We needed a forward and a good centre back in
It's their own fault, put all their eggs in the same basket with Borini and panicked when they finally realised he wasn't joining. about 6 hours ago

Mr.Makem

1.) 02 Sep 2014 11:10:09
Cant understand why Gus didn't go for Ramirez? who went to Hull on loan . agree he panicked and look at Hull they lost Long and Bruce got quality replacements so quick why can't we do that? everything is so protracted and drawn out! leaving us with real problems up front!

2.) What is with the Steve Bruce love-in here? Is this not the man who was widely condemned when he was manager at Sunderland for blowing vast fortunes on average players?
Steve Bruce on deadline day is like a kid in a sweetshop with money to spend. Anything will do.

3.) 03 Sep 2014 18:07:00
you call Huddelstone diame jelavic hernandez Ramirez average players?. I disagree! . again time will tell whether any club has done well in transfers by results!

4.) I beg your pardon. I thought you were talking about who he signed on deadline day. Is Diame better than Rodwell? Huddlestone and Jelavic came in well before the previous two dealine days [albeit both good players who would have strengthened our side. Hernandez [UNKNOWN] and Ramirez [deceptively poor].

5.) 04 Sep 2014 10:52:14
Whatever ones opinion we need strengthening and are weak in defence and attack as with injuries and suspensions well be caught short!

01 Sep 2014 20:39:08
We need a striker, ours aren't up to it
We need another centre back, from what Iv seen of Coates he is slow and not brilliant at defending

Getting rid of Roberge and Diakite is shooting ourselves in the foot we already had little cover at the back now we have even less!

Mr.Makem

{Ed024's Note - Coates isn't the quickest but he's very comfortable on the ball. Will fit into Poyets system really well. Diakite may as well have not been in the squad so I see this more of a straight swap Coates for Roberge.}

01 Sep 2014 18:22:36
We need a good centre back in and we need a forward in

Van Dijk, Alderweireld or anyone else we've been linked with seems dead and I haven't heard a striker linked since Kalou

Typical Sunderland

Mr.Makem

{Ed024's Note - Coates and Alverez, cant see anyone other than those two, coming in now. Will leave us light up front.}

1.) 01 Sep 2014 19:04:23
Nothing has been confirmed yet but can any true SAFC supporter tell me if Borini does sign for QPR you will support him if he appears at the SOL. The man isn't worthy of any recognition. While I, m on can anyone educate me in the matters of football, Colback nurtured from the age of 8 at the AOL goes to Newcastle plays two games in the domestic fixtures and is picked for England!!!?

2.) 01 Sep 2014 19:21:18
Signed Coates on loan , gobsmacked about Borini going to QPR for less money what on earth is going on there!? . hopefully well sign another striker before the deadline?

3.) 01 Sep 2014 19:51:33
Amazed Steve Bruce can attract players like Diame and Hernandez to a club like Hull? why can't we attract these players!

4.) Because of sunderland its self its a dump there's nothing for a millionaire in sunderland there's only so many nissans I man can buy

30 Aug 2014 23:12:51
Okay, this is just my opinion

We have 2 very short days to get at least 3 players in
I think we need a young'ish top quality centre back in, if we get 2, brilliant! Van Dijk, Alderweireld, Richards, any if them please

A central Midfielder or left sided forward, this is Alvarez I am guessing, who can play both positions, I would like both of Alvarez and Giaccherini in the team because these would be our most creative players, I would suggest putting Alvarez in the middle due to his greater physical presence and play Giacch out wide
I would also start Buckley, Johnson is to prone to completely disappearing in games

I don't understand why Gus is playing Wickham out of position, he is pretty much the reason we are still in this league, he played down the middle with service and scored goals, whereas Fletcher really doesn't look interested at all, that said I would very very much welcome an arrival of a top quality striker who can score +15 goals a season (looking at you JCFULWELL)

Any ways I trust Gus, even though this won't happen

Mr.Makem

{Ed024's Note - Hard to argue with Mr.M}

1.) 31 Aug 2014 00:30:08
Sound analysis of our current frailties. I can only assume that Fletcher is tremendous in training as I can't remember when he was worth his place in a match- I actually prefer Graham, at least he always tried- and playing Wickham out of position to accommodate Fletcher is misguided. Similarly, Johnson goes missing far too often, and though he is a much higher quality player when he is interested and things go his way, this does not happen often enough to make him an automatic selection. I think Giaccherini, Wickham and Buckley could make enough goals to keep us out of danger if we had an assured back four capable of keeping clean sheets, so for me the defenders are the bigger priority, though of course someone who is sharp in the box- we have not had anyone like that since Bent left- would be a huge bonus.

