i have been reading a lot of posts on different sites and local papers about our next managerial appointment and their seems to be a lot of people suggesting names for the next manager on us being already relegated. if we were in the same situation as last season with a handful of games to play and needing someone in like big sam to sort us out and save us I would totally agree. what we have to look at is the club have only played 8 games this time around and still have 30 games left to play so whoever gets the job they need to be here for 3 seasons at least so the decision by short needs to be important and right have his total backing that no one interferes in his position and has a say in whoever the club brings in. chelsea have had a nightmare start to the season and people are writing them off from winning the league but the club and fans have belief in their manager and team that by the end of the season they will be challenging for the title. you can't compare us to chelsea but what we need at the club is the same belief that with the right appointment of manager we can move up the table we have a good goalkeeper the best midfield we have had at the club for a long time the forwards are there who can score goals as they have shown so far this season not only by the ones they have scored but also by the chances we have created which might total more than what we created last season we have defenders who for some reason are having a nightmare compared to how they finnished the season so the positives are there all we need is the right man to come in and find the best tactics that suit our players which I think is the old 4 4 2 system at home and the 4 5 1 away. let's have some positive posts on here lads as i'm sure we will come good if the right man is given the job.

a few people having a go at short on here and although I can't understand what he is doing with the club if it wasnt for him we wouldn't be a premiership club in fact we would be an average championship club. short has put the club and money in the hands of people he thought who were right for the club but these individuals have let hin down badly. short will never take the reins at the club as he has a business worth billions to run so he needs to scour the market and get the right man in to run the club someone who can work alongside the next manager and have them make joint decisions without any grievances as we gave seen with the last few managers we have had pdc said that when he was manager he asked congerton to bring in players with premiership experiance what did he get 13 players brought in by congerton and di fanti with no experiance between them then we had poyet who wanted and got bridcutt and buckley and when congerton had alderweild almost signed up poyet went behind his back and phoned gis agent and said he wasnt guaranteed first team football the rest is history with him having a good season at southampton on loan and spurs paying a large fee for him and then poyet spitting the dummy out and going above congerton straight ro short to stop the sale of clattermole to stoke. finally advocatt has come out and said that he was told he would have money to spend this summer and he got next to nothing and also stating that some of the signings we made he wouldn't have bought, the club is in a bad state at the moment but hopefully with dick gone and congerton also on his way the club can get sorted and what we need from whoever comes in to replace dick and congerton is unity and the ability to work together if short makes the wrong decisions this time I don't think we will be as lucky as the last 3 seasons and relegation will happen, my choice for manager is dyche a young man who did well to get burnley promoted and with no money to spend he did a good job in the premiership as burnley went down with dignity and although losing his main striker ings he has them sat in 3rd and he won't be far from taking them up again something we might have to do ourselves

1.) 05 Oct 2015 19:49:13
Mr Rowell you live in Burnley so that is why you are recommending Dyche.

I want a manager who I can understand what he saying.I could hardly understand Advocaat and I cannot understand Dyche who sounds like Marlon Brando in the Godfather

2.) 06 Oct 2015 00:15:46
Perhaps we need a Godfather to sort this mess out lol!

3.) 06 Oct 2015 04:11:29
How about a fairy godmother.

4.) 06 Oct 2015 12:16:39
doberman we have had keane and oneill pdc and poyet before advocat all speak broken english, we can get someone in who needs an interpretor and it wouldn't bother me as long as the club is run properly and he is strong enough to pick the players wether its from the team who played well in the game on saturday or gives the young players a chance let's hope short makes the right decision whoever it is and its not someone like big sam. as for a fairy godmother bobby didn't your mam tell you they are only fantasy which I sometime think some of our fans live in.

