind with that one. If man united sell it will be hernadez due to welbecks versatility. -However he did he somehow join we would be living the dream!

16 Aug 2014 23:23:35
It's come out that Pulis left because he wanted control of transfers and didn't want the players the board are trying to sign. Palace are of the verge of signing Wickham for 8 million and giving the player a big pay rise. Personally I'd snap their hand off we need a center back a attacking midfielder who can drive with the ball and a winger. Poyet has always stuck with a 4231 style game or 433 so fletcher or wickham can go in my eyes. If this extra money can fund better quality players I'm all for it. Richards would be nice at center back Borini for the left side and maybe a Dembele in midfield. Will be an interesting last two weeks to the window to see if we sign any more big names like Rodwell or sell any of our big hitters like Fletcher or Wickham with reports saying hull want fletcher aswell to replace long. Are we looking to offload both?

Poyet has said he expects more signings before nexts weeks first game vs west brom. Papers seem to think Sam Byram wants a move to Sunderland and not Southampton but SAFC will have to match his 6mil price tag. Man city's new kid on the block looks like a loan deal till January is in the bag and will travel up Monday after the community shield to sign for SAFC. He's a midfielder so That leaves Gus wanting a winger/forward and a defender. The Borini saga goes on and it's anyone's guess what will happen. Poyet has said he's in talks for other players instead of Borini incase a deal can't be done. Lastly Van Dijk is the only other heavily linked player so this could be the defender poyet wants. Only other deals will be getting wickham to sign a new deal and maby a few loans towards the end if the window as cover.

Safclegends

1.) I hope we get Van Dijk, very very good defender

If/when we get a new CB, I reckon he will replace Brown rather than O'Shea, people call him a terrible player due to his performances under PDC but I think he does okay now, good leader too and Gus has made him captain so I can't see him being taken out if the side. I was watching the Udinese game yesterday and Brown was dreadful, he gave the ball away all the time and failed to track back leaving O'Shea exposed a lot! And to be fair to O'Shea he dealt with their attackers well including Muriel etc (very good player), I can remember this happening a lot last season

Shocking talk of Torres coming to SAFC on loan!! Surly can't be true can it?

That's what scares me ed. Midfield looks ok not good not brilliant just ok. Sorry but just ok means we might just be ok and stay up. Needs huge investment in quality. Johnson goes missing cattermole offers nothing going forward. Just hope and pray Gomez shocks us all and Giaccerini is now settled in. The back four and forwards worrie me a lot.

30mil spend in 5 years is shocking for a top flight club. No wonder we have a paper thin squad with little quality. If short wonders why we are nearly relegated every season please look at that. Get 100mill out and get 5-6 quality players still would only amount to 26mil spend per season since 2009 which ain't that bad.