2.) Agree 100% Mr. Makem, especially regarding Wickham. And to give credit, you're not the only one saying he should be played in the middle. When he saved us last year, who supplied 2 of his assists? Giaccherini. Why Gus doesn't go back to this when Giaccherini is a left winger anyway makes no sense to me. Rodwell sand EG on the left and Larsson and Buckley on the left would work in my opinion.

3.) I would put wickham up front with little giacci behind with Johnson on the right and Alvarez on the left ( if he signs) and have catts and rodwell in midfield

4.) 31 Aug 2014 13:20:23
I agree with all that has been said with the exception of jacky (aka bamby on ice) on the left, he has shown he is far too slow and light weight for the wing, much better utilised down the middle as he genuinely can pick a pass.

24 Aug 2014 21:19:36
I reckon after today's performance (very good) we will finally fill in the gaps of the squad
I think we could get Borini, but if that fails Poyet will have a plan B in the shape of someone like Welbeck or Salah, a defender is needed, we are slow at the back and are prone to making mistakes
and we are having good talks with Kalou, he is a good player who can get in behind and has had a great season in France, he wants the move to happen apparently

Comon Gus, Lee, Short, clock's ticking

Poyet said Defoe will be the only signing

WHAT?!

We need a creative pacey player, what's the point of getting a goalscorer when you can't get the ball to him
When Defoe was alongside Lennon they were electric, I never rated Lennon once Defoe left but he's surely worth a punt to give us that extra pace and creativity

Mr.Makem

1.) Totally agree what's the point if no service come on poyet pace m8 needed

2.) I'm not sure how you think we'll be able to manage to pay them. Our wage bill was pretty much maxed before, now it's most certainly maxed. Until we can get rid of some of the players I doubt we'll be able to get anyone really without selling.

3.) The swap deal between Defoe and Jozy barely had any real difference in money between it
We've got Jozy off the wage books now and replaced him with Defoe, he is on about 10-15k more than Jozy but that isn't exactly a huge problem

The club will have money to spend, I'll be very very disappointed if we don't put any of it to use. It'll be the difference between us fighting for relegation or fighting for top 10

4.) 48k to 70-80k is still enough to screw us over. Until we get players like Cabral (shame really he has good credentials just is shockingly bad), Graham & whoever else they want rid of we are maxed out. It's not a case of "spend more" it's case of we "can't spend more" as the ffp rules screw us.

Look at how the big teams get around it, they buy adverts and sponser themselves with other companies that they are a part of to up their limits, we can't do that atm.

We've just had a string of managers who've panic bought (understandable considering results have to be NOW and not in a few seasons). and overspent on average players just to get them up here when really we should have took the long view and rebuilt from the ground up irregardless of relegation.

I would love to see Townsend, Lennon or salah come in. We need pace, the only attacker we have that can get in behind is Buckley but his end product is poor, I would even consider playing PVA further up to utilise his pace

I really like Johnson, great on the ball etc but he has no pace at all, I would consider playing him through the middle because he is out of the game too much on the wing and the best wingers have pace and he doesn't

There is so much wrong with sunderland

Gus, I honestly feel sorry for him, he has such a sh*t club to work with and try get his ideas across and he doesn't even get to choose specifically who he wants, he gets 2 or 3 names and he picks the one he can work with. Our players aren't adaptable, they only know one way to play and that lower league standard, look at Southampton, one or two seasons back they were average at best but their players are adaptable, they adapted to 2 great coaches, pochetinno and finished 8th, then Koeman who are now fighting for 3rd!! There is only one player who has always been fantastic, Tadic. The rest have been made great by their coaches and work ethic, if Gus was at Southampton it would be the same story, he knows football but the players don't. There's a reason our best player of the past few seasons has been the goalie because they don't need to adapt. The background staff is the biggest problem, they don't make good decisions, eg transfers, they constantly sack the manager. For Gus to truely have his influence he needs backing, he needs the players he wants for them to play his style otherwise we are completely fu*ked, I'm not a business man but god, they don't know how to run a football club. Yesterday proved it, worst Iv seen for a long time, no fight, no quality. That has probably drove a fair few SAFC fans to alcoholism. Yes Gus needs to take some responsibility, maybe a shift in formation, realise who is fuc*king sh*t and needs to be dropped indefinitely and play to our CURRENT strengths however little there may be