28 Sep 2015 19:55:52
team for saturday against west ham pantillimon, J Robson, T Robson, Agnew, Ledger, Brady, Mavrias, Smith, Mandron, Gooch, Watmore. surely dick can see the clowns he has been picking don't want to play for him so either he gives these kids the chance or he will go the same way as bruce di canio and poyet.

one gary rowell

1.) 28 Sep 2015 21:04:42
Excellent team One Gary Rowell! agree not playing the kids could be DAs downfall!1

2.) 28 Sep 2015 21:05:38
Heard Rumour that if we get beat against West Ham hell be gone!. BUT where does that leave us??

3.) 28 Sep 2015 23:46:50
Watmore scored again so thatll mean he won't play against West Ham??

4.) 30 Sep 2015 08:39:11
Thats a winning team gary but we all know it won't happen. How about this team against west ham.

Pants
Yedlin
Larson/T robson
Cats
Rodwell
Oshea
Mvila
Watmore
Lens
Toivenan
Defoe

Subs
Mannone
Johnson
Kaboule
Jones
Fletcher
Gomes
Gooch

5.) 30 Sep 2015 11:10:49
No Borini?

6.) 01 Oct 2015 12:33:18
Yes borini gets in. Instead of defoe. How did I forget him.

02 Aug 2015 08:16:00
heard that fletcher is heading to qpr and as usual people will link us with austin but some of the papers are linking us with fer could there be a straight swap deal in the pipeline would hope so but I do worry about a centre forward but the way dick plays I think he looks to midfield players who can score goals and cover back as well

one gary rowell

1.) 02 Aug 2015 11:32:19
fer is reported as a loan deal

23 Jul 2015 18:15:11
i think we definately need a few new signings to come into the club especially a decent centre forward who would look like scoring double figures but I would also like to see the following players if they are still at the club at the start of the season have a trouble free one as they would be like having new faces rodwell jones giac and buckley all seemed to have a dissapointing season due to niggling injuries

one gary rowell

1.) 25 Jul 2015 21:41:17
Apparently Swansea are set to bid £ 4 million for fletch which for me is way to little . we need to get £6-7 million for him. we don't need a fire sale!

2.) 26 Jul 2015 08:13:09
You also have to remember fletchers wages are a huge sticking point with any club due to them being stupidly high. That'll be offset in any bid we receive sadly.

3.) 26 Jul 2015 19:19:10
Give away Buckley and Bridcutt not Fletcher!

4.) 27 Jul 2015 09:47:18
fletcher needs to go as well. wages are ridiculous. Buckley and bridcutt should be let go for any price to free up the wages.

5.) 27 Jul 2015 16:22:33
I'd keep Buckley but get rid of fletcher Bridcutt

6.) 27 Jul 2015 17:15:31
I'd get rid of all three to free up space in the squad for better players. Fletcher is terrible and should of gone at the start of last season. His goal scoring record is brutal and that is what we need a recognised goal scorer.

7.) 27 Jul 2015 22:19:08
We havnt mentioned Whickam in all this discussion! the truth is we havnt got a quality striker to help out Defoe! and need one FAST!

8.) 29 Jul 2015 10:16:16
lets not panic just yet about brid , buck and fletch. they are all good championship players and we will get some cash 4 them. maybe 7 mil total. fletch got injured and hasn't been the same player but in saying that he didn't get the service last season either. feed our strikers and the goals will come. CREATIVE MIDDLE MAN PLEASE

just a quick one as i'm off to my sons wedding now big sam has got the job can someone name me a player who has progressed through the youth rank under big sam at all the clubs he has managed

one gary rowell

1.) 10 Oct 2015 17:29:04
He didn't bring any youngsters through West Ham infact I got the impression youngsters were being realesed to keep the wage bill down.
Unless your youth team is playing lump it football they won't progress to the 1st team.
Now bfs will most likely keep the mackems up but it won't be pretty .

2.) 10 Oct 2015 22:32:28
Allerdyce not my first choice but one things for sure Oshea and his cronies have had their day. Big Sam will put an end to player power and root out all the poison that has festered in our great club for the last 6 or 7 years. Keane knew where the trouble was and is so passionate about his time here that he still makes comment about it now. By taking the job as the manager and not head coach Allerdyce is telling all who is in charge and I am sure that a number of our current squad are in for a shock.

