Hearing that we could still sign striker Jonas on a free transfer after he was released by Valencia. Apparently us and Sevilla are interested

Another worry is the defence as if Oshea or Brown get injured we have very little quality back up!. we are so thin on the ground!

We are very strong in midfield where we have a mass of players but weak in attack and defence . perhaps Gus is looking at some out of contract players from now till Janurary?.

Well You must have missed Fletchers stirring performance for Scotland against Germany in midweek ?. at least his contract isn't up and wants to stay at the club unlike his younger teammate !. ok drop him to the bench but not altogether !!

Well I agree. we need strikers in form and at the moment we have 4 who are not performing and its a worry as we can't rely on the midfielders all the time !

Presuming that Diakite, Roberge, Cabral, NDiaye, Karlsson, Graham and Scocco all leave permanently with Ba and Watmore going out on loan, I think we need around 8 more signings. We need a rb, 2 cb, a lb, 2 cm and 2 wingers/forwards.
Now considering Poyet wants his squad to be almost complete for pre season their must be a lot going on behind the scenes that they are keeping quiet

{Ed024's Note - most of those lads never played so don't really need replaced. I agree we need at least 1 CB, and an attacking midfield player to replace Borini - but i don't think there will be much more than that, we may get Alonso as well}

2.) Yes I know most of them were sent out on loan but if all of them do leave that will leave us with a squad of 16 and Poyet wants a squad of at least 23. So that's at least 7 new players coming in

5.) Come on ed. 3 players and you think that's all. we've no left back and only 2 ageing centre halves because god knows roberge and diakete are hopeless, so there's 2 just for the back four. We need a20 goal striker because the lot we have do not have 20 in them as a group!. we need a replacement for borini and somebody in the middle of the park who can actually pass a ball forward and back the play up. We are very static when all around us are picking up players that we should be pushing for. gomis, ince, caulker all linked or gone to teams I accept to be around us in the bottom half of the table. out has already gone Westwood dossena, cuellar, alonso, colback, Gardner. so 6 out replaced by three and none of the three signings are going to set the world alight. I don't see where we are going and we definitely not strengthening the squad. a new season same story struggle yet again I fear

Perhaps Gus is waiting for the deadwood to go before we buy as the wage bill must be high . but we need to buy soon to improve the squad BEFORE the friendlies to bed in the new recruits!

Costel Pantilimon has signed on a four year deal

Good signing in my opinion

1.) I like him but I don't know who will get 1st team

2.) Excellent signing! he's kept a lot of clean sheets last season when he's played. its good Congelton is looking at quality. a world away from de fanti last season!

3.) He has looked quite solid when given the opportunity, but we don't need a GK as much as we need fullbacks, or centrebacks, or some flair in midfield. I know there is still a long way to go, and of course we don't want a flurry of second rate recruits like last summer. But nor do we want to replicate the previous year, when O'Neill obsessed on the overpriced (and largely ineffective so far) Fletcher and fiddled while the likes of Nzonzi and Moses and Nzogbia and Diarra were snapped up by rivals.

4.) I Just hope Jordan Pickford gets a chance in the team at some stage!. hope he is looked at in pre season tours!

Poyet has said that he wants a 23 man squad with 3 keepers, 7 defenders, 6 centre mids, 4 wingers and 3 strikers.

The keepers are covered with Mannone and Pantilimon with Pickford being recalled if he's needed.

Our defence is currently Jones, Brown, Oshea and Van Aanholt. So Gus wants a solid CB, smeone who can play as either fullback and a player who can play at FB or CB. Also, I think that the game against Nacional gives us a big clue as to who Poyet wants to keep. And Roberge was part of that team whereas Diakite wasn't so he may be used as a 4th choice CB.

Our definite CMs are Cattermole, Bridcutt, Larsson and Gomez. So 2CMs are missing. If you go back to the Nacional match, both NDiaye and Ba featured, so Poyet might see these 2 as the players to fill these gaps so I wouldn't be too surprised if we don't sign any more CMs. Due to Cabral not featuring in the game, I don't think he is in Poyet's plans.

Onto wingers, Gus wants 2 for either side including one that can also play as a striker. So we currently have Johnson and Giaccherini (1 right and 1 left winger). We also have Mavrias-mainly a right winger-who was another who played against Nacional. Therefore Poyet is probably looking to sign just one left winger who can also play up front. This is why he is wanting Borini so badly as he knows he can play in both positions and do a good job in both.

Finally, it's the strikers. This is very simple as Poyet has said that he is keeping Fletcher, Altidore and Wickham and is selling Graham.

So we can expect us to sign up to another 4 or 5 players-a RB/LB, a RB/CB, a CB, maybe a CM and a LW/CF.

I would love that. Can't see Joel Campbell being available and I see borinis agent is talking about Fabio's burning desire to be the main man at Liverpool which clearly isn't going to happen. Wish it would just be cleared up by Gus or Rodgers what's happening with him next season instead of it dragging on.

Only two domestic season long loans are allowed. I would go for Zouma and possibly Campbel as strikers are more expensive and more difficult to obtain. This might then leave money available for al left back and a midfielder.

3.) We have been offered Valbuena for 8m, that is amazing, really can't understand why none of the big teams are in for him, if this is true we need to snap him up quickly!!

Here's who I think we should sign (based on players we've been linked with):

Speroni-free
Alonso-swap for diakite
Vergini-0.5m
Mancienne-1m
Caulker-7m
Mutch-6m
Banega-4m
Borini-10m
Gomis-free

I think Speroni will provide really stiff competition for Mannone. I thought Alonso played really well for us on loan last season. Vergini impressed in the last few games and can play rb or cb which is what gus likes. Mancienne is decent back up for the others and can also play fullback or in the centre. Caulker is very solid at the back and can also score a few goals a season. Mutch is a good midfielder who is creative and passionate and will get a few goals for us. Banega is a quality player who can pick out a great pass. We all know what Borini can do. And Gomis is a very good cf and I think what we aren't paying in a fee we should pay in wages.