Now for the players

Goalie-SORTED
Centre backs, need a change for Brown, he's past it, always has a mistake in him but not an immediate concern
Fullbacks-one of only positions I'm content with (love PVA)
centre mids- love Catts and Larsson, only ones with fight in them, need a creator though - I DESPISE GOMEZ WITH A PASSION, he might as well play for the opposition, our current crop is suited to counter attacking, hence why we are so bad at home. Everytime we are in a good position or have a chance he completely fu*ks it all up by slowing everything right down and kills off any chance, our forwards have no pace or movement to suit Gomez's play and we lose the ball, he also can't tackle, problem as well when we need everyone to be able to defend
Wingers-Giacc, Alvarez, Johno, our most creative players, but no one will give them the opportunity to show this, there is also a lack off pace between them, as is in the whole team
Forwards-. you know. A mix between they can't do their job and that others don't give them chances

This January is vitally important
We need a creative pacey player to run in behing and A…GOD. DAMN. GOALSCORER

Gus knows this but he will not be backed

I don't know what to think

It's either we're going down without a sign of fight or that we are in a bad spell and will get better, but I'm not confident
Mannone has lost the plot, we have old centre backs that are awful, no cover at the back, a midfield with no fight and creation and forwards that…I'm not even gunna bother with
Poyet has let me down, the trip to Wembley and a rather lucky escape fueled by amazing commitment and heart we will never see again from our players are paper over the cracks of our terrible team which he and those behind the scenes have failed to change, I agree that the manager knows more than the fans but an exception has been well and truely made for us and our view on transfers, everything we said we needed did not happen and this season so far has proved us right
There is no use using stupid excuses like he didn't get the players or the amount he wanted, or that it was a one off, we needed to spend big like other teams who are flying high eg west ham, and now we are going into the free agent market; there's a reason they don't have clubs. If our players were free agents the majority would struggle to get a club that are descent.
I hope we are just in a bad period but they all need a good kick up the backside and switch on
Miracles will not happen twice, so let's not let it get to that stage again

There truly is nothing to be said

Mr.Makem

1.) Well, if you insist on playing a system that requires players with skills on the ball and positional awareness when you failed to bring in players with either, and you fail to strengthen the worst defence in the league, you can expect to struggle. But this is beyond struggling- embarrassing, shameful and the beginning of the end for Poyet.

2.) I agree with Brandon. I said the same about Di Canio - systems have to be adapted to the players you have. After saying that I am disappointed that there is not a FB or CH in Under 21's that could be included in the squad when there are injuries. I did not see today's game so cannot comment on individual performances but team cannot be changed much as we do not have the cover.

He's just trying to get a message to the board
"Bring me some quality players"

Looks as if it isn't working though

How will let him know

Go more attacking, and tell him to stop playing Gomez and tell the fullbacks to attack more

For me Rodwell has been a little poor, he hadn't played for City at all so maybe give him a little break

Agree that we need to change the striker situation, wether it's a kid or putting Johnson up top, honestly I think he's our biggest goal threat
But Gus will keep his faith with Wickham, he was happy with his performance and will continue to play

Mr.Makem

It's either Jozy or Wickham
Gus has said that Wickham is 1st choice but Jozy has scored and might set him on the right path

Gus needs to sort his and the players act out, it's disgraceful. They literally don't have a clue, the defence is forever shaky, the midfielders struggle to create and defend and the forwards…well, you know
He needs to give them a boot up the arse, get them doing intense training and make them play like they want to win and CHANGE THE FORMATION, it doesn't work

I say, 4-2-3-1. Attacking fullbacks, 2 holding midfielders, 3 creative midfielders and a striker that actually wants to score. I'm sure this formation is what brought success to the likes of Everton and Southampton. We have the players that can do it, it's just the style and mentality we've adopted

If we don't clean up our act, we are gunna get ripped off Swansea and get relegated THIS time

Mr.Makem