21 Sep 2015 18:33:50
anyone have a clue at what is going on at our club having just read dicks press conference whatmore is not playing tomorrow night but what I find amazing is his claim on friday that whatmore wasnt in the squad for bournemouth due to illness yet played for the under 21's 24 hours later scoring a hat trick I can see this all to clear that we will lose one of our best young talent either in the next window or at the end of the season for a pittance we need a major overhaul of our club from top to bottom before we can look to be going forward

one gary rowell

1.) 22 Sep 2015 03:57:21
Spot on gary.

2.) 22 Sep 2015 23:20:03
Totally agree with you on Watmore!. Gary . yes he's raw and not the finished article but so is Gooch and Mandron but we need their enthusiasm ! i'm losing faith with Dick Avocatt now!

3.) 23 Sep 2015 07:12:18
Agree bob. Kids with potential like ours get first team action at other clubs. Our policy needs to change. But can't see it happening with dick there.

19 Sep 2015 18:48:31
my oh my what a sorry state we are in the back 4 is totally shite defoe is having a nightmare and the manager doesn't have a clue the only player to light up our season so far can't get on the bench today the sooner dick goes the better along with jones coates kaboul van arnholt defoe cattermole johnson gomez fletcher and graham as they are not premiership class. and they will definately take the club down let's start by giving the youth a chance against man city in the cup and Manchester United away because the players I have mentioned don't have a hope in hell of beating either of the manchester teams so if we are to lose these games let's see what we have in the youth and reserves it can't be any worse

one gary rowell

1.) 20 Sep 2015 00:08:08
Congerton needs to be got rid of he brought most of these players in! Agree bring the kids in!

01 Sep 2015 20:28:45
well i'm happy with the signings we have made. in the middle we have now added some better players than what we had last season it was always going to take lens and myvilla a few games to get used to the pace of the premiership toivenan looks a player who is going to be a good addition to the team once he gets fitter in borini we have sigend a player we know what he can do and will bring creativity to the team and if he links up with defoe I can see plenty of goals coming our way as for the lads at the back what I noticed in our first 2 games was the lack of movement in the middle of the park which forced kaboul and coates to play long balls out of defence which I think we will see less of as the season goes on and like we saw at villa lens and myvilla wanting more of the ball which helped them out. van arnholt has had a bad start to the season and the criticism given to him by the media didn't help the lads confidence but as most of us know the lad was outstanding for us last season so i'm hopeful he will regain his confidence and get back to being the player we saw last season. my only one concern is the form of cattermole his lacklustre performances in our opening games is a worry also him thinking that he can pass a ball when under pressure worries me time and time again his passes were either misplaced or put our defence under unecessary pressure forcing mistakes I would rather see him get back to what he does best and that is break up the oppositions attacks and do the normal and play his short passes to the lads in midfield I am confident that we will see a much improved sunderland over the next few weeks and we will climb away from the bottom of the league

1.) 02 Sep 2015 00:40:22
Be good to see The american in action supposed to have blistering pace . I remember seeing him play for the usa in the world cup and he was outstanding for them . don't like loans and would prefer to have got him on a permanent basis!

19 Aug 2015 22:00:41
well it shows what a little bit of fan power can do just look at the skunks up the road demonstration after demonstration against ashley and he has realised he needs to please the people who really matter the fans and they have spent the money we were reported to have for transfers do you think they have broken into our bank account and stolen our transfer kitty or what ed as they are putting our club to shame mate

one gary rowell

{Ed001's Note - they make huge profits and their players are not paid as highly as Sunderland's. If you could sort out the wage bill, then you would be in a much better position. It doesn't help that the manager changes every season, as each managers requires paying off.}

1.) 20 Aug 2015 13:30:16
Gary, fan power may indeed have had some effect at the Toon, but I think player power is effecting our club.Seemingly "senior players" requested the reinstatement of JOS back in the team at the meeting last sunday morning. It was obvious some players downed tools in the opening two matches which makes me believe player power is still alive and kicking at this club.I hope Dick can do what previous managers failed to do and that is, get them out of the club.

2.) 20 Aug 2015 13:45:12
Chris how do you expect DA to get them out the club when no one wants them? paying off their contracts would cost quite a bit so unfortunately they will see out their contracts. tbh if brown got an extra year this summer oshea might well get an extension when his runs out.

i couldn't agree anymore bob my sons friend works at the sol and he has been saying since his been their the people at the top are all business minded people are employed to make the club run well financially yet non of them have come from a football background and couldn't tell you the difference between a centre half and a centre forward so I fear until we get people in at the top with some idea on football we will be a club in limbo let's hope when short said he was going to sort the club out he starts at the top mate

agree 100% bob as his son would be a great player for us to sign and i'm sure bradley would cut it as a manager in the premiership, if its your post in the sunderland echo and the club do go down the big sam route which I am totally against as I don't like his style of play and can't see myself paying money to watch it I think your idea of him bringing kevin nolen in would be a good idea as he is the type of box to box leader we need on the pitch irrespective of his previous links to newcastle.

totally agree gerry its one of the reasons I didn't want sam as a manager same as advocaat they are managers who are known for not using youth and I fear deep down for the future of the clubs youth under a manager like sam a bit of a panic appointment by the club who had 2 weeks to discuss the position with other candidates but I think short is like a spoilt kid once he makes his mind up that's it, its either his way or no way and the toys will come out the pram but let's hope for the clubs sake he can at least get one appointment right as he has failed on his previous attempts mainly down to his lack of support for his managers against his players

1st of all I agree with most of your post but like we have been saying for a while the deadwood won't be easy to move on as the club gave them silly wages so a lot of clubs won't touch them with a barge pole so we will have to wait till their contracts run out. as for nolan yes he has seen his better days but he is the kind of player the club lacks and needs badly a leader on the field someone who isn't scared to give out orders on the pitch yes I would be wary of giving him a contract but i'm sure he realises himself he is getting on so a contract on pay as you play deal would be a good deal for him and the club

one gary rowell

{Ed002's Note - It is a pity there are so called supporters like you that refer to your club's players as deadwood. Perhaps Sunderland would do better if they got rid of "deadwood" so called supporters like you?}

chops, I totally agree we haven't been playing any style of football for the last three seasons and like I have said on previous posts going back to poyet as manager. poyet and dick have their own style of football they would like to have been able to play but we don't have the calibre of players to do that.

as for big sam, I wouldn't waste my money paying to watch what he serves up effective as it is you only have to look at the decent job he did at west ham yet the fans wanted him out due to his tactics which by the way might suit the rubbish we have at the moment. as for viera, chris I disagree. I bet you were one of the thousands of us who were over the moon with the appointment of roy keane, who I think had he been given the backing instead of the falling out with ellis short have done a good job for the club. but this is the same keane who deliberately set out to lame haaland and finished his career a lot worse than viera.

what I am saying is we need someone in charge who has the balls to drop players who are not good enough and to give the kids a chance as most football now a days is all about pace and the chance to run at people, which we have seen gooch and what more do to good effect.

I am a realistic and don't follow the club expecting a top ten finnish but what I do expect is passion and commitment which we are not getting last week in the cup against man city and the league game against Manchester United I didn't expect us to get anything from the game so if I was manager giving some of the young lads a start to see how good they actually are, because to be honest they can't have done any worse lads. sorry about the long post but I get passionate about the club I have followed for over 40 years and its annoying me to see the way the club is going

big sam you must be having a laugh his style of play or should I say his lack of a style of play makes him a complete none starter in my eyes. if we are going to change managers then viera would be the ideal candidate, someone with balls who will not only tell these players that are prancing around like over paid prima donna's that they are not good enough.

at least he will have the balls not to pick them. also he is doing a good job with the young lads at man city so hopefully if the papers are right and we do get him in as our new manager we might see some of the young lads given a chance they deserve.
